Although this year’s most memorable performances were delivered by women, there are many actors that deserve being recognised for the good job they’ve done in the year 2014. Here is BollySpice’s list of the top 10 actors who wowed us with their performances!
10. Varun Dawan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Main Tera Hero)
This year the actor of Student of the Year explored his most romantic side. With his loveable portrayal of the boy who has to overcome numerous obstacles to win his beloved’s heart, the actor also won many hearts among the audience with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. He had us wishing for more of David Dhawan’s style of cinema with Main Tera Hero when he fully immersed himself in the loud comedy genre with great ease. 2015 looks promising for the Varun, as he is busy with two interesting and different productions, the action film Badlapur,...

Powerful messages, stunning cinematography and authentic performances – 2014 was a good year for independent (indie) cinema. Here is a list of some of our favourites which are worth catching if you missed them.
Ilai (Leaf)
Director Rajiv Reddy’s film traced the journey of a young homeless girl in India, Chennai. Ilai was a good exploration of human emotion, survival and regeneration. The performances were outstanding and natural. Profoundly, the protagonist returns to the same place that she had started off at at the beginning of the film; however, this time she sees the world with different eyes. The film highlights how experiences impact the human soul. We saw this at the London Indian Film Festival and our reviewer wrote, “At times, the cinematography will have you spell bound. Artistic shots of the sun and the streets make this film a visual treat: for instance, a particular shot of the heat...

The second week of Jhalak Dikhala Jaa started off with a bang as Madhuri Dixit entered with a new international judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy from the Us dance reality show Dancing with the Stars. Maksim won this past season of the popular television show partnering Us Olympic Ice Dancing Gold Medalist Meryl Davis. This is the first time that Jhalak has had an international judge on the judging panel.
His first step? He danced with Madhuri to the song Chamak Challo from Ra One in Salsa style. It truly was a sizzling performance!
As always, the second week of the show, starts of the elimination process and this would be taking place on the Sunday episode.
First up to perform were Mouni & Punit Thakar who were safe from the eliminations. They danced on the song ‘Lahu Muh Lag Gaya’ from Ram Leela and their dance style was Rumba & Cuban Bolero – International Dance Form.

Bollywood’s famous Bhatt camp has made hugely successful remakes of Hollywood films (Ghulam, Murder and Raaz, to name a few) but have not always been generous in giving credit to the original source. However, they have made a clean break with past tradition in their latest offering CityLights. The fact that the film is a remake of the British thriller Metro Manila is mentioned right in the opening credits at least half a dozen times. And it’s a welcome irony that this fully credited desi copy of a much acclaimed original is one of the most authentic products from the Bhatt camp in a long time.
CityLights, produced by Mukesh Bhatt and directed by Hansal Mehta (Shahid), is a novel and refreshing take on crime in the maximum city that eschews many clichés in favor of a moving, original human drama.
The film’s central character is Deepak Singh...
