It’s almost time for the Fantasia Film Festival! North America’s premiere genre festival has become the place to be if you’re a horror aficionado, and as a proud Montrealer, I get a kick out of the fact that it all takes place in my home city. I’ve been attending the festival for many years, and I always end up seeing some incredible movies. Last year’s Fantasia featured the Canadian premiere of what’s probably the best horror movie of the last year or so – Late Night With The Devil, and this year’s program seems certain to be another winner, with Fantasia announcing the first wave of titles today.
Here are some of the highlights:

Annabelle! She's everyone's favorite hideous terror doll! The ugly porcelain figure has appeared in several "Conjuring" movies, first popping up in the original "The Conjuring" before starring in her own film series. And, just to make things extra scary, she's real. Sort of. The "real" Annabelle is actually a rather harmless-looking Raggedy Ann doll, but that wouldn't fly for the movies. So when it came time for Annabelle to make her big screen debut, she was redesigned into the grinning ghoul we all know and love/loathe. In honor of Annabelle and all her horrific mayhem, we've decided to go ahead and rank all of the "Annabelle" movies. For the sake of brevity, we'll only be counting the three films with "Annabelle" in the title, since those are officially her films. So let's get to it! And remember: if someone brings you home an ugly monster doll, just chuck that...

It's doubtful that when Lois Duncan published the slow-burn mystery "I Know What You Did Last Summer" for young adult readers, she predicted it would become the basis for a horror movie franchise over 20 years later. That, however, is precisely what happened — much to the chagrin of junior high English teachers everywhere. Written by the now legendary teen horror screenwriter Kevin Williamson, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was written years before it finally hit production, but after the massive success of "Scream" in 1996, producer Erik Feig knew the best course of action was getting another Williamson slasher into theaters.
Using Duncan's novel as a loose basis, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is about four friends named Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Ray, and Barry (Ryan Phillippe) who after partying on the Fourth of July after high school graduation, hit a person in a drunk driving accident.

What's Netflix thrown up for us this week? "Knights of the Zodiac" of course! What is that? Well, I'll be honest, I had no idea either. But I've taken a quick look-see and as it turns out, this Japanese fantasy film is proving pretty popular with Netflixers stateside.
A live-action adaptation of Masami Kurumada's manga, "Saint Seya," "Knights of the Zodiac" stars Japanese actor Mackenyu, alongside Madison Iseman and Nick Stahl. The film is also noteworthy for reuniting Sean Bean and Famke Janssen almost 30 years after they shared the screen in "GoldenEye." Co-produced by Toei and directed by "The Witcher" illustrator/producer Tomasz Tomek Bagiński, the film also features stunt and fight choreography from former Jackie Chan stunt team member and the man behind the action in Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," Andy Cheng.

From the moment The Haunted Mask hit TV screens one chilly October afternoon in 1995, Goosebumps fans the world over knew that a movie was only a matter of time.
Those were the days of Goosebumps bedding sets, green and purple wrist watches bathed in cobwebs and time spent begging parents for the $8.95 (plus $2 shipping and handling) so that one might join the hallowed, card-carrying ranks of the Official Goosebumps Fan Club. Bookmobiles everywhere overflowed with copies of Night of the Living Dummy II and The Barking Ghost and the silver screen was ripe for the kind of wicked playfulness and fiendish glee that only R.L. Stine could deliver.
But adolescent aficionados of the spooky and the strange never saw their dream of a 90s big screen Goosebumps adventure realized. Monster kids grew into horror loving adults before Slappy and his gang of sinister monstrosities escaped the pages of R.L.

American Horror Stories, a streaming series spin-off from FX’s long-running horror anthology series American Horror Story, began with a seven episode first season in 2021, and an eight episode second season followed in 2022. For the upcoming third season, the episode count has been shortened to just four – and all four episodes of American Horror Stories season 3 are set to drop on the Hulu streaming service on October 26th! With that date just three weeks away, a teaser trailer has arrived online to give a quick preview of the Halloween (or “Huluween”) event. You can watch it in the embed above.

I was fortunate to be in the audience late last week at San Diego Comic-Con when Chuck Russell surprised attendees of the "Bold Voices of Horror" panel with the first look at the trailer for his re-imagining of the 80's cult classic Witchboard! Having just wrapped filming weeks ago, this impressive trailer has me really excited for Chuck Russell's return to horror and you can see the trailer for yourself below:
"Emily (Madison Iseman) and her fiancé Christian (Aaron Dominguez) discover a mysterious Wiccan artifact, a pendulum board, as they prepare to open a bistro in New Orleans’ French Quarter. A darkness descends over Emily as she becomes obsessed with the board’s power of divination and ability to summon spirits. Desperate to help his fiancé, Christian seeks the advice of occult expert Alexander Babiaste (Jamie Campbell Bower). But Babiaste has secrets of his own, including his connection to a modern-day coven of witches.

Writer/director Kevin S. This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members’ selections can now not be greater than the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be five.
Unlike comedy and drama series, which simply appear on the ballot by name, the limited series submissions include plot descriptions and cast lists. Which of the shows listed below do you think will land in the final lineup on...

Plot: When a goddess of war reincarnates in the body of a young girl, street orphan Seiya discovers that he is destined to protect her and save the world. But only if he can face his own past and become a Knight of the Zodiac.
Review: Live-action adaptations of anime films and series have succeeded in Japan, but few have overcome the transition to Hollywood. For every Alita Battle Angel, there is a Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball Evolution, and Death Note. The cultural barrier aside, there has never been the right balance between ambition and execution. Sony’s Knights of the Zodiac is a valiant attempt to bring the Saint Seiya anime to life with a modest budget and recognizable actors just below the A-list. Anime has an uneven track record of being adapted in live-action outside of Japan. Asian filmmakers have made plenty of movie versions of beloved manga and anime series, but in Hollywood, there is a Ghost in the Shell for every Alita: Battle Angel. Thankfully, Sony has invested in an international cast for the live-action take on Saint Seiya with the clout of some familiar faces for the upcoming Knights of the Zodiac.
Knights of the Zodiac tells the story of a headstrong street orphan, Seiya, in search of his abducted sister who unwittingly taps into hidden powers, he discovers he might be the only person alive who can protect a reincarnated goddess, sent to watch over humanity. ‘American Horror Story’ fails to punch above its weight with a deep, raw idea that’s unfortunately stuck in a shallow episode and grave.
“For a minute. For a thousand years. Forever.”
Horror is full of fascinating figures who make enthralling arguments for why the dead are more valuable than the living and the persecution that frequently follows this philosophy. Titles like Re-Animator, Deadgirl, The Autopsy of Jane Done, and so many others uniquely examine life, death, and the blurred lines in between the two. American Horror Stories’ “Necro” attempts to also bring grief and romance into the equation with this failed experiment that falls short in some seriously tone deaf ways, but still manages to scratch the surface of some compelling ideas.

Season one of I Know What You Did Last Summer came to an end on Nov. 12, and whew, a lot went down. Not only did we finally figure out who the killer is - ahem, Margot (Brianne Tju) - but now Margot and Alison (Madison Iseman) are in a relationship?!? Excuse me, what? We did not see that one coming!

Allison should watch her back around Margot and Dylan. Her two BFFs looked mighty suspicious on I Know What You Did Last Summer Season 1 Episode 7.
Wai Huna is ready to move on after the recent chaos, but there's still a little matter of a killer in their midst. Could they have been wrong about Clara all this time?
"If Only Dogs Could Talk" teased the end of the mystery. However, the looming questions and recent attacks kept us on our toes for what the real answers could be.
Wai Huna descending into a furious mob was right up their ally. Look at how quickly they turned against Kelly on I Know What You Did Last Summer Season 1 Episode 3! Yet, there she is, accepted among them after the truth set her free.
Surprisingly, it was Courtney's murder that banded them together.

If you took the twin switch-up of The Parent Trap and added a dash of murder, you'd get Amazon Prime Video's TV adaptation of I Know What You Did Last Summer. We're, of course, referring to the show's leading lady, Madison Iseman, who portrayed twins Allison and Lennon in the pilot episode so convincingly that we forgot it was one actress. And, as Madison revealed to E! News in an exclusive chat, that was completely intentional. "We didn't want them to fall into stereotypical twin character norms," she explained. "We wanted them to feel like real people. We wanted them to be completely different. But we also wanted them to have similarities and really feel like...
