You might think that fewer shows would increase the chances of any given late-night series earning an Emmy nomination this year, but depending on how things shake out, that may not be the case.
There are currently two major categories where late-night shows compete at the Emmys: Outstanding Scripted Variety Series and Outstanding Talk Series.
While last year saw 12 shows submit in the Scripted Variety category, this year there will likely only be 5, with HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show and Random Acts of Flyness, Paramount+’s Inside Amy Schumer and Crank Yankers, Comedy Central’s Tooning Out the News and Showtime’s Ziwe no longer in production.
Similarly, last year saw 19 submissions in the Talk Series category. This year, there will likely be 13, even with the recent addition of category newcomers John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A.

For Kevin Kane, the endgame never wavered once he set a goal to move to New York in the early aughts to pursue a career in acting. He’ll tell you that luck seemed to always be on his side, as the actor from Philadelphia found work soon after his arrival to the Big Apple.
Kane was soon thrusted into the world of Dick Wolf Entertainment with small roles on Law & Order and Chicago P.D. This would eventually lead to his current recurring role as Detective Terry Bruno on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which aired its season 25 finale on May 16.
But early on, while studying acting at the William Esper Studio, Kane would formulate a lifelong bond and friendship with a fellow classmate named Amy Schumer. Together, they would not only hone their skills in drama and comedy, but also sharpen their writing, producing and whatever it would...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said that the FBI is investigating a possible hacking of his phone by someone impersonating Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“My phone is in the hands of the FBI now,” Graham said. “I got a message, I think, from Schumer, but it wasn’t from Schumer. The next thing you know, my phone’s… I don’t know what. Anything you can create, apparently, can be hacked.”
The Senate Sergeant At Arms, who manages cybersecurity for the chamber, delivered an advisory warning to Senate offices regarding the phishing scheme effort.
“The Sergeant At Arms is investigating a possible hack of Sen. Graham’s phone,” Taylor Reidy, a spokesperson for the South Carolina senator, stated.
Schumer is famous for using a flip phone and preferring calling over texting. Similar hacking attempts were reported on other Senate staff last week.

The entertainment industry is filled to the brim with talented female artists who continue to inspire their fellow women to achieve great things in their lives. However, the harsh truth is that it is not easy being a woman in the industry, and comedian Amy Schumer will certainly agree.
Amy Schumer in Trainwreck (2015)
Amy Schumer has never been one to hold back either views or her jokes which often get her into trouble with haters. She once recalled how she got death threats from people over a joke she made on actress Kirsten Dunst. Things got so bad that the Secret Service had to be involved in the debacle. Luckily, things soon cooled down after Amy Schumer revealed that the actress was in on the joke.

Variety held their annual Power of Women event Thursday, May 2 at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, in New York City. Honorees included Anitta, Mariska Hargitay, Shonda Rhimes, and Amy Schumer, along with presenters that included Glenn Close, Bela Bajaria, Bruna Marquezine, and Sascha Seinfeld.
IndieWire caught up with Francesca Scorsese, who’s featured as an “Up Next” talent in Variety’s issue, on the event’s red carpet, where she reflected on working with Luca Guadagnino in HBO’s 2020 limited series “We Are Who We Are.” “He’s the most amazing, sweetest guy. Very eccentric, but that’s the best part about him,” Scorsese said. “It was really cool because I got to experience another filmmaker. You know what I mean? I grew up being on my dad’s film sets and seeing his directing style and just like literally just like living in that world.”

Perhaps, like Jerry Seinfeld, you too have spent hours wondering: What’s the deal with Pop Tarts?! Is it a breakfast item or just undercover dessert? Was it Bob from Engineering? And why the frosting, people? Was there not enough sugar already in there already? I wanna know!

Amy Schumer was in the zone. This was in March, when she was filming on the street in Brooklyn for her upcoming movie “Kinda Pregnant,” a comedy about a woman who pretends to be knocked up for attention. In one take, Schumer emerged from a subway station while answering a phone call — and was interrupted by a stranger shouting at her from the sidewalk: “Fuck you, Amy Schumer! You’re a Zionist! You love genocide!”
Disruptions of the four-letter variety aren’t unusual in a raucous place like New York, though they’re usually less pointed. Schumer didn’t break character, refusing to stop working as the woman carried on. The actress finished the scene finally, packed up her stuff and went home to her husband and their 4-year-old son.
“It didn’t even raise my heart rate,” Schumer says over brunch at a cozy Brooklyn Heights tavern a couple days later.

The Senate has voted to dismiss the primary articles of impeachment leveled against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Senators voted to dismiss the charges against Mayorkas after just a few hours of contentious procedural discussion on the Senate floor, rebuking GOP efforts to make an immigration scapegoat of the secretary despite their own repeated obstruction of legislation aimed at quelling undocumented immigration at the southern border.
In a historic vote, the Senate voted 51-49 to dismiss the first article against Mayrokas, accusing him of “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law.

Amy Schumer is entirely on-brand in an interview, which is to say utterly without pretense. She’s free of makeup, her blonde hair tied up behind her head and wearing a T-shirt that reads “Ask Your Mom.” It’s how she likes to present to the world, whether it be in her career or personal lives (which often tend to intersect). She’s here on Zoom to talk about the 10-episode second season of her semi-autobiographical Hulu romantic dramedy “Life and Beth,” during which she fictionally, but pointedly, addresses two subjects close to her heart: her Judaism and her real-life husband’s autism spectrum disorder, or Asd. This kind of candor is simply what she does. “I’ve always been like this,” she explains. “I don’t really know why. I think I’ve just always had a low threshold for small talk and so I can’t really help it.

Major unions representing U.S. journalists, writers and other creative professionals are calling on Congress to make these workers’ needs a “core priority” in any upcoming artificial intelligence legislation.
Presidents of the Writers Guild of America East and West, The NewsGuild and the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians wrote to Sen. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and other unions representing film and TV writers and journalists sent a letter to Congress Thursday urging protections for their industries in any legislation regarding Artificial Intelligence.
Addressed to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the letter was co-signed by the NewsGuild-cwa, Writers Guild of America East (Wgae), Writers Guild of America West (Wgaw), and National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (Nabet-cwa).
“So far this year, our members have witnessed the impact of unregulated AI on their jobs,” the letter, obtained by Variety, states. “Major news media companies, including Gannett and G/O Media sites, deployed AI articles with fake bylines to replace the work of hardworking local and digital journalists and writers. Film and television writers won critical protections in their collective bargaining agreement, but their work continues to be used by AI developers without their consent.”
WGA was on strike from May 2-Sept.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized Donald Trump for saying that any Jewish person voting for Democrats “hates their religion.”
Trump was recently asked on a podcast hosted by his former White House aide Sebastian Gorka, America First with Sebastian Gorka Podcast, about the criticism from the Biden administration and Schumer of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I actually think they hate Israel,” he claimed. “I don’t think they hate him, I think they hate Israel. And the Democrat Party hates Israel.”
“Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion,” he added. “They hate everything about Israel, and they should be ashamed of themselves because Israel will be destroyed.”
Trump slammed Schumer, who recently condemned Netanyahu’s government and demanded new elections in a speech on the Senate floor about Israel’s war on Hamas and the subsequent humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Sharon Stone surprised fans in January when she revealed on Instagram that she tried and failed to pitch a “Barbie” movie in the 1990s, decades before Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie would make their own adaptation to the tune of $1.4 billion worldwide (the highest-grossing film of 2023) and eight Academy Award nominations. Stone said she got “laughed out of the studio” back then. She recently dropped some new info about her axed “Barbie” movie while visiting Dana Carvey and David Spade’s “Fly On The Wall” podcast.
“I went to the studio to try and make Barbie in the 1990s with a producer, a friend of mine, and I had the then-ceo of Mattel on my side. We got thrown out of the studio,” Stone recalled. “They were like, ‘Why would you take this American icon and try to destroy it? What is wrong with you?’ I got a lecture and an escort to the door.

“What he said is totally inappropriate. It’s inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there,” the Israeli prime minister said in an interview on CNN’s State of the Union that aired Sunday.
“That’s for the Israeli people to decide. I think it’s ridiculous.

Amy Schumer revealed on Friday she has been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, a condition caused by excessive cortisol. The news comes on the heels of Schumer’s response to fan comments that her face appeared puffier than normal.
“I feel reborn,” she told Jessica Yellin in the journalist’s News Not Noise newsletter. The actress went on to explain, “There are a few types of Cushing. Some that can be fatal, require brain surgery or removal of adrenal glands.”
Schumer said she was doing press for her Life & Beth season two, the Hulu series she created and stars in, while also undergoing extensive medical testing, “in Mri machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up.”

On Valent Day, Amy Schumer visited “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as part of her tour promoting her Hulu series “Life & Beth,” but many viewers and people online were more focused on her face. Schumer addressed the speculation about her health in an Instagram post the next day, and in an interview published by Jessica Yellin’s News Not Noise on Friday, she revealed she’s been diagnosed with exogenous Cushing syndrome — and she credited the online reactions in part for being why she got checked out.
Schumer told Yellin that she underwent hours-long Mri scans while promoting her show and “having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up.” The actress found out that she has a type of Cushing that “will just work itself out.”

With Life & Beth season two, Amy Schumer is no longer worried about spoilers. After all, this story is in the details.
The follow-up season to her semi-autobiographical Hulu dramedy, which launched all 10 episodes on Thursday, centers on the romantic relationship between Beth (Schumer) and John (played by Michael Cera), who — as the trailer revealed — get married early on in the new season. As the season progresses, Beth starts to notice certain behaviors in John and suggests that they check them out, together. Early in their marriage, John is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (Asd).
According to Schumer, talking about John’s diagnosis on the day that the new season launches will not ruin the viewing experience. “They really put everything in the trailer, which at first I was like, ‘Um, excuse me?'” recalls the creator, writer and director with a laugh. “And they were like, ‘Well, it will...

Comedian Amy Schumer addressed criticisms of her facial appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The View through an Instagram post on Thursday.
Schumer, who was promoting the second season of her self-created series, Life & Beth, acknowledged the concerns raised by some fans who believed her face looked swollen in the interviews. In her Instagram post, Schumer wrote, “Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face!”
She continued, “I’ve enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years. And you’re right it is puffier than normal right now.”
She candidly attributed the puffiness to her battle with endometriosis, an autoimmune disease that she encouraged all women to educate themselves about.
Highlighting the historical underrepresentation and limited research on women’s bodies, Schumer recommended the book All in Her Head by Elizabeth Comen as a resource for further understanding.

Joe Biden called out Donald Trump for working to scuttle a bill to address national security and the border, even though it was negotiated over months by both parties in the Senate.
Calling the it “the strongest border bill the country has ever seen,” Biden called on GOP lawmakers “to show some spine to do what they know to be right.”
“I’m calling on Congress to pass this bill so it gets to my desk immediately. But if the bill fails, I want to be absolutely clear about something: The American people are going to know what it failed.” He said that after initially calling for a border bill, Republicans reversed themselves after Trump made it clear he did not want the issue settled before the November election.
The $118 billion border and national security package includes money to beef up border security, as well as aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.
