Low budget sci-fi is an interesting sub genre. There’s not too much of it about and it’s hard to get right. With sci-fi people always think flying spaceships and futuristic-looking cities but with no money this is very hard to pull off. So often the best way to go is with clever, future set ideas that don’t need big visuals. Being an anthology movie, 5 Galaxies kind of covers all of these.
The films first segment shows a world that is over-populated and to sort out this problem is culling people on their 40th birthday. The short focuses on one person about to ‘celebrate’ that birthday. It is a more dialogue based segment...

Russian designer/director Vitaly Verlov is a relative newcomer to the genre scene. His 2011 short, Forever After about a couple on a road trip who encounter an alien phenomenon showed great promise and had some stellar FX.
Now a teaser has dropped for his with his latest, a time travel thriller starrring Eric Roberts titled Redux. It also stars Russell Bradley Fenton as a scientist trying to send a message through time.
Synopsis:
A scientist must send a warning message through time before he gets killed by an assault team.
It's not much, but the same attention to detail seems to be on display. I'm definitely interested to see the final short film which is reportedly around 10 minutes.
