Superstitious and cowardly, a criminal just watched Batman take down two of her armed and powerful comrades. Desperation drives her to take the one option left to her, the sole chance she has to escape the Batman’s wrath. Pointing a gun at the 10-month-old baby she and her colleagues kidnapped, the criminal shouts, “Back off, man! I’ll kill the kid.” When Batman does not respond, she yells louder, fearing that the Dark Knight doesn’t take her seriously. “Believe me man, I will! Believe me–”
Bearing the weapon he took from another criminal, Batman shoots the criminal, killing her instantly. He grabs the toddler before he can hit the ground and nestles the boy safely against his chest. “I believe you,” Batman intones.
It should come as no surprise that the above scene from The Dark Knight Returns means a lot to director Zack Snyder. After all, he...

The team from DC's latest animated series, My Adventures with Superman, confirmed that Lois Lane's race was swapped in the show from her comics counterpart.
There is a history of character changes, be it race or gender, in comic book adaptations, especially as fans continue to push for more diversity in the media. For example, Black actors like Michael B. Jordan and Navia Robinson have played originally-white characters like the Human Torch and Carrie Kelley, respectively.
Even more basic appearance changes are par for the course in comic book movies and television. Marvel Comics Daredevil is a redhead, whereas Charlie Cox is not, for instance.

The eponymous team of fledgling vigilantes in The CW’s Gotham Knights has gone through a turbulent ride so far since the very first episode. After the death of Gotham’s protector, Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, his adopted son, Turner Hayes, was indicted for the crime by the secretive crime society comprising the city’s elites, named the Court of Owls. Along with Turner, genius in their respective fields yet small-time crooks Cullen, Harper Row, and Duela were also taken into custody on suspicion of Bruce Wayne’s murder, and the group escaped imprisonment thanks to Carrie Kelley, aka Robin’s interference. Later, Turner’s best friend Stephanie Brown joined the team as well, and to clear their names and bring Bruce’s killers to justice, Turner and co. resorted to vigilantism. Da Harvey Dent, best friend of Bruce Wayne, initially pursued the group but changed his stance after becoming...

After Gotham Knights was canceled after one season, there were questions about whether the series was being shopped to other outlets.
Showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have now confirmed a push to find a new home, but a deal could not be reached.
As a result, fans will be forced to say goodbye to the show on June 27, when the final episode airs.

CW’s latest Batfamily-oriented teen drama “Gotham Knights” delivers yet another decent episode as the audience sees the titular team take its first step toward the making of a heroic lineup in the third episode of the series. In the previous episode, we saw Stephanie’s friend and possible love interest, Brody, taking the fall for her by confessing to the authorities that it was he who assisted a now-fugitive Turner Hayes. The conspiracy regarding the Court of Owls feels all-pervasive, as it has operated and controlled Gotham City from the shadows for centuries, and Turner finds out that the mysterious organization was also responsible for the generational murder of the Waynes. The episode also featured Talon, a ruthless assassin of the Court who almost ended Duela’s life, but fortunately, the team intervened, and somehow they managed to live another day. The episode ended showing Carrie Kelley, the Robin,...

Doug Bradley may be best known for playing Pinhead in the Hellraiser franchise, but now he will take on the villain who set one of DC’s greatest heroes on his path — Joe Chill. Doug Bradley will play the character in episode six of Gotham Knights on The CW. Cartwright will play Eunice Harmon. She will make her debut in Episode 4 and recur in Episode 7.
According to her character description, at first glance, Eunice Harmon may seem every bit the sweet old lady living out her twilight years in a nursing home. But that grandmotherly exterior masks a much darker side, one that harbors sinister secrets and has ties to an evil that has plagued Gotham for over a century.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Veronica as a part of Gotham Knights. Once Upon a Time stars Ethan Embry and Sunny Mabrey are set to recur in Season 1 of The CW‘s upcoming series Gotham Knights.

He may be Marvel’s Spider-Man, but Tom Holland has made it known in the past that he’d love to play Batman for DC. The British actor might not be a great fit for the Dark Knight, if we’re being honest, but he is a pretty perfect candidate to play one of the Robins. And, as it turns out, Holland could just end up being the Boy Wonder in the Dceu.
According to sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who told us that both a Green Lantern and Justice League Dark show were in the works for HBO Max, and that Viola Davis would return in The Suicide Squad – Warner Bros. is eyeing Holland – among other actors – to play Tim Drake. We don’t know exactly where in their plans Drake factors in, but it’d make sense if it’s somewhere in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hinted at the existence of a wider Bat-family through that Joker-desecrated Robin suit in the Batcave. Director Zack Snyder, who’s set to further his original vision with the release of his Justice League cut next year, has now revealed that he had plans to debut a new sidekick to the Dark Knight in future movies. And unsurprisingly given the filmmaker’s love of Frank Miller, it was Carrie Kelley.
Over on Vero, Snyder was recently asked whether he had any plans to bring Dick Grayson’s Robin, as has confirmed to be the Boy Wonder Joker killed, back at any point or if he’d stay dead. “Stay dead,” Snyder revealed, before revealing that the Robin legacy would’ve continued with a new recruit. “…till Carrie.”

AT&T, under constant attack by Time Warner shareholders because of the deterioration of Turner Broadcasting's CNN, now has the threat of their DC Comics brand being banned in China, unless a variant cover supporting writer Frank Miller's 48-page 'Black Label' one-shot, "The Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child", illustrated by Rafael Grampá, available December 11, 2019, be withdrawn from circulation:
In a cover for 'The Golden Child', 'Batwoman' is seen throwing a 'Molotov' cocktail in front of the words 'The Future Is Young'.
The depiction of the incendiary device is being linked to the violent tactics used by Hong Kong protesters, the black suit worn by the character alludes to protestor clothing and the title 'The Golden Child' references the color yellow, also a mark of the pro-democracy riots.

Frank Miller tells us why he keeps coming back to Batman and the Dark Knight universe, and plans for The Golden Child.
This article contains spoilers for The Dark Knight Returns and Dark Knight III: The Master Race.
Frank Miller is on a roll. The celebrated comics auteur is sometimes quiet, but never forgotten. It took 15 years for Miller to revisit his most famous work, The Dark Knight Returns, with a sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again. But in just the last few years, he's returned to the offbeat future of the DC Universe depicted in the Dark Knight world with increasing frequency, whether with Dark Knight III: The Master Race or Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade. He's also spent time building up the Man of Steel, a character who has also featured prominently in his Batman stories, on Superman: Year One.

Frank Miller’s new Batman one-shot comic book has been announced that he’s written called Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child. It will continue the story first told in his 1986 book The Dark Knight Returns and marks the fourth installment in the Batman series.
The Golden Child is set three years after The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race, and the “golden child” in question is young Jonathan Kent, the son of Superman and Wonder Woman. The comic will be illustrated by artist Rafael Grampá, and this is the synopsis that was officially released by DC for the 48-page comic:
“Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Carrie Kelley, and Lara Kent overcame the renegade priest Quar and his cult of Kandorian fanatics in their bid to convert humanity into worshipping them as gods. During this interim, Lara [the older sister of Jonathan Kent] has spent time learning about what it means to be human, while Carrie has...

Throughout the years, Batman has allowed for a variety of young folks to take up the mantle of Robin on the comic book side of things. Whether it be Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Carrie Kelley, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown or Damian Wayne, it goes without saying that each have a rabid fanbase to call their own.
Actually, most of those heroes I just named went on to adopt other personas such as Nightwing, Red Robin and Batgirl, but today’s discussion will center on Jason Todd, now known as the Red Hood.
Originally murdered by the Joker back in A Death in the Family during the 1980’s, the second lad to adopt the moniker of Robin was resurrected in the controversial, yet legendary, Under the Red Hood nearly twenty years later (time passes differently in comic book land). Throughout the years, Batman has given several young folks the opportunity to take up the mantle of Robin in the comics. Whether it be Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Carrie Kelley, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown or Damian Wayne, they all have supporters and a rabid fanbase backing them. If there’s one that folks have wanted to see up on the big screen perhaps more than any other, though, it’s Todd and more specifically, his persona of Red Hood.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Jason Todd was killed by the Joker back in A Death in the Family during the 1980s, before being resurrected in the controversial, yet seminal, Under the Red Hood nearly two decades later (time passes differently in comic book land). Usurping the Red Hood alias from the Clown Prince of Crime’s days predating his (more) flamboyant stage, Todd has since become one of DC’s most popular anti-heroes.

If you were to gather a dozen or so Batman fans in a room and ask them who their favorite Robin is, I very much doubt that you’ll come away with a unanimous response. I say that because, over the years, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Stephanie Brown and Carrie Kelley have each accrued their own rabid followings. And though most have since gone on to take up other superhero identities, none will soon forget their respective times as the Dark Knight’s apprentice.
When it comes to Jason Todd, though, I’m willing to make the bold statement that a fair amount of his fans were made well after his stint as the Boy Wonder. Having previously been murdered by the Joker and later resurrected, the volatile young man has since adopted the guise of the Red Hood, who’s often been regarded as one...

If anything, today may wind up going down as a day that contained some of the biggest revelations regarding Zack Snyder’s original vision for a shared DC on film universe. Like you, I’m still reeling after receiving confirmation that the Robin costume seen in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice did, in fact, belong to Dick Grayson.
On the one hand, I can understand the director’s motivation for going this route because, after all, the average moviegoer has no idea who Jason Todd is. However, if you were to tell them that Dick was beaten silly with a crowbar by the Joker, then they might express more shock.
But on the other, this creative decision is incredibly stupid because it could’ve eliminated the possibility of ever seeing Mr. Grayson adopt the Nightwing persona in a movie, something that’s incredibly overdue. Fortunately, the deceased Boy Wonder...

Though we as DC fans know that we can bet on seeing the likes of Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 2 in theaters over the course of the next two years, there’s really no concrete evidence supporting what lies beyond that. I mean, Birds of Prey will more than likely be the next on the docket, but it’s expected that only a fraction of the movies “announced” so far will make it to the finish line. That said, it’s probably a solid bet that priority projects such as The Batman and Suicide Squad 2 will be among those seeing the light of day.
Now, before we proceed, I ask that you take the following information with a grain of salt because it’s all being regarded at rumor at this point, but you may agree that each bit sounds quite plausible since they align with recent chatter we’ve been hearing.

Netflix will follow the teen-aged exploits of King Arthur’s Lady of the Lake character in Cursed.
Netflix is pulling a sword from a stone in its upcoming original series, Cursed. Based on King Arthur’s Lady of the Lake, the project comes from comic book writer/artist Frank Miller and Puss in Boots writer/producer Tom Wheeler. The 10-episode series is based on Miller and Wheeler's upcoming illustrated young adult book, Cursed.
Cursed put a twist on the King Arthur legend, told through the eyes of the Excalibur-bestowing enchantress, the Lady of the Lake. The character is depicted here as a teenager, named Nimue, with a mysterious gift, and the coming-of-age series showcases her path to destiny. According to the plot description (via Variety), after her mother dies, Nimue joins a young mercenary named Arthur, on his quest to find the magician Merlin and deliver an ancient sword.

Last week we learned that legendary comic book writer and artist Frank Miller would be developing an illustrated novel called Cursed, which is based on the King Arthur legend, Lady of the Lake. Well, Netflix has already picked up the rights to the book and they will be developing it as a 10-episode TV series.
Miller is working on the book with writer Thomas Wheeler (Lego: Ninjago Movie) and according to Deadline, the same creative team who are working on the book will also be working on the series simultaneously. Its said that they will actually get to explore the characters in more detail in the series than in the book. So... I guess I'll just wait for the series.

We've got our first look at the new Superman origin story coming from Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.
Frank Miller has signed an exclusive five-project deal with DC Comics. As of this writing, we know what two of them are. One is a young reader focused graphic novel focusing on Carrie Kelley, the young Robin that Miller introduced in the pages of Dark Knight Returns in 1986. The other is the previously announced Superman: Year One, a four issue prestige format limited series with John Romita, Jr. on art.
Here's the official synopsis:
Superman: Year One is a coming-of-age story for the future Man of Steel, featuring a young alien-boy just trying to find his place in a new world. Faced with the need to hide his heritage and powers in order to survive, Clark will find his humanity through the grounding of the Kent family and...

The ideas behind Batman The Dark Knight: The Master Race are huge in scope, touching on race, religion, society, etc. There’s a reason this collected book is called “Master Race” – to remind us, bluntly, of the themes in this third entry into Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight trilogy touches upon. It may seem heavy-handed to call this collection that – but it works to succinctly tell the audience what to expect from this story, as in a villain, Quar, who is a maniacal madman, hellbent on shaping the world in his twisted image – a la a myriad of dictators and war criminals – calling humans “ants”, chastising them for ruining the planet, calling for genocide on a global scale by zealots (more of...

If you’re reading this, there’s a very strong chance that you have some level of familiarity with Frank Miller’s immortal classic, The Dark Knight Returns (Dkr). Since its original publication in the mid-1980’s, it’s managed to change the way mainstream outlets view the comic book industry, been adapted to an animated feature, and has influenced countless other Batman comics – along with several of the live action films.
So, when the acclaimed author rolled out the sequel that was The Dark Knight Strikes Again! (DK2) back in 2001, expectations were understandably high. Unfortunately, it didn’t reach the bar that its predecessor did, but we’re happy to say that the threequel – Dark Knight III: The Master Race – has lived up to the legacy of the original, with the collected edition undergoing a slight re-titling of Batman: The Dark Knight: Master Race.

Although I found the previous issue to be less than stellar, it’s well-documented that I’ve been a strong advocate of Dark Knight III: The Master Race. This week, it’s forced to pass its true litmus test because the closing chapter will ultimately determine if it’s the stuff of legend (The Dark Knight Returns) or a complete farce (The Dark Knight Strikes Again!).
While we may need more time and perspective in order to properly determine if this entry in the series is indeed legendary, I will say that it’s a worthy successor to the original through and through, and that Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello have succeeded in crafting something that needs to adorn the shelves of all Batfans.
An undeniable strong suit of this book has been its ability to callback to Miller’s earlier works without seeming like a rehash.

Those who know me are well aware that I’ve greatly enjoyed Dark Knight III: The Master Race to this point. The fact that it’s redeemed the legacy established by Frank Miller’s immortal classic The Dark Knight Returns (Dkr) after what we’ll call an ill-received followup in The Dark Knight Strikes Again! (DK2) is highly commendable in its own right. But, I guess few overarching stories are without their flaws, which is why it pains me to say the penultimate installment in this definitive Batman tale is easily my least favorite of the bunch.
For those who’ve been following the series since it began in late 2015 (I know, the sporadic releases were definitely not a strong suit), you’re well aware that the wealth of the narrative has been devoted to Batman, Superman, Carrie Kelley (now Batgirl) and others being forced...

Since the series kicked off in late 2015, we’ve been treated to a new chapter every few months that sees Batman and his cohorts forced to deal with the threat of the invading Kandorians in what will assuredly be remembered as a definitive tale.
But, I guess no less would be expected from this threequel to Frank Miller’s immortal classic, The Dark Knight Returns. Featuring callbacks to said original along with broadening its scope to include various elements from the DC Universe at large just as The Dark Knight Strikes Again! did, Miller and Brian Azzarello have achieved a delicate balance that has consistently left me coming back for more.

Prime 1 Studios has released the first official photos and details of their Batman statue based on Mark Millar’s comic The Dark Knight Returns. This is probably the most badass statue I’ve seen of Batman! It stands at 33” tall and it is priced at $969. There are no details on when it will be available for order yet.
It will comes with two interchangeable heads, several hands that you can switch up, and it features as assorted arsenal of weapons. There’s also an exclusive version of the statue that will include an additional interchangeable head sculpt as well as an additional hand holding multiple Batarangs.

Given how much of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is based on the 1986 comic story The Dark Knight Returns, it made sense that its author, Frank Miller, attended the movie’s red carpet premiere this past weekend. When it comes to his work at DC Comics, Miller has cemented himself as one of the most popular Batman writers of all time. It’s a good thing, then, that Batman has a big future ahead him in the Dceu, and Miller hopes to see another character, Carrie Kelley, be a part of it.
