Christine Lahti has joined the cast of Sarah Gancher’s Russian Troll Farm: A Workplace Comedy, set to open Off-Broadway this winter.
The Oscar and Emmy winner will portray Lubja, a supervisor of a professional troll farm who hands down increasingly specific asks to her subordinates, in the office comedy-meets-political satire opening at off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre on Feb. 8. She will star alongside Haskell King, Renata Friedman, John Lavelle, and Hadi Tabbal in the play’s New York debut, directed by Tony winner Darko Tresnjak.
Set during the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, Russian Troll Farm: A Workplace Comedy explores what happens in a place where office romances abound and one employee who just wants to win a microwave mix with a concerted, collective daily effort to lie. Steve (Lavelle), Masha (Friedman), Nikolai (Tabbal), and Egor (King) are among the fictional employees of the Internet Research Agency, a real Russian...

Despite a valiant effort, The Brave TV show has been cancelled by NBC. In this instance, the 13-episode first season wasn't a sign of certain cancellation, as a shorter season aways the plan for this series. In November, after some early gains in the Nielsens, the Peacock Network was even touting the show's ratings, but they later dropped off and weren't strong enough to score a season two renewal. The Brave has lowered its battle flag. NBC today canceled the freshman drama, one of three military-themed series introduced by the broadcast networks this season. Of them, only CBS’ Seal Team made it to a second season. The CW freshman Valor also has been canceled.
The Brave, which was relatively well received, landed the prime Monday 10 Pm slot. But it didn’t take full advantage of its sizable The Voice lead-in. After a modest ratings delivery in the fall, NBC opted not to give the military drama a back order beyond the original 13 episodes. The Brave’s season-now-series finale was on January 29. Its Season 1 average was a 1.6 adults 18-49 in Live+7.
Created by Dean Georgaris, The Brave was described as a journey into the complex world of America’s elite undercover military heroes. While D.I.A. Deputy Director Patricia Campbell (Heche) and her team of analysts wield the world...

[Editor’s Note: The following review of “The Brave” Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot,” contains spoilers.]
“The Brave” may chronicle the actions of courageous men and women, but, as a series, it’s anything but. The pilot is a paint-by-numbers kidnap-and-rescue story with an unrealistically happy ending, and the military drama only approaches any kind of haunting authenticity with an ending as dark and terrifying as it is likely not to come true.
Beginning in Syria, the first episode picks up Dr. Kimberly Welles (Alix Wilton Regan) as she’s getting a ride home from her posting with Doctors Without Borders. But when her driver takes an alternate route and then abandons the car, gunmen descend on the car and take Kimberly by force.

The Brave has an uphill battle to find an audience and that may result in this turning into a show that a lot of people wish they had watched once it gets a few episodes in and struggles in the ratings. It’s fantastically niche for a start, because no matter how much it tries to wedge itself into the mold of popular cop shows, special forces hits and extraction missions just aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
If that weren’t enough, there is an air of the formulaic about the series which might not go over too well simply because the jump from the war room to the streets and back again reminds too much of too many shows.
Then we have to add in the idea that there are those out there who may be wishing that we would just stop trying to make Anne Heche happen.

To explain the genesis of NBC’s upcoming military drama The Brave, series creator Dean Georgaris invokes not the strategic genius of Sgt. Major Jonas Blane or the war-is-hell mentality of Capt. Benjamin “Hawkeye” Pierce, but the poor choices made by one Walter White.
“I don’t come from a military family. I don’t have a political axe to grind. I don’t have a particular fascination with death, but I am fascinated with human resiliency and human ingenuity,” Georgaris (Life of Pi) tells TVLine. After watching documentaries about American Special Forces teams, “I was continually impressed with their ingenuity.
