Following Kate Walsh's long run on ABC, the peacock network likely has great expectations for her Bad Judge sitcom. Is it a ratings hit? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

The pilot to Bad Judge feels off. That's not unexpected for a show that's already had two showrunners, a heavily revised first episode, and major cast alterations before the pilot has even premiered. Out of all of the behind-the-scenes calamity, though, comes a pilot that looks more like Frankenstein's Monster than a half-hour comedy. It's an episode that stitches together parts of completely different concepts in the hopes of making something cohesive, but instead delivers an episode nothing short of erratic. In the patchwork of a pilot, Bad Judge is missing just about every key ingredient—coherent plotting, concrete characterization,...

It’s hard to tell whether we should be impressed by Rebecca Wright, or just feel a little sorry for her.
Based on the series premiere of Bad Judge, I’m guessing it’s a little of both.
In the freshman comedy, which debuted Thursday on NBC, Private Practice‘s Kate Walsh stars as the titular judge, who’s excellent in the courtroom — but outside it? Well, she’s a mess. (Exhibit A: In the first five minutes of the show, she oversleeps, grabs a pregnancy test on her way to work, then celebrates its negative results as she walks into a sentencing.

She's a baaaad judge. She has hangovers. She drives a scuzzy van and has sex on her desk. She wears shorts. She has several pairs of glasses. Buh-buh-buh-baaaad to the bone. She's so bad, she sexually harasses the lawyers who are arguing cases in front of her, and she has everyone in the courtroom arrested because who even cares about the abuse of judicial power? Ha, ha, ha, she's a bad judge. Bad, bad, bad.Bad Judge, which premieres at 9 p.m. tonight on NBC, is a bad show, though it has a pretty solid cast. Kate Walsh stars as Rebecca Wright, and one hopes when this show gets canceled — which it will, perhaps by the time you're done reading this paragraph — she heads back to ShondaLand, either returning to Grey's Anatomy or maybe doing an arc on Scandal. She could even be a bad judge on How to...

An intelligent, hard-working and successful woman whose professional life is perfect, but whose personal life is, well, less so? Yes, Kate Walsh's new gig starring on NBC's Bad Judge may not sound like a huge stretch from her days on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice as Dr. Addison Montgomery, but Judge Rebecca Wright makes Addison look like pretty tame.
"It's two different beasts," Walsh tells TVGuide.com. "I think Addison is probably more sophisticated for sure. [Rebecca]'s a little more edgy."
That's a serious understatement....

Bad Judge, the love child of executive producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, doesn't exactly have an extraordinary premise and might not even deserve a spot on your DVR, but if you're a Kate Walsh fan, this show might just be for you.
In a nutshell, the single-camera comedy is about an unconventional criminal court judge named Rebecca Wright with a reputation that precedes her. Blunt and tough, Rebecca is not afraid to lay it on the line and deliver unorthodox rulings in court. Her personal life, on the other hand, is a completely different story. Let's just say she's a promiscuous drummer who eats cake and wine for breakfast.

One of television’s most familiar faces is returning to primetime, and she’s ditching her hospital scrubs for a judge’s robe. Kate Walsh teams up with Will Ferrell’s producing partner-in-crime, Adam McKay, to star in NBC’s Bad Judge airing Thursdays at 9/8c beginning Oct. 2. As the title suggests, Kate’s character, the honorable Rebecca Wright, isn’t exactly a girl scout, but she’s very effective at what she does, and the results are tailor-made for some laughs. Here’s a slightly condensed version of what the down-to-earth Walsh had to share. Many viewers who primarily know you from dramatic roles in Grey’s Anatomy … Continue reading →

On Sunday, NBC announced its 2014-2015 prime-time lineup, consisting of "inventive new comedies [and] compelling new dramas" we can expect to see starting this fall. From the looks of it, the Peacock intends to keep its lead in the 18–49 demographic with the help of Debra Messing (The Mysteries of Laura), Katherine Heigl (State of Affairs), and Hope Davis (Allegiance), among others. The network was even nice enough to release trailers for many of the new shows, along with brief summaries:a to Z"This is the A-to-z story of Andrew (Ben Feldman) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti) — a pair that almost wasn’t — and all that happened from the day they met." If you aren't immediately suspicious of every new TV/movie production called "Bad [Something]," we must not be on the same planet. Considering CBS just canceled its own "Bad Teacher" and we're only a couple months out from movies like "Bad Words" and "Bad Grandpa," it's easy to say the formulaic title is a lazy way to indicate that we're in for a naughty, rambunctious time. But then again, "Bad Grandpa" scored an Oscar nomination, so what do I know? Enter "Bad Judge," NBC's new comedy about a well-respected and tough judge named Rebecca Wright, played by the striking and dependable Kate Walsh. She's essentially a legislative revamp of Ari Graynor in "Bad Teacher" who hands down attitude and gross-out revelations to the shock and dismay of the people in her chambers. Here's what we learned from the first trailer of the new series. 1. Kate Walsh is believably ridiculous. For a...

Just keeping busy before its big schedule announcement on Sunday, NBC picked up a trio of comedies on Friday afternoon, including two from executive producer Will Ferrell. The "Anchorman" star and "Anchorman" director Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions is behind "Bad Judge" and "Mission Control," which will be joined by "One Big Happy" on NBC's slate for next season. Sadly, Ferrell has nothing to do with "One Big Happy," but with Ellen DeGeneres executive producing, it doesn't lack for behind-the-scenes starpower. Let's look at the three new NBC comedies and let's try not to resent that they were ordered while "Community" was cancelled...
