“As a huge Trekkie myself, I am always tempted to use the theme, to install all these little Easter eggs,” reveals “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” composer Nami Melumad. about the most exciting parts of the show’s score; the orchestral melodies that duck and dive between robust action drama and beloved old-school flourishes like the instantly recognizable original series theme. For our recent webchat she adds, “I think for all composers who work on ‘Trek’ you have to be very aware of when you’re choosing to use the ‘Star Trek’ theme. You want to bring it when it’s earned, otherwise, if you just continue to use it all the time, it loses its effectiveness. It’s like the icing on the cake, it’s like something we’re all always so looking forward to.” We talked with Melumad as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the...

“We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures,” executive producer Alex Kurtzman and showrunner Mike McMahon said in a statement. “While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”

Production on the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently underway, and one former Star Trek cast member has an idea of how they could be brought back. John Billingsley played Dr. Phlox on Star Trek: Enterprise, and although Strange New Worlds takes place a hundred years after Enterprise, he notes that nothing has been established regarding the lifespans of Denobulans.
“I was on the strike line and some of the Strange New Worlds guys were coming up and saying ‘How long do you think Denobulans live?’” Billingsley told TrekMovie. “I said ‘Long. Long, long, long. Definitely long enough to be on your show if that’s what you’re getting at.’ So who knows? I mean, I would happily come back. And I figure, hell, even if I’m dead, my son Phlox Jr. is still around, and he is the spitting image of his old pop.

In 2022, the Star Trek universe got a little bigger with the premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The Paramount+ series follows the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise – under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) – as they explore uncharted territories and encounter new life and civilizations.
The streaming service was so confident that the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff would be a hit with fans that they ordered a second season months before the series premiered. Then, in March 2023, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was renewed for season 3, several months in advance of the June 2023 season 2 premiere.
So, when will Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 premiere, and what can fans expect from the new episodes? Here’s what we know so far.

This is Day 130 of the WGA strike and Day 57 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
There was fan convention energy on the picket line outside Paramount offices in Manhattan on Friday as more than 100 people marched in a Star Trek-themed rally put on by the Writers Guild of America East.
The first of two “United We Trek!” pickets in New York and Los Angeles drew a show runner and actors from spinoffs of the original Paramount-owned franchise, a Star Trek novelist, and a contingent of Trekkies marching in Starfleet garb.
On another hot morning in the late-summer heat sink of Times Square, picketers incorporated Star Trek catchphrases into chanted refrains such as “Live long and prosper/We want their offer” and “Paramount, let’s engage/We want a fair wage.”

On this day in 1966, Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Original Series launched on NBC.
Some 57 years later, the stars and crew of the latest iterations of Roddenberry’s universe came out to remind the studios and fans why they’re striking.
There were pickets in both LA and New York. On the west coast, stars including Michelle Hurd,
LeVar Burton and George Takei turned up outside Paramount, which controls the franchise, while in New York the likes of Melissa Navia, who stars in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, was one of many in Manhattan.
The writers and actors said that they were to pay homage to Roddenberry’s vision of a future, a future where everyone is treated with respect and corporate greed is a thing of the past. “Sadly, though, the studios and the AMPTP are failing to live up to Gene’s vision,” the WGA said.

CBS is boldly bringing Star Trek back to broadcast TV.

CBS will air the show’s series premiere, “Strange New Worlds,” as well as the show’s second episode, “Children of the Comet,” giving broadcast viewers a chance to sample the streaming series.
Strange New Worlds recently finished airing its second season, which received a fair amount of acclaim from critics and viewers alike, and is considered to have helped breathe some new life into the TV franchise.
Sept. 8 has been christened Star Trek Day because the original series premiered on that date in 1966.

Spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" follow.
It's been over a week since season 2 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" wrapped. I'd call the season a success; it built upon the rock-solid first season and swung further toward the fences. "Strange New Worlds" season 2 was daring, goofy, and pushed "Star Trek" into new frontiers while capping off with a bold cliffhanger right out of "The Next Generation."
While the premiere is at least a year away, it was confirmed back in March 2023 that "Strange New Worlds" has been renewed for a third season. The cast has already floated some ideas; Rebecca Romijn (Commander Una-Chin Riley/Number One) wants an episode showing how her character met Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), for example. But it's not just the show's cast and crew with hopes and dreams for season 3.
After season 1 ended, I wrote a list of what /Film wanted out...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 finale “Hegemony.”] The good news: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has already been renewed for a third season. The frustrating news: No matter what the wait is for it, it’s going to seem like too long after the Season 2 finale cliffhanger. When Batel’s (Melanie Scrofano) crew — which includes Chapel (Jess Bush), on her way to her fellowship — runs into some serious trouble (the Gorn!), Pike (Anson Mount) and the Enterprise rush to their rescue. Along the way, they meet a certain Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn), Spock (Ethan Peck) and Chapel save each other, Batel is infected, and La’an (Christina Chong), M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), Ortegas (Melissa Navia), and Sam (Dan Jeannotte), along with others, are taken by the Gorn … and that’s how the finale ends. This post contains major spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
As I watched the season 2 finale of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," titled "Hegemony," it took until the closing five minutes for me to ask: "How are they going to resolve this?" The Enterprise is locked in combat with a fleet of Gorn ships. Those reptilian predators have abducted key members of the crew. Captain Batel (Melanie Scrofano) is on borrowed time before a Gorn chestburster kills her while Captain Pike (Anson Mount) can't decide whether to push on and save his people or obey Starfleet and retreat.
Half a minute before the credits rolled, the answer hit me — the resolution isn't coming, at least not yet. Sure enough, the episode ends with a title card "To Be Continued..." Those are words once synonymous with TV, but streaming has put them out of fashion.

After a blockbuster musical episode, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is closing out its second season in much more serious fashion. The sci-fi series’ season finale “Hegemony” will pit the crew of the USS Enterprise against a classic enemy of old. And in a first look at the finale, exclusively shared with IndieWire, it’s revealed that said enemy is one of the most dangerous in the “Star Trek” galaxy: the Gorn.
The Gorn, a race of hostile reptellian humanoid aliens, first appeared in “Arena,” one of the most iconic episodes of Gene Roddenberry’s science fiction series. In “Strange New Worlds,” the species appeared twice in the show’s first season: “Memento Mori,” where a Gorn military ship attacks the Enterprise, and “All Those Who Wonder,” where hatchlings from the species caused the death of Enterprise engineer Hemmer (Bruce Horak). The finale marks the first and only appearance of the species,...

War has always been a touchy subject for "Star Trek." Throughout the original series, the Federation had formed an uneasy alliance with the Klingons and was not on the rosiest terms with the Romulans, so war was constantly hanging over everyone's heads. There were occasional episodes involving combat or espionage, but there were no outright full-scale battles; that's not what "Star Trek" was about. A large part of Gene Roddenberry's utopian future was a devotion to pacifism. Being strong was now defined by one's ability to reason, to help others. It was no longer about might or domination.
But, it seems, "Star Trek" had a long way to go. In the episode "Patterns of Force", William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, both Jewish actors, were required to put on Nazi uniforms and read lines about how, welp, the Third Reich may have been evil, but they got the trains running on time.

In the newest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," called "Under the Cloak of War," several members of the Enterprise crew get to openly discuss the consequences of war, and ponder their deep-seated battlefield trauma from the recent Klingon conflict. "Star Trek" has long been a franchise that advocates pacifism, and sees war as -- just like in the real world -- humankind's ultimate failing. "Cloak" sees soldiers as either brainwashed into mindless, suicidal sacrifice for ideals that don't even exist, or as suffering murderers who are constantly living on the brink of madness and violence. It also sees few avenues for healing; once war trauma has taken hold, no act of justice is sufficient to cleanse one's soul. Everyone gets out stained.

In "Those Old Scientists," the latest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," a magical time portal is discovered in the late 24th century by the characters from "Star Trek: Lower Decks." Ensigns Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Mariner (Tawney Newsome) accidentally activate the portal and are thrown back in time 120 years to where Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew discover them. For the sake of retaining timeline purity, everyone agrees that Boimler and Mariner need to be sent back to the future. The issue is that no one knows how to activate the portal in the 23rd century, as it requires a rare element that is near-impossible to manufacture, and it is emblazoned with symbols that even the talented Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) cannot translate.

"Anyone else notice how specific their references are?"
Ensigns Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Mariner (Tawny Newsome) time traveled their way onto the U.S.S. Enterprise this week, and when they weren't jovially messing with the future of mankind, the duo from "Star Trek: Lower Decks" were spitting references that encompassed pretty much all of "Star Trek" history. While the bulk of the latest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" involved Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and the team trying to manage the fallout of this temporal (crossover) event, they honestly needn't have worried: Boimler and Mariner referenced so many "Trek" moments so quickly that I don't think anyone could've caught the reality-altering information hidden in their quips if they tried.

It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last year that there would be a special crossover episode between Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Flash forward one year later, and that crossover episode will premiere early for the fans at Comic-Con.
As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are both on strike, you shouldn’t expect any actors or writers to take part in the Star Trek Universe Comic-Con panel, but Paramount still has a lot to present. The panel will take place on July 22nd (Saturday) at 1:30pm in Hall H and will feature “exclusive reveals and surprises from upcoming and current seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.” All of that, plus the premiere screening of the Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover episode.

With the success of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 under her belt, Melissa Navia has happily settled into the fact her novel, non-canon character, Lt. Erica Ortegas, has quickly become one of the most beloved crew members aboard this iteration of the USS Enterprise.
The most recent adventure on (and in orbit around) Rigel VII offers fans insights into what makes the highly skilled pilot tick. (Warning: spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 4.)
Speaking with TV Fanatic in an exclusive interview over Zoom, Navia delves into how having memories and identity stripped away reveals her character's core strength and intrinsic qualities.
Navia recognizes that audiences feel that Ortegas is accessible and that they connect with her as a capable and open character with a solid understanding of her abilities and role on the ship.

A franchise that’s producing as much as “Star Trek” is right now shouldn’t be this good.
A year ago, “Strange New Worlds” debuted and delivered the best first season of a “Trek” show since “The Original Series.” Then “Picard” ended on a soaring and soulful note, leaving fans desperate for more. And now “Strange New Worlds” is back for Season 2, delivering the kind of character-driven episodic sci-fi that now seems downright revolutionary in the serialized streaming era.
Each one of these has been better than the last.
Somehow franchise overlord Alex Kurtzman has unlocked the secret to both quantity and quality, something which has eluded that other space-bound saga in its own streaming era. He seems to have done it by simply trusting his showrunners: Terry Matalas for “Picard” and Akiva Goldsman (never better) and Henry Alonso Myers for “Strange New Worlds.”
The result, in “Strange New Worlds...

By any measure, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds had a brilliant debut season, winning the hearts and sparking the imaginations of Trek fans, old and new.
Some of the intense anticipation for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 can be credited to its role as a prequel series, introducing the proto-tos versions of canon characters, Spock, Uhura, and Kirk.
Additionally, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 did a stellar job of introducing new characters like Melissa Navia's Erica Ortegas, the Enterprise's pilot and resident shoot-from-the-hip quipster.
In preparation for the Season 2 premiere this Thursday, TV Fanatic recently sat in for online roundtable interviews with several of the show's delightful cast members - Ethan Peck (Spock), Paul Wesley (James T. Kirk), Melissa Navia (Erica Ortegas), and Celia Rose Gooding (Nyota Uhura).
As expected, Peck and Wesley fielded a plethora of questions about reuniting Spock and Kirk onscreen.

We’ve been bingeing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in my house lately. In addition to the underrated spinoff’s individual merits, it’s striking to be reminded of the differences between the era where every successful show made 20-plus episodes a year, and this current one, where 10 episodes per season is the most given to almost everybody, including modern-day Trek shows like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
There were definitely downsides to the old system. Unevenness was inevitable when producing that much content each season. As we near the...

The upcoming second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will include a crossover episode with Star Trek: Lower Decks, but if the cast have their way… it won’t be the last crossover for the series. While speaking with SFX Magazine, Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount (Pike) and Ethan Peck (Spock) are holding out hope for a crossover with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
“I’d have to say The Next Generation,” Ethan Peck said, “Just because I’ve gotten now to work with Jonathan Frakes and I’ve gotten to know some of the cast. They’re so fun and wonderful and I’ve become a fan of the show. Furthermore, I think Data is my all-time favourite character. It would be a dream come true to have a scene between Spock and Data. Trekkies who are a little behind the ball (or simply don't feel like subscribing to Paramount+) now have a window of opportunity to watch some of the most widely-acclaimed "Star Trek" in a long, long time for the low, low price of free. The folks at Paramount have decided to upload the entire first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" to YouTube for anyone to watch. The new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount, facing new territories, civilizations and dangers.
“You’re going to start the engines some time soon, Erica?” a jostled Pike asks Lt. When we last saw Rebecca Romijn's Number One, Captain Pike's trusty second-in-command in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," the character was being hauled off by officials for failing to disclose she is Ilyrian. Romijn is a key part of the new Enterprise crew, so it was a relief when the first trailer for "Strange New Worlds" season 2 showed her right back where she belonged: on the starship that will one day be captained by James Kirk himself.
The trailer for the new season is delightful, with hints of the show's signature humor and chemistry and a great speech by Number One herself about the beauty of the Enterprise's diverse, galaxy-spanning crew and their unique journeys. It should come as little surprise, then, that season 2 of the show is set to explore Number One's journey in greater detail, with an episode focused on her backstory. The “Star Trek” universe continues to expand, with fan favorites returning and new shows (and worlds) to explore on the Paramount+ streaming service even as “Star Trek: Picard” comes to an end.
“Strange New Worlds” and “Lower Decks” are eyeing a summer return, with “Prodigy” slated for a winter release.
They’re also several projects in development, including a “Starfleet Academy” focusing on young cadets, and a “Section 31” movie centered around Michelle Yeoh’s deliciously evil anti-hero from “Discovery.”

The first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" concluded on July 7, 2022, with the finale rounding out what might be one of the strongest debut years in "Star Trek" history. It's commonly accepted among Trekkies that Trek shows -— however interesting their cast, characters, and setting -- start at a low ebb in writing and quality; Trek is the poster child for the phrase "It gets good in season 3." The characters' personal lives matter less than how they behave when they're on the clock.
It might have been expected that "Strange New Worlds" was renewed for a second season, as Paramount+ is putting all its eggs in one starship (the service has...
