Stars: Curtis Caldwell, Tom Getty, Daniel Kuttner, Philip Lewis, Eamon McGee, Kirsten Meenan, Joel Neff, David Roush | Written and Directed by Tom Getty
Despite seemingly being under the radar of everyone, it would seem Tom Getty is something of a one-man movie-making machine; having produced, written, directed And starred in five films since 2003. His latest is Rising Fear, which has (at least on the box art) been retitled The Patriot for its UK DVD debut… I mention on the “box art” as the film still carries the original title in the opening credits, shoddy work from everyone involved in this release! Although that fact is actually a great reflection of the film itself. It’s all a bit… inferior.
But don’t get me wrong, there’s actually a gem of an idea hiding in this movie, it’s just that its hidden within a production that disappoints at almost every turn…...

I've already watched the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens more than any other trailer this year, thanks in large part to all of the different parody videos that have popped up recently, and, well, it just being an awesome trailer.
Remember how Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Wars had a little game going when both of them were in production? You can find a rundown of all of the crazy images that were shared right here, and now /Film points us to YouTuber Ryan Taylor's mashup of his own: footage for Bvs over the top of audio from the Star Wars trailer. It's a fun exercise that draws sonic and visual comparisons between what we know of the two movies thus far.

There aren’t many things worse than the sudden transfer of your favourite player to another club. Before you know it, they’re wearing a different kit and smiling as they hold aloft their new team’s scarf and pose for photos. Apparently they don’t care about Newcastle United, St James’ Park or Eldon Square Shopping Centre as much as you had originally given them credit for and now you’re being forced to somehow move on.
It’s brutal. Football fans are a loyal, nostalgic bunch and outside of their families, partners and pets the only thing that gets their loins burning is the sight of their favourite footballer bounding across 100 yards of green turf. And if that is suddenly taken away from them (which can happen at any moment during the summer or during the month of January), then things will get kicked,...

Former Newcastle United midfielder Ryan Taylor has received at least two contract offers for next season – with Bolton Wanderers joining Belgian side Standard Liege in the race for the free agent’s signature.
Taylor was released by the Magpies via a phonecall in which he was also asked to pass the phone over to Jonas Gutierrez, who had only returned after months out recovering from cancer, at the end of the 2014-15 season.
Although he has spent the entirety of his career to date in England with Newcastle, Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers, it looks as if the Liverpool-born midfielder could now be heading across to Belgium – but not if Bolton boss Neil Lennon has anything to do with it.

It’s signed sealed and delivered, isn’t it? Steve McClaren is set to be named the Newcastle United head coach any time now.
It is an appointment that has already been lambasted by the overwhelming majority of Magpies’ fans. An uninspiring appointment that indicates that what Mike Ashley said before the West Ham game on the final day of the Premier League season was a pack of lies.
Coupled with the fact there has been quite literally no movements in the transfer window, aside from the cost cutting measures of releasing Jonas Gutierrez and Ryan Taylor, it seems to be a case of business as usual at the club.
Dreams and aspirations lay dead along with any thought of ambition…
This wouldn’t be the first time that a large section of the Newcastle support were unhappy with a managerial appointment. Doubts that have proven...

It’s never dull at St James’ Park, is it?
Just as the dust was settling after Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez’s release last week, a couple of staggering accusations have been levelled at the club. The decision to let the pair go left a really bad taste in the mouths of each and every Newcastle United fan and went some way to proving that nothing has changed despite what owner Mike Ashley said a couple of weeks back.
Not least because it was revealed how Lee Charnley and Newcastle’s football board decided to let the pair know of their respective futures. The powers that be at Newcastle got former (we hope) head coach John Carver to ring Ryan Taylor, and then got the former United utility man to pass the phone over the Jonas during the same call.

Newcastle need to strengthen this summer. There’s absolutely no denying it.
An already threadbare squad was cut down to the absolute bare minimum during last season and the respective departures of both Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Davide Santon contributed to the team’s close call with Premier League relegation.
Newcastle simply didn’t have the options. They were forced to plug round holes with square pegs as players were continuously played out of position. Although, Ryan Taylor’s continued preference in central midfield can only be put down to come sort of sick fetish John Carver had for his ‘set piece specialist’.
One problem that Newcastle will have this summer is attracting players of a suitable quality to improve their team. (Although, the way they played for most of the 2014/15 season you would be forgiven for thinking they couldn’t buy Anyone to hamper the side’s quality.

Desperate. That word describes Newcastle United’s situation perfectly right now – because they look like a side who are hurtling down the precipice with no hope of escape. They may finally have ended their five-and-a-half-game away-goal drought but John Carver’s men have still not won a game since February 28th – with the Magpies succumbing to their ninth defeat in their last 10 matches.
Despite taking the lead against already-relegated Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road after 24 minutes thanks to Emmanuel Riviere’s first-ever Premier League goal, Newcastle’s ineptitude in defence meant that they were 2-1 down by the 61st minute – having been ahead at half-time.
A header from Matt Phillips that goalkeeper Tim Krul should have done better with and probably should have saved brought Qpr level, and then a 30-yard wonder strike from Leroy Fer condemned the Magpies to yet another defeat. Hull City may yet go down,...

Ryan Taylor has admitted that it has been difficult to concentrate on Newcastle United’s Premier League relegation fight – because he is worried about his contract situation.
The 30-year-old midfielder’s current deal expires in the summer and the Liverpudlian has been given no reassurances about his long-term future at the club.
Although Taylor’s immediate priority is ensuring the Magpies remain in the Premier League – Newcastle are fourth-bottom and just two points clear of 18th-placed Hull City – he is concerned about the lack of “security” he has due to the fact his contract expires within a matter of weeks.

Speaking to The Sun, former Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers midfielder Taylor explained of his contract situation:
“I’m not going to lie, the situation does play on my mind because like any other professional it is nice to have a contract and some security.

Newcastle United seem to be Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher’s favourite weekly punching bag – but every single bit of criticism directed at the Magpies by the duo on Monday Night Football this week was thoroughly merited.
Neville described Newcastle as a club in “free-fall” right now following their club-record eighth-straight Premier League, while his fellow Sky Sports pundit Carragher blasted the Magpies as “shambles”.
John Carver’s side meekly surrendered 3-0 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium – having two players dismissed for two bookings in the process – and the club then descended into a mini civil war as the interim head coach accused Mike Williamson of “deliberately” getting sent off, before club-captain Fabricio Coloccini and goalkeeper Tim Krul allegedly exchanged words on the coach after the game.

More than a couple of eyebrows were raised when Remy Cabella was left on the bench for the game against Leicester City.
However, a couple of selections in particular leave a lot more to be desired as John Carver picked both Jonás Gutiérrez and Ryan Taylor in centre midfield.
Picking right back and a winger in the middle of then park when you have two ‘specialist’ centre midfielders on the bench? Classic Geordie John behaviour.
Let’s not completely lose sight of the fact that to even see both men on a football pitch after all they’ve gone through is nothing short of miraculous. But their respective displays against Leicester proved that Carver and his coaching staff need to leave all sentiment at the door ahead the final three games of the season.

If talk of Newcastle United being relegated was merely a pessimistic possibility before the weekend then following this implosion at the King Power Stadium then it has become an all-too real prospect. The Magpies look so inept right now that not only do they appear incapable of getting another win before the season is out, they appear incapable of picking up a single point.
A double from Leonardo Ulloa, including one from the penalty spot, and a Wes Morgan goal condemned Newcastle to their eighth consecutive defeat – their worst ever Premier League run – as the Magpies finished the game with nine men once more with Mike Williamson dismissed after picking up two yellow cards, as Daryl Janmaat was in injury time. They have now conceded 60 goals in the Premier League – that is the most in the entire division – following this 3-0 reversal.

Newcastle United legend Rob Lee claims the club have slipped so far behind their Premier League competitors that they must spend “at least” £100 million this summer in order to catch up.
The 49-year-old also believes Alan Pardew saw the Magpies’ relegation battle “coming” – and that’s why he departed for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year.
A massive squad overhaul is expected at St James’ Park if the club manages to secure their top-flight future – with players departing and others arriving. There will be much upheaval at St James’ Park this summer – fresh faces will arrive, including in all likelihood a new head coach, and many will also leave Tyneside. Some players will be sold, while others will not be offered new contracts.
With eight players’ deals set to expire in the summer, the Newcastle United hierarchy have some big decisions to make on the future of the club. Some deadwood needs to be shifted out, that is for certain, but others must be retained – even just as squad players – if the Magpies do retain their Premier League status and aim to rebuild and avoid a relegation battle again next season.

Newcastle United’s 1-0 loss at home to Manchester United may have frustrated Magpies fans – but the result had been of far less importance at St James’ Park that night then the return of one of their own.
Jonas Gutierrez took to the field in in 65th minute, replacing Ryan Taylor, to complete a remarkable comeback having twice been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Less than 5 months after undergoing his final session of chemotherapy for a cancerous tumour on his testicle, Jonas Gutierrez made an emotional return to a professional football pitch.
Spiderman came on as a 65th minute substitute for Ryan Taylor to the adoration of 50,000 lumpy-throated Geordies inside St James’ Park.
After everything he has gone through over the past 18 months, seeing Jonas put in a typically gutsy display when The Magpies’ chips were certainly down was a joy to behold.
It was a performance that epitomised the man to a tee. We all know that work rate and determination is the name of the game when it comes to Newcastle’s resident superhero and he proved that his devastating illness hasn’t changed things.

Were you devastated with Newcastle United throwing away what could still prove to be the most precious of points against Manchester United on Wednesday?
Don’t be, because you witnessed a miracle.
Yes the 90 minutes that played out on the pitch was ugly and stop start. Yes two men spat each other. And yes the atmosphere inside the stadium hit an all new low for Newcastle United fans.
But Jonas Gutierrez stepped foot on a professional football pitch again. That’s all that matters.
Newcastle needed someone to step up to the plate. Ryan Taylor, bless him, was a few steps off the pace and was being tortured at times by the quick interplay down the visitor’s right hand side.
He looked drained as he trudged off the pitch. But cometh the hour, cometh the man.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Newcastle are finally starting to play a bit of football (or are at least winning games), the media are falling over themselves to accuse us all of having expectations of Europe now that our unreasonable expectations of not getting relegated are done with, and Christmas is in the air.
Unfortunately, because it’s November, and the busiest part of the season is coming up, Newcastle have been hit with yet another injury crisis. Steven Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Fabricio Coloccini and Rolando Aarons have joined the walking wounded list, with Cheick Tiote’s fitness uncertain, Davide Santon and Emmanuel Riviere possibly getting close to fitness and a host of longer term injuries (in Gabriel Obertan, Siem De Jong, Curtis Good and Jonas). With a full team’s worth of players now out, Newcastle are currently joint top of the Premier League injury table – along with Everton.

Thinking back to Ryan Taylor’s recovery period, and the games the club put on behind closed doors to help him claw some fitness back after two years of inactivity, it was a smart move by all associated with organising them.
But, what probably wasn’t a smart move, and what the club will probably be less inclined to publicise openly, is that those Behind Closed Doors games were only closed to the public. They were open to scouts from other clubs.
And unfortunately – inevitably – Man City had a scout at at least one of those games (not necessarily one of the games set up for Taylor specifically, but one in the not too distant past), because they’ve got their eyes on one of Newcastle’s talents.
No prizes for guessing that the man in question is Rolando Aarons, whose blistering Premier...

It’s hard to over-state how important Moussa Sissoko has been in the past few days: it was his central midfield performance in the second half of the Spurs game that was the driving force behind victory, and when he came on against Man City in the cup in mid-week he made an immediate, powerful impact. It’s no surprise then to note that Alan Pardew says he is likely to continue in that position – especially given the performances of Gabriel Obertan:
“I don’t think, with the team at the moment, that he’s going to play out there (on the right) when (Gabriel) Obertan is playing so well, so it’s about him adapting his game.”
Pardew insists that Sissoko is one of his first chosen names when he puts the team together, no matter where he’s playing – and he’s played a...

A lot of talk has already appeared regarding who Newcastle boss Alan Pardew should play tomorrow against Liverpool: in the wake of the Man City game, the manager now has one of the most difficult decisions he’s ever had to make. Had that youthful team lost, he could have cast all of those players off as back-up to the first team (as most of them seemingly were by their selection in the first place), but now he has the added head-ache of having to drop some players who have played out of their skin.
Should Ryan Taylor play? Should Rolando Aarons? Is Papiss Cisse fit enough to come straight back in? What about Steven Taylor? These are just some of the questions that face the manager as he stares at his note-pad wondering which players to put out against Brendan Rodgers’ side for the early kick off, and overall,...

Are there big plans afoot at Newcastle?
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle’s scouting team – now thankfully minus Ryan Taylor, who is back to his primary duties finally – will be running the rule over key attacking And defensive targets in two very important missions this weekend as the Magpies attempt to make it 3 on the bounce in the league against Liverpool.
They say that the club will have representatives in both France and Germany to take in games featuring Marseille and Wolfsburg, as the club look to get a head start on their winter transfer schedule with the missing two pieces of the jigsaw they apparently tried to get at the end of the summer.
In Marseille, Newcastle’s boys will be watching striker target – a confirmed one apparently – Andre-Pierre Gignac, the top scoring Frenchman whose contract is up at the end of the season, and who...

2014/15 has been grim so far, aside from a few flashes of brilliance: it has been a season defined by criticism, protest and furious PR attempts to get everyone behind the team. And despite the form of the team for the majority of 2014, things are looking up: the Magpies have won two in a row in the Premier League, are in the Quarter Finals of the League Cup having knocked out the holders with a team full of youngsters and back-ups, and the relegation zone is behind, even if it’s not very far away.
It’s hardly been a time to remember – cup exploits aside – but there have been some positives in the performances of individual players. Considering how much investment went into the squad this summer, there was bound to be some period od adjustment, and it’s not really much of a surprise to...

Alan Pardew has something of a selection crisis on his hand, after two wins and 20 used players in the last two games. And while it would be silly to imagine that the team that starts against Liverpool tomorrow will look anything like the one that overcame the odds and Man City’s team of millionaire internationals, the League Cup victory might well have raised some more questions for him.
And because of the injury to Cheick Tiote in the key defensive holding role, the manager could use some of the points he has seen over the last two games to assess which candidates are the best to replace the missing Ivorian, including Mehdi Abeid, who starred in the City win with an impressive performance.
It seems unlikely that Pardew will go with the same team as he did against City, since he openly expressed before the...

An incredible night on which an astonishing selection came together to earn a brilliant result.
Every Newcastle player deserved every plaudit and every single line of praise inevitably showered on them. And regardless of the accusations that Manuel Pellegrini deserves criticism for his selection, his team of millionaires and ten internationals should have rolled over a team made up of a third choice centre-half pairing, a third (at least) central midfield three, and our fourth choice striker.
But through a disciplined, dogged performance that relied in part on an exceptional goal line clearance by returning hero Ryan Taylor, Newcastle won 2-0. It could have been more, as Obertan was adjudged to have been offside in a very close call, and the was then denied a stone wall penalty.
Newcastle overcame the weight of expectation to absorb (just about) all that City could throw at them, using speed and...

Just when you think those accusations that the club don’t want to win any cup games, Newcastle have just announced their team to play Man City in the League Cup, with a quarter final at stake.
This could have been a publicity win for the club, with City likely to take it easy ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby, so a statement of intent would have been nice. And that’s precisely what we got, but not in the way anyone could have expected.
Instead of playing the strongest possible team, or even the second strongest team, Newcastle have effectively picked the third strongest team, calling up reserves Mehdi Abeid and Adam Armstrong. They’re in the first team along with Ryan Taylor, who hasn’t played for two years, Rolando Aarons who can’t be anywhere near match fit after his own injury,...

Man City welcome Newcastle to the Etihad for tonight’s 7.45pm kick-off in the League Cup, and unsurprisingly the line-ups are different to those we saw achieve very different results at the weekend.
With Manchester United coming up, City have chosen to drop Vincent Kompany, in favour of bringing Demichelis and Mangala back in together, which could well be news to Newcastle fans’ ears.
Yaya Toure surprisingly starts in centre-midfield in a surprisingly strong City side.
Despite calls to attack City, Newcastle have gone with a more conservative selection with Ryan Taylor in midfield with Mehdi Abeid preferred to Vurnon Anita, and Alan Armstrong handed a rare start in place of Ayoze Perez.
There’s a return for Rolando Aarons too, but first-teamers Tim Krul, Moussa Sissoko, Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran and Emmanuel Riviere are only on the bench.

Man City welcome Newcastle to the Etihad stadium fresh from their disappointing Premier League defeat at West Ham (the second of their season already), with a big Manchester derby to come this weekend.
Newcastle go into the game on the back of an impressive away win over Spurs.
Team News
Aside from the injury to Frank Lampard, City have a full squad to choose from, and The Times claim that goalkeeper Caballero will be chosen to play ahead of Joe Hart.
More changes to the side that lost to West Ham last week are to be expected, given that the Manchester derby is coming up hard this weekend.
For Newcastle Mike Williamson, Davide Santon, Siem De Jong, Emmanuel Riviere and Rolando Aarons remain out, though there was some suggestion that the Jamaican born winger might make it.

Greeting the news that Ryan Taylor and Rolando Aarons were back in contention for the Spurs game tomorrow, Alan Pardew has come out with a very odd statement, suggesting that their recoveries somehow indicate the club are committed to fighting for survival.
“It just shows that we are fighting on all fronts from the chairman downwards. We tried to emphasise to the players it’s very, very important that we get ourselves up the league and try to put a run of wins together.”
Talking endlessly about fight and graft is inevitable, and not unwelcome – though it means little if it isn’t translated on the pitch – but it’s baffling how the recovery of a player who has been out for two years, and of another who was only out short-term indicate that Mike Ashley is fighting.

For a lot of people, the biggest problem in the clash between Alan Pardew and Hatem Ben Arfa at Newcastle was Ben Arfa himself: he’s viewed by some as a lazy, wayward genius, all too happy to throw away ability when asked for some hard-work. Even those who recognise the player as a brilliant talent with the power to change every game he plays in concede that he’s not a 90 minute player.
That is the accepted truth, because that is what the club, and Alan Pardew in particular have sold us for the past couple of years – ever since, in fact, he abandoned the 4-3-3 system that helped Ben Arfa enjoy his best form as a Newcastle player.
In the summer, we were told Ben Arfa was over-weight, and had let himself go badly, and no matter how good his raw ability, he was to be viewed as a tragic player,...

The injury to Cheick Tiote yesterday in the warm-up came as a significant blow to those Newcastle fans who simply can’t accept the value of Vurnon Anita, and it’s unclear whether he will be back for the Spurs game.
The mysterious head injury that forced a last minute change to the starting line-up is a frustration, but if it leads to a longer term absence, Alan Pardew might be forced to reconsider his enduring 4-2-3-1 formation. But then again, nothing has stopped him starting with it so far.
Paul Dummett also hobbled out of the game with a muscular problem that could keep him out – though in honesty he was suffering a torrid time on the left, and deserved to be substituted anyway. If he’s out Haidara will be a more than adequate replacement, and frankly he should be first choice anyway.

There’s news today that defender/midfielder Ryan Taylor might make a surprising appearance against Leicester City on Saturday for Newcastle – albeit as a substitute. The set-piece specialist (something Newcastle have missed for a considerable length of time now) has come through his reserve team appearances without any negative reaction, and though it’s been two years since he badly injured himself against Atromitos, it looks like he might be ready to integrate back into the first-team sooner rather than later.
Inevitably, rushing him back from injury is the worst idea possible – especially since the injury recurred in a bad way in April 2013 just as he was about to break through again – but it appears that the bows he made against Carlisle and Burnley in behind-closed-doors games have shown he’s heading back to match fitness. It’s clearly enough to have Pardew raving about him again,...

There’s something in the joke that Alan Pardew’s Plan B is to change his left-back, and it all comes down to the fact that he currently has six players currently at the club who can play or have played at left-back in the past.
As well as the first choice threesome of Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara and Davide Santon, the club has Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (now surely unlikely to return), Ryan Taylor and Vurnon Anita, and of all of those options it’s the young local lad who gets the nod at the minute.
Can that really be true? Is Dummett better than Santon – the former Inter Milan man called the “next Maldini” at one point – or Haidara, whose athleticism is phenomenal? Or is his selection more to do with the fact that he’s just a local kid with some heart?
It can’t be based...

The opening game of the Premier League weekend pits Paul Lambert’s Villains against Alan Pardew’s Magpies at 12.45pm, with the latter looking to recover from their opening day loss to Man City.
Villa meanwhile won away at Stoke, thanks to an imperious defensive performance by new signings Aly Cissokho, Philippe Senderos and key man Ron Vlaar. If Newcastle want to come away happy it is that back line that will have to be broken down.
With Siem De Jong back in the squad and in contention for his debut, goals might come easier, but Newcastle still look a little light up front.
At the tail end of last season Newcastle lost five straight away games, and Pardew will be looking to turn that tide.

In a tongue-in-cheek move perfectly fitting his reputation, former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd – once responsible for some of the best and worst moments in Nufc business history – has nominated current owner Mike Ashley to do the Als Ice Bucket Challenge.

The pair have considerable history after Shepherd saw the club sold out from under him to Ashley back in 2007, and having been a vocal critic of the Sports Direct supremo’s handling of the club since. And Shepherd clearly couldn’t resist letting a little animosity creep into his nomination: “I’ve donated Mike, so why don’t you?!”

Newcastle United have just announced their squad numbers for the coming season, and there are a couple of revelations that stick out from the updated list. First and foremost, Hatem Ben Arfa has lost his number 10 shirt to incoming attacking midfielder Siem De Jong, confirming not only that the player will likely take up a starting position behind a lone central striker, but also that Ben Arfa is probably on his way out.
It’s no great surprise that Ben Arfa has ben shifted down the pecking order – taking up Mathieu Debuchy’s vacant number 26 shirt – given the continued rumours that he is on the verge of being shifted out of the door, but it is somewhat strange that the player has been given a number at all. Precedent has suggested that such obviously unwanted players would be given no squad number at all – as Rob Lee...

Hatem Ben Arfa is one of the Premier League’s most gifted players when in full flow. Anyone who has seen his goal against Bolton in the 2011-12 season will testify to that. For anyone who doesn’t remember, a wonderful first touch in his own half saw him spin away from an initial challenge before leaving a further three defenders for dead and slotting it past the keeper.
Only that outrageous banana shot from his teammate Papiss Cisse (remember when he could score?) was a worthy rival for goal of the season that year. Injury stalled his progress last term, as Newcastle slumped to a woeful 16th place, but Ben Arfa has shown flashes of brilliance this season – his performance at Aston Villa arguably proved the difference as Newcastle came away with all three points.

This November 11th will be the third year of The Florida State University Student Veteran Film Festival (Svff) . For the past three years I have been asked to be the executive advisor to this initiative to provide opportunity to curate on behalf of the College Of Motion Picture Arts, and at the request of my Dean Frank Patterson and the University President, Dr. Eric Barron, in support of our Student Veterans the annual featured motion picture presentation. This initiative provides a platform, utilizing cinema to engage conversation surrounding issues facing our returning student veterans returning from their service. The Collegiate Veterans Association leaders created the concept for this festival, and I have had the honor to participate in the opportunity. As the Executive Director of the Florida State University College of Motion Picture ArtsTorchlight Program, and Executive Advisor to the Fsu Svff, I have been able to merge my independent film industry background with educational opportunities at the University with the vision of expanding learning opportunities through cinema.
In year one the film selected to present was ”Hell and Back Again”, directed by Danfung Dennis, which went on to be nominated for an Oscar in 2011. Year two the Svff presented “The Invisible War”, directed by Kirby Dick, which went on to be nominated for the Oscar in 2012. Fsu President Eric Barron created an award that year to honor Kirby Dick for his filmmaking, the Fsu Student Veteran Torchlight Award (described in the material provided). This year, the award will be presented to Sebastian Junger for his documentary, "Which Way Is The Front Line From Here? The Life And Time of Tim Hetherington".
The Collegiate Veterans Association at Florida State University is one of the most universally known and well-respected student veteran groups in the nation. The university, the administration, and the student body have joined together in an effort to make Florida State University one of the most veteran friendly public universities, in the nation. Inherent in this goal is our effort to raise awareness and promote veteran’s issues. The Student Veteran Film Festival is one of our primary vehicles for achieving these goals.
The Student Veteran Film Festival is an annual event at the Florida State University that highlights veteran issues on campus, in the local community, and nationally. This event has a proud tradition of elegance, prestige, and creation of intense dialogue between filmmakers, students, and veterans.
The education and awareness that this event has been able to cultivate for issues such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Military Sexual Trauma has been both significant and impactful. The inaugural event showcased the film ”Hell and Back Again” with the following year hosting “The Invisible War”. The nature of these films show that our student veterans are not afraid of having difficult conversations and are serious about impacting real, meaningful, change.
Third Annual Student Veteran Film Festival To Feature Award-winning Author And Film Director Sebastian Junger
Tallahassee – Florida State University students will bring award-winning author and filmmaker Sebastian Junger and his critically acclaimed documentary film “Which Way is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Times of Tim Hetherington” to the 3rd Annual Student Veteran Film Festival on Monday, Nov. 11.
A collaborative effort among the Collegiate Veterans Association , Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association and College of Motion Picture Arts, the event will feature a discussion with Junger about the film, which traces Hetherington’s work across the world's battlefields to reveal what made him such a singular talent — and remarkable human being. The film also illuminates the incredible risks combat journalists face, at a time when they are dying with greater frequency in war zones.
“We are proud to screen this acclaimed film and host an event that facilitates discussion about what life is like in war-torn parts of the world, which Tim Hetherington captured so movingly through his images,” said Ryan Taylor, president of the Fsu Collegiate Veterans Association.
Junger is a bestselling author (“The Perfect Storm,” “War”) who, with Hetherington, co-directed “Restrepo,” an Academy Award nominated documentary about an American combat outpost in Afghanistan.
Junger will also receive the “Fsu Student Veteran Torchlight Award for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking” following the screening of the film. The award, which comes with a $25,000 honorarium, is given annually to a filmmaker who illuminates issues affecting veterans.
"As part of Florida State’s commitment to become the most veteran-friendly university in the nation, we are recognizing filmmakers who explore issues that affect military service members, veterans and their families,” said Fsu President Eric J. Barron. “I am pleased to honor Sebastian Junger with this award for his poignant tribute to Tim Hetherington."
The film festival is intended to raise awareness of student-veterans’ issues and bridge the gap between veterans and the community. Paul Cohen, director of the College of Motion Picture Arts’ Torchlight program, secured the rights to screen “Which Way is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Times of Tim Hetherington.” The film, telecast and distributed by HBO, was screened at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

After finally getting back down to club football last weekend, this weekend sees a newly promoted Hull City make the trip north to Newcastle ahead of Saturday’s 3 pm Kick off at St James Park. I will be taking a look at any news ahead of the game and trying to work out likely starting line-ups and formations.
Hull City
As a newly promoted team, Hull City must have been hoping for an easier start than an away draw to Chelsea. Inevitably this game ended in defeat for the Tigers but it was a strong showing nonetheless. Some very astute signings throughout the transfer window and also a selling off of some of the squad players has left Steve Bruce with a competitive squad.
Most pundits suggest Hull City are in for a classic long and hard season as a newly promoted team. I think they have...

This weekend sees a hotly anticipated return to Premier League action after the imposed hiatus of the international break. Fans and players alike will be looking forward to getting back to club football. I will be looking at Aston Villa v Newcastle a game in which both teams will be looking to accentuate their respective abilities.
Aston Villa
After a strong finish to the season under Paul Lambert last term, Aston Villa were handed a bleak set of starting fixtures for the 13-14 campaign. After making some really good acquisitions in the summer transfer window and moving on some of the ‘dead wood’ many were unsure what to expect from Villa this term. An opening day 3-1 away demolition of a slow starting Arsenal was thoroughly deserved and perhaps illustrated the capabilities of this young Villa squad. Two successive competitively battled defeats against title challengers Chelsea (2-...
