Steven Spielberg was associated with a dinosaur film even before Jurassic Park came out in 1993. While the legendary filmmaker revolutionized cinema with the incredible dinosaur franchise, it was not his first time in the genre. He also acted as a producer in the 1988 animated film The Land Before Time.
Despite being a fun-filled animated dinosaur film for kids, The Land Before Time spoke on some mature topics like homelessness. However, if it was not for Spielberg, the film was also about to carry a more violent and darker tone, unlike a traditional children’s film.
A still from The Land Before Time I Amblin Entertainment
Some of the saddest sequences in films like The Lion King and Up have proven that even animated films come with loads of emotions and tearful scenes. But Steven Spielberg felt that the villain in The Land Before Time was becoming too scary to be in a children’s movie.

TriStar Pictures believed they had the surest of things when they hired Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to make the first Hollywood "Godzilla" flick. The duo had just delivered the biggest film of 1996 in "Independence Day," and appeared poised to become a blockbuster brand name on par with Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. Every studio in town wanted to make their next smash hit. But this is where the trouble started: TriStar wanted Emmerich and Devlin to make its next smash hit.
The 1998 iteration of "Godzilla" did not originate with Emmerich and Devlin. TriStar came very close to greenlighting it in 1994 with Jan De Bont (hot off the success of "Speed") directing a screenplay by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio (who would eventually make their franchise fortune on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series), which would've placed it in direct competition with "Independence Day" during the summer of 1996. So this all felt awfully fortuitous.

Rob Zombie has said that for every one film project of his that moves forward, there are five potential projects that fall by the wayside. We haven’t heard of quite that many unmade Rob Zombie movies, but we have heard of several over the years that never got off the ground… and unfortunately, most of them sounded pretty interesting. A little over a year ago, Zombie had said he didn’t know what his next movie is going to be, but he did know what it’s not going to be: he won’t be continuing his Firefly franchise, and he doesn’t want to make a sequel to The Munsters (which was poorly received). So while he figures out his next cinematic move, we we have put together a list of Rob Zombie Movies We Want To See!

Universal is down a director for its next “Jurassic World” installment after negotiations with David Leitch went the way of the dinosaur. The parting is said to be amicable.
However, the breakdown in talks leaves the studio in search of a new filmmaker to take over one of its most popular franchises. A new movie in the “Jurassic World” series is currently in development at the studio, with David Koepp — who adapted the 1993 original “Jurassic Park” and its 1997 sequel “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” from Michael Crichton’s bestselling novels — set to write the screenplay. The project is expected to launch a fresh storyline (though something tells us hungry dinosaurs will still treat humanity like a charcuterie board in this one). It’s unclear if previous stars like Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum will be back trying to stay one step ahead of a Tyrannosaurus Rex’s jaws.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer, including the identities of the eliminated contestants.
It was a double elimination night for The Masked Singer, and two contestants got the axe during rock night.
Despite a rendition of “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” that got the audience and the judges going, Husky was first on the chopping block, sending Tiki and Sea Queen into the battle royale. After making it through several rounds of The Masked Singer, it’s hard to believe the artist behind this mask almost declined the chance to perform at all.
“My agent gave me a call and said that they wanted me on the show, and originally I said no,” Ginuwine told Deadline a few hours before his unmasking. Luckily, he had a change of heart.
“I’m pretty much a person [that likes] space to myself,” he said. “So I figured,...

The following article contains major spoilers for the novels Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror and The Trench, as well as the feature films The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench.
One year before Steven Spielberg made us all afraid to go into the water, Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel Jaws took the literary world by storm. Nearly fifty years after publication it remains one of the most popular examples of shark fiction with few titles entering the waters of its elite circle. One such novel is Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten.
Published in 1997, this sci-fi horror brings to life Otodus megalodon, a prehistoric relative of the great white shark estimated to stretch up to 65 feet in length. The novel pits retired rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham in the movies) against this mammoth beast after it escapes from a warmer pocket of water near the Mariana Trench.

The following contains major spoilers for The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench.
Sharksploitation movies live and die based on the strength of their bite. In order to make us afraid to go in the water, genre filmmakers usually deploy a barrage of visual and practical effects to bring to life the ocean’s most feared predator: the shark. Of the many aquatic horror films to hit the screen, few have featured teeth so big and vicious as The Meg.

Running out of human adversaries who can square off with him, action star Jason Statham has once again decided to punch gigantic prehistoric sharks as Meg 2: The Trench, the sequel to the 2018 monster action flick Meg, has been released in theaters worldwide. Like the first installment, the sequel is also an adaptation of Steve Alten’s Megalodon-based novels, in this context, “The Trench,” and does a decent job of staying true to the source material quite unexpectedly, given how the previous movie ended.
However, despite having the very basic responsibility of delivering a no-nonsense, run-of-the-mill summer spectacle, Meg 2 fumbles miserably as it falls victim to extremely clichéd characterization, dragged storytelling, and a horribly patchwork third act. Annoying kids constantly jeopardizing the lives of others, Poc scientists reduced to comic relief, any real sense of trepidation washed off with poorly CGI’d creatures, unnecessary and bland humor—every single...

The conflict between nature and nurture has been a prevalent discourse in literature since bygone era, and the anime scene is no exception in this regard. More often than not, shounen narratives introduce the quintessential ‘chosen one’ protagonist representing nature as opposed to the skill honed to perfection, a product of circumstance rivaling nature, where nature’s dominance will prevail irrefutably. The first part of Season two of Netflix’s Baki Hanma brings out a subversive take on the trope, which is either a result of the self-aware mockery of the shounen genre or a blatant effort to take the over-the-top nature too seriously, and we are betting on the first possibility.
The previous season of Baki Hanma had established the greatness of the Hanma bloodline by introducing Yujiro Hanma, aka the Ogre, as the strongest person in the world and his son, Baki, as the strongest high schooler. Due to unknown reasons,...

Jurassic Park was nothing short of a phenomenon when it arrived in cinemas back in June 1993. Like Robert Muldoon being pursued by a pack of velociraptors, there was simply no escaping the clutches of what was a cultural phenomenon. But while much of the focus was on Steven Spielberg’s movie and its heady mix of stunning special effects and a shirtless Jeff Goldblum, what helped give Jurassic Park that extra bit of bite at the box office was the astonishing amount of merchandising surrounding the film.
Jurassic Park was ubiquitous that summer, whether it was the iconic Kenner line of toys featuring familiar characters from the film apart from Lex (blame Jurassic patriarchy), the Sega Genesis game that let you play as a raptor chomping on foolish humans, or the bizarre line of salami and beef jerky products that hit store shelves, life found a way.

Jurassic Park, based on Michael Crichton’s novel, spawned five blockbuster sequels as well as a multitude of spin-off games, toys, novels, and multiple animated television shows. It features a theme park housing de-extincted dinosaurs that break out of their confines and cause havoc. Underpinning the plot is clever genetic engineering that has allowed the Park’s scientists to assume they could control all aspects of the dinosaurs’ development, including their sex, much to their later horror when it becomes apparent such control was never possible. The film franchise has taken an average of over $1 billion dollars at the box office,...

Apple TV+’s groundbreaking Prehistoric Planet will return for season two on May 22, 2023. Ahead of its premiere, the streaming service released the first teaser trailer for the award-winning natural history event series.
Season two will feature dinosaurs that have never been seen on the screen, including:
Isisaurus – An Indian sauropod that made its home in an extreme volcanic region known as the Deccan Traps, laying eggs in volcanic heated terrain. Pectinodon – a fierce hunter and fond parent, this bird-like North American feathered dinosaur was part of the troodontid family. A sharp-clawed, long-legged predator, it was an adaptable hunter, its teeth and jaws suggesting that many sorts of small animals would have been on the menu. Quetzalcoatlus and Hatzegopteryx – The biggest creatures ever to soar the skies, these gargantuan pterosaurs (prehistoric flying reptiles) were the size of a giraffe or small aircraft and are some of “Prehistoric Planet’s” most charismatic characters.

In 1962, artists Wally Wood and Norman Saunders painted out a series of horrifically violent trading cards featuring large-brained alien critters attacking Earth, gleefully killing the U.S. soldiers, severing people's heads, and using their advanced technology to grow Earth's insects into murderous monsters. Called "Mars Attacks!," the trading cards were numbered and, when arranged properly, told a linear story of the whole Martian invasion, and how Mars, nearing an explosive cataclysm, needed to invade Earth for purposes of recolonization. The Martian invasion was followed a successful Earth counterstrike back on Mars, wherein a human force blew up the Martian cities and killed the disgusting little monsters once and for all. Then Mars explodes.
The "Mars Attacks!" cards were most certainly inappropriate for children, so of course kids wanted them right away. Because of the violent images on the cards, many concerned parents groups successfully sued to have them removed from comic book stores.

We should all take a moment to appreciate that, in 2023, a movie about a bear hopped up on cocaine took social media by storm, a bonkers masterpiece about the multiverse won best picture, and we got a movie about Adam Driver fighting dinosaurs. Who says cinema is dead?
"65" centers on a space pilot named Mills (Driver), who hails from the distant planet Somaris. On the way home from an exploratory mission, his ship is bombarded by asteroids and crash lands on Earth ... 65 million years ago. With the only other survivor, Koa (Arianna Greenblatt), Mills journeys across treacherous prehistoric terrain to reach his escape pod, dodging carnivorous dinosaurs and racing against an impending meteor strike the whole way.
Critics have been less than kind to "65," but the mere fact that we have a big-budget film about dinosaurs that's not focused on Chris Pratt or weaponized locusts is a cause for celebration.

They were big enough to bring down a Tyrannosaurus Rex, so you can imagine what they would do to humans if they were still around. Cousins to the Great White, the Megalodon emerged from the depths nearly twenty years ago in Steve Alten's Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. With a special expanded edition of Meg hitting shelves this week, we caught up with Alten to discuss the new version of Meg, Eli Roth's upcoming film adaptation of his beloved book, and much more.
It’s been nearly 20 years since your groundbreaking killer shark thriller Meg was published, and to celebrate the occasion, Viper Press is releasing a special expanded edition of the novel. What new content can fans expect to see in this new version of Meg?

Can’t wait for “The Good Dinosaur,” Pixar fans? The animation studio just released a couple clips to tide you over until the movie’s release later this month. Both clips feature the film’s Tyrannosaurus rex family, led by Butch, voiced by Sam Elliott. Kudos to the folks that made that stellar casting choice. Here’s Butch telling campfire stories to his kids and the young, far from home Apatosaurus named Arlo. That clip and the one below were inspired by the time “Good Dino” director Peter Sohn and his fellow filmmakers spent with a rancher family in Wyoming during a research trip. After a day of hard work on the ranch, the family told Sohn gritty stories of their adventures around a campfire. And the next clip was inspired by Sohn’s attempt to help out the family with their cattle ranching duties — first, difficult step: understanding what the hell your instructions are.

Since deleted, footage and images confirmed that Cryptic Studios Seattle was working on a Jurassic World videogame tie-in...
Twenty or so years ago, the release of Jurassic World would have been accompanied by a tie-in videogame, probably published by Ocean Software, and almost certainly taking the form of a side-scrolling platform game where you controlled a 32-pixel-high incarnation of Chris Pratt.
In fact, rumours circled back in June that the now defunct developer Cryptic Studios Seattle was working on just such a blockbuster tie-in. There's now plenty of evidence to suggest that the rumours were true. A few hours ago, a video was discovered on YouTube which showed some of the game's dinosaurs in full, walking action. That video was quickly pulled.
Fansite Jurassic World also found lots of dinosaur-related assets in the online portfolios of former Cryptic artists; although they're not explicitly labelled as being from the Jurassic World tie-in,...

Throughout the decades, films have given us many evil master plans by movie baddies out to achieve their nefarious goals via elaborate schemes. Some of them are brilliant but sometimes, we witness a scheme that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. For every ingenious plan, there’s a poorly thought-out dud of an idea that leaves you wondering if this guy is just begging to fail. Cinelinx looks at 5 movie villain schemes that were self-defeating.

Coming to the expanded Marvel Universe is the new title "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur," from co-writers Amy Reeder and Brandon Montclare, and artist Natacha Bustos, which pairs Jack Kirby's original creation, the red Tyrannosaurus Rex (Devil Dinosaur) with teenager Lunella Lafayette, a character described by Reeder as a "female Inspector Gadget - only this time, she also knows what she’s doing." Hoping to attract readers of all ages, the comics creators tell Entertainment Weekly: "[Editor] Mark [Paniccia] and I were talking about how whenever people come in with young kids, or even just for Mark’s own kids, we don’t have that many publications...

After busting through a Tyrannosaurus Rex-sized box office milestone to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time, Jurassic World has finally cemented its already-assured status as the first chapter in a rebooted Jurassic Park franchise for Universal. The studio announced today that a sequel to Jurassic World will be released on Friday, June 22, 2018.
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, the new faces of the franchise, will reprise their roles as Velociraptor trainer Owen Grady and park operations manager Claire Dearing, respectively. Colin Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World, and Derek Connolly, who rewrote the script, will work together to pen the script for a follow-up.
More News From The Web
Steven Spielberg remains involved alongside Trevorrow as an executive producer, while Frank Marshall is returning to produce. Trevorrow has stated that he does not plan to return to helm the sequel, having said long before this announcement:
“Jurassic Park is like Star Wars.

Leading up to the release of Jurassic World, a large number of YouTube content creators tied their channels into the movie through dinosaur-themed videos. Perhaps the best of all saurian YouTube videos came from Polish prankster Sylwester Wardega, who used detailed dinosaur costumes to scare Jurassic World star Chris Pratt.
Wardega, whose YouTube channel has more than 3.1 million subscribers, is best known as the man behind “Mutant Giant Spider Dog,” a prank that went massively viral (to the tune of more than 140 million views) and ended 2014 as one of the most popular videos on all of YouTube. In a recent follow-up, Wardega and his team once again used lifelike costumes to scare the living daylights out of unsuspecting passersby, but this time, they donned dinosaurs get-ups in order to promote Jurassic World, which recently set box office records during its first weekend in theaters.
Wardega, however, was not satisfied by scaring civilians.

It doesn't matter how many times you watch Jurassic Park (thanks, ITV2!), Steven Spielberg's '90s dinosaur classic still has the ability to conjure up feelings of awe and wonder.
22 years on from Jurassic Park's original release - and with sequel Jurassic World in cinemas now - we go back to where it all began to pick out the best moments from the trailblazing blockbuster.
1. "Welcome to Jurassic Park!"
Spielberg keeps Jurassic Park's big dino reveal under wraps so that the lead characters - Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) - discover the prehistoric characters as the audience does. "Welcome to Jurassic Park!" Richard Attentborough's John Hammond exclaims as we watch a pair of Brontosauri striding majestically through a lake.
2. "I'm simply saying that life finds a way."

There are significant references throughout the film to 1993’s “Jurassic Park,” which sparked the series and changed the movie business. Jurassic World
Written by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Colin Trevorrow & Derek Connolly
Directed by Colin Trevorrow
USA, 2015
On the strength of his indie charmer, Safety Not Guaranteed, there was hope that director Colin Trevorrow might deliver something new and interesting with Jurassic World. Sadly, it seems the Jurassic Park franchise is a swirling vortex of mediocrity from which no filmmaker can escape. By the time it reaches its gloriously-daffy climactic battle, you’ve lost all interest in the computer-generated nonsense and pointless sub-plots. On a positive note; if San Andreas was too intense for you, Jurassic World might be right up your alley.
Summer blockbusters are traditionally safe and boring. Jurassic Park films are traditionally safe and boring. It should come as no surprise, then, that Jurassic World is safe and boring. Still, it’s a bit shocking to see such a cluttered and lackluster effort, especially given all the talent involved.

Dinosaurs are definitely some of the coolest things to ever walk the earth, so it’s no surprise that cinema is so obsessed with them. Killer lizards have graced the silver screen for decades, squaring off against King Kong, humans, and of course, other dinosaurs.
With Jurassic World hitting the big screen this week, we thought we would let you test your knowledge on how well you know your dinosaur movies. Every major dinosaur has had its moment on film, including the stegosaurus, the brontosaurus, the triceratops, and of course, the revered Tyrannosaurus Rex. Jurassic World will see the introduction of a new, fictional dino: the Indominus Rex, built to be bigger and better than the T. Rex. Of course, a genetically modified dinosaur can only mean trouble, as Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and the rest of the cast find out.

Jurassic Park
Written by Michael Crichton and David Koepp
Directed by Steven Spielberg
USA, 1993
“What have they got in there, King Kong”, quips Dr. Ian Malcolm as a computer-driven Land Cruiser slides along its railed path through a massive wooden gate that is designed to look prehistoric, welcoming them to “Jurassic Park”. Billionaire John Hammond has done the impossible and brought dinosaurs back from extinction—then built a park around them as cheesy as any zoo attraction or Disney theme park.
For many who came of age around 1993, both the novel and the movie Jurassic Park are likely to both be pop culture milestone experiences. The film is a beautiful marriage of material and talent, bringing to life a childhood dinosaur fantasy with state of the art filmmaking technology. Steven Spielberg had been refining his instincts as both a director and producer of some of the best family-friendly adventures of the previous decade,...

Finally being unleashed this week, Jurassic World returns us to the world of Isla Nublar – the setting for Steven Spielberg’s incredible Jurassic Park, promising to explore just what’s happened in the twenty-two years since John Hammond first played God and birthed the return of the dinosaurs.
Jurassic World looks to up the ante by throwing in a new hybrid dinosaur which makes the Tyrannosaurus rex look like a pussy cat.
Ignoring events from The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3, the new movie instead serves as a direct sequel to the original, allowing the filmmakers significant breathing room and a great opportunity to inject new life into the franchise. But with so much love and treasured childhood memories for the first movie, expectations for Jurassic World are sky high.

First published back in 1997 and with a film adaptation stuck in development hell pretty much ever since, it has been frankly years since there's been any movement on the film adaptation of Steve Alten's 1997 giant prehistoric shark novel "Meg".
Yesterday, The Tracking Board reported that the project is now at Warner Bros. Pictures and is reportedly moving forward there as a "priority development".
The story follows two men from opposite points of view that are forced to band together in order to neutralize the terror that’s threatening the California coast - the Carcharodon megalodon, a giant prehistoric shark that could literally eat a Tyrannosaurus Rex in seconds.
At last report, Dean Georgaris ("The Manchurian Candidate") had penned the latest draft of the script. The report also lists Colin Wilson ("Jurassic Park," "Avatar") and Belle Avery as producers.

This November, Disney/Pixar invites us all to travel back to an alternate timeline. One where the dinosaur-killing asteroid whiffed, leaving the "terrible lizards" to reign unfettered as the dominant species on Earth. "The Good Dinosaur" follows the story of an Apatosaurus named Arlo and his unlikely human friend. Traveling through a harsh and mysterious land, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears to discover what he is capable of. An important message for any kid (or adult) told through the medium of dinosaur, because dinosaurs are cool as heck! Considering Disney has a history of fudging the timeline with dinosaurs — looking at you Stegosaurus fighting a Tyrannosaurus Rex in "Fantasia" — it should come as no surprise to see Jurassic-era Apatosaurus rubbing elbows with late-Cretaceous Parasaurolophus. After all, the entire premise of "The Good Dinosaur" hinges on suspending disbelief that evolution would still lead to large mammals and Homo sapiens,...

It has been 22 years since “Jurassic Park” captured the imagination of a generation. In that time, it has been absorbed into pop culture via quotes such as “Hold on to your butts” and an irrational love of carnivorous pack predators that would just as soon eat your intestines as look at you. But while the important takeaway from the movie is obviously that Jeff Goldblum should always languish shirtless in every film — and that bringing species back to life that have been extinct for millions of years is a terrible idea — “Jurassic World” is full of other lessons...if you know where to look for them. Lessons like... #1. It’s okay to threaten obnoxious children with dinosaur fossils. There are two types of children in the world: those who love paleontology and those who are wrong. “Jurassic Park” wastes no time in letting the audience know how it feel about the latter.
