Agnieszka Holland’s refugee drama The Green Border has taken the top prize for best film at the Polish Film Awards. The black-and-white feature, which looks at the inhumane treatment of refugees trying to cross the natural border between Belarus and Poland, premiered to critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival last year but came under attack from Poland’s far-right government, which called the movie “Nazi propaganda” for its supposedly negative depiction of Polish police and border guards. The political attacks are thought to have influenced the Polish Oscar committee’s decision not to put Green Border forward as Poland’s best international film contender this year, instead selecting Dk and Hugh Welchman’s Hugh animated literary adaptation The Peasants (which did not get nominated).

To say I was excited for Invincible Season 2 Part 2 would be an understatement. Since its debut in 2021, Robert Kirkman and Prime Video’s dark and brutal yet consistently earnest take on the superhero genre has been by far one of its best works; a major standout in a market filled to bursting with superhero media and without a doubt the best the genre has been on television to date.
And Season 2’s first half continued and expanded on the solid foundations set by Season 1 with great character work, clever explorations of the multiverse, and the show’s trademark epic and brutal action sequences. And the cliffhanger ending with the legendary Clancy Brown as General Kreeg taking Omni-Man prisoner? Who wouldn’t immediately want to know what happens next?
I am happy to report that Season 2’s second half delivers on these promises in spades. A truly exemplary work of superhero...

Renowned for his versatility and dedication to his craft, Russell Crowe is no stranger to transforming himself for the roles he undertakes, and it was not any different for the 2013 film Man of Steel. Despite having a relatively brief role in the movie, Crowe still had to follow a rigorous six-month workout regimen to prepare for his character. And the actor opened up about this intensive workout routine in a recent interview with People.

Can you believe it's been 16 months since the Resident Alien Season 2 finale?
Even if you watched it all again as I did, parts of Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 1 feel a little off-kilter because so much happened just before the world came crashing down, making us wait so long for the series to return.
While jumping back into the story requires a little Patience (ha!), listening to Harry Vanderpseigel's inner thoughts felt like coming home.
Part of what makes Resident Alien such a success relies on Harry's soliloquies, those moments when, despite everything he does to the contrary in life, he proves how much he has learned and processed about human nature.
Working in a group like a human is not efficient. Yesterday, I spent half the day searching my email for data sequencing numbers, but all I found were fantasy football requests. If I'm going to defeat Joseph, I...

Anyone active on X (formerly Twitter) since its acquisition by Elon Musk in late 2022 knows that hate speech, misinformation and extremism is rampant on the platform. But a new report from the Tech Transparency Project, a digital research nonprofit, reveals that terrorist leaders received paid verification badges and premium features on the site, possibly violating U.S. sanctions — as well as X’s own policies.

Chrissy Beppo’s baby daddy is officially back in action. Erik Valdez on Tuesday posted a selfie from his trailer on the set of Superman & Lois, confirming his return in the CW drama’s upcoming fourth and final season.
One of the last remaining original scripted shows on the network, Superman & Lois‘ Season 4 renewal came with a few major caveats. Not only was its traditional episode order reduced, but only five actors would be returning as series regulars, leaving fans to wonder how much of the show’s ensemble cast — including Valdez as Kyle Cushing — would still have a presence on the show.

On October 23, 1941, "Dumbo" soared into audience members' hearts. With his wide, bright blue eyes and floppy ears as big as his whole body, he quickly stood out as one of the cutest Disney characters ever. Sadly, the playful baby elephant is mocked by others, referred to as "Dumbo" instead of Jumbo Jr., and ridiculed for his oversized ears which give him the ability to fly. In the book "The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney," author Michael Barrier notes that the Walt Disney movies "Pinocchio" and "Fantasia" failed at the box office because World War II disrupted the European markets. A successful film was crucial for the studio's continued survival.
Working with a small budget, the filmmakers came up with what Bosley Crowther of The New York Times called "the most genial, the most endearing, the most completely precious cartoon feature film ever to emerge from the magical brushes of Walt Disney's wonder-working artists.

Bob Edwards, a Peabody-winning National Radio Hall of Famer who anchored NPR’s Morning Edition for nearly a quarter-century before moving to satellite radio, died Saturday. He was 76. National Public Radio announced his death but did not provide details.

Admixing professional and personal life might result in disastrous consequences, and in the sixth episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, it is most apparent from the mistakes of the titular organization’s former chief, Lieutenant Lee Shaw. After steering clear of the past timeline for two consecutive episodes, “Monarch” turns back the clock to pinpoint the one event that changed the course of the human-titan correlation.
In the previous episode, after getting released from Monarch’s Alaska outpost, Cate suggests May and Kentaro head to her home, San Francisco, which was nearly destroyed during the battle between Godzilla and M.U.T.O., to possibly learn about Hiroshi’s whereabouts. After revisiting her traumatic past by venturing inside the dilapidated area of the city, Cate learns about her father’s presumed waypoint towards Africa with the help of May and Kentaro and reconciles with her mother, Caroline. Apple TV+’s first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters continues with episode six, which, unlike episode five, revisits the past and brings Keiko, Bill, and a younger Lee Shaw back into the story. And after an episode that was devoid of monsters – except for a brief glimpse at Godzilla – episode six serves up new scenes with the gigantic monster.
Washington D.C. – The Summer of 1955
Dressed to the nine, Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) escorts Dr. Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto) to the American Defense Industry Federal Summer Ball. Their goal: convince the powers that be to continue funding Monarch.
Lee’s been promoted to captain, and General Puckett (Christopher Heyerdahl) heaps praise on a man he seems to now consider his protégé. The other officers are eager to hear about Monarch but less eager to speak with Keiko.

In “Downwind,” a documentary executive produced by Matthew Modine, directors Mark Shapiro and Douglas Brian Miller chronicle the lethal effects that nuclear testing on American soil has had on U.S. citizens.
The Oscar hopeful reveals that from 1951 to 1992, Mercury, Nevada, was the site for the testing of 928 large scale nuclear weapons. Wind dispersed radioactive fallout from those atmospheric blasts (mushroom clouds) and underground testing (venting) in a seemingly unpredictable manner to people living “downwind.” The United States Department of Justice defines “downwinders,” also known as lab rats, as human beings who live in counties located downwind from Nevada Test Site in the states of Utah, Nevada and Arizona.
The film explains that the radiation led to various diseases, mainly cancer. Shapiro and Miller also highlight how Hollywood star John Wayne and numerous members of the cast and crew of the 1956 movie “The Conqueror” died, arguably, of cancer due to...

So-called "Dad Shows" don't get better than "Reacher" season 1. While we'll always have a special place in our hearts for Christopher McQuarrie's "Jack Reacher" film adaptation, Alan Ritchson's Reacher is the embodiment of Lee Child's original creation that Tom Cruise's iteration never could be. With his square jaw and strapping build, you could almost believe Ritchson's take on the ex-army detective turned ramblin' man sprang directly from the pages of Child's original books. The show around him moves with the same confidence as Reacher strutting from town to town, delivering a thoroughly compelling piece of pulpy crime fiction by way of power fantasy.
For season 2 (which Valerie Ettenhofer reviewed for /Film), the show will draw from Child's 11th Reacher novel, "Bad Luck and Trouble," after season 1 adapted his debut book, "Killing Floor." That suggests "Reacher" is taking the same anthology-like approach as Child's original novels -- meaning,...

Director Yorgos Lanthimos and cinematographer Robbie Ryan, not unlike the family at the center of “Poor Things,” like to experiment.
In their previous collaboration on “The Favourite,” Lanthimos and Ryan trained the audience’s eyes to function like unctuous couriers through extreme wide lenses and a slinking set of camera movements that matched the actors’ physicality. But the approach to period and the techniques Ryan and Lanthimos allow (and don’t allow) themselves on “Poor Things” show a whole other gear of what the pair can do visually.
In this latest film — based on the Alasdair Gray novel about Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), brought back to life thanks to a timely transplant of her unborn infant’s brain into her own skull (for science!) — there’s still plenty of extreme wides and a distinctive fish-eye look that heightens key moments. But Ryan curated a pared-down set that makes the world...

Bobi Wine, the subject of Bobi Wine: The People’s President, said he hopes the National Geographic Documentary Films doc educates international communities who have supported Uganda’s dictator Yoweri Museveni.
Wine had the support of the Ugandan people to be elected president in 2021, yet Museveni remains in power. Wine considers Museveni worse than his predecessor, Idi Amin, by the sheer fact that Amin was only in power for eight years and Museveni for 37.
“Amin was not educated,” Wine said at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Documentary. “Museveni was a smart dictator that for a very long time has got the international community backing him. I would like to believe that they are doing that ignorantly. I hope this film opens up the reality of General Museveni to the international communities.”

Do external influences like environment and situations factor more in shaping a person’s entire worldview? Or is it the inherent willingness to give in to a side—freedom of choice—that plays the decisive role? The prequel feature of the Hunger Games trilogy, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, adapted from the novel of the same name written by Suzanne Collins, asks these age-old questions as it traces back the origins of Coriolanus Snow, the former President of Panem whose reign of tyranny was ended by ‘Mockingjay’ Katniss Everdeen and her comrades.
The key attractions of the main Hunger Games series were how the central class conflict intrigue was showcased through interesting characters, theatrical flair, unique dystopian world-building, and the brutal yet vivid open-world battle royale signifying the titular game. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, however, misses out on most of these aspects in its effort to jam-pack...

Never say never. Former Dukes of Hazzard stars John Schneider, Catherine Bach and Tom Wopat reunited with fellow castmates Byron Cherry, Jeff Altman and Rick Hurst at Gallatin Comic Con 2023 in Tennessee recently where talk of a possible reboot of the hit ’80s TV comedy series surfaced.
“As far as a Dukes reunion,” Bach teased in an interview with Fox News Digital, “anything is possible.”
Bach starred as Daisy Duke, Schneider as Bo Duke and Wopat as Luke Duke in the hit action-comedy-drama series that aired for seven seasons on CBS from 1979 to 1985. The series, inspired by the 1975 film Moonrunners about a bootlegger family, revolved around the adventures of cousins Bo and Luke, modern-day Robin Hoods who continually tried to outwit a corrupt sheriff and “greedy rich, city slickers.”
The series also was not without controversy due to images of the Confederate flag that had been used in the show.

Mappa released the 17th episode of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen today, and the animation house is continuing to show off just how amazing it can be with each passing episode. In the last episode, Sukuna laid waste to half of the city as he gave a beatdown to Jogo before incinerating him, while the cursed technique used by Haruta Shigemo blindsided Megumi Fushiguro out of nowhere. Now, Sukuna is about to run wild in Itadori’s body as Fushiguro prepares to fight a new enemy.
Spoilers Ahead
What Does Fushiguro Summon?
The latest episode opens with a flashback of Yuji Itadori’s life, an event that greatly influenced the person he wished to become—the dying wish of his grandfather. Before passing, Itadori’s grandfather wanted the teenager to do good in life, to save lives, and to help people. What Itadori considered the ultimate goal of his...

This article contains spoilers for Legendary’s “MonsterVerse” films.
Apple+‘s newest blockbuster series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has now arrived to flesh out the larger than life “MonsterVerse.” Legacy Pictures has been building this shared universe filled with infamous kaiju ever since the reboot of Godzilla in 2014, and since, has given us all the classic monsters including Ghidora, Mothra, Rodan and of course, Kong.
Legacy of Monsters helps fill the little gaps in the periphery of the story, fleshing out the humans who choose to find, study, and often protect these massive creatures. At the center of it all has always been the imposing consortium known as “Monarch.” With all the giant-sized kaiju-chaos that can often be the most memorable moments of these monster movies, it’s understandable if Monarch shrinks in the presence of the true stars of the show. Not to worry, though, because we’re about...

Wyatt Russell in ‘Monarch Legacy of Monsters’ episode 2 (Photo Credit: Apple TV+)
Episode two slips into a time period that Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters didn’t visit in episode one and reveals how Lee, Keiko, and Bill met. The second episode also introduces Kurt Russell as the older version of Lee Shaw, played in the ‘50s by his son, Wyatt.
Episode two, “Departure,” begins with Lt. Lee Shaw in big trouble in Manila, circa 1952, after getting into a fistfight with his fellow soldiers. Lee claims the fight picked him, but it doesn’t matter. General Puckett (Christopher Heyerdahl) informs him of a new assignment: observing and protecting a Japanese scientist.
It’s dangerous – a man has already been lost – and Puckett warns Lee that he needs to take his new assignment seriously.

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway earlier this year, many Netflix shows were left with fates up in the air.
Now that the strikes are over and Hollywood is getting back to normal, the series won't be making the cut for additional seasons are being revealed.
Deadline revealed Wednesday that Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall will not be returning.
Shadow & Bone is the highest profile of the five shows, having made it to a second season.
Despite the freshman season garnering considerable buzz, Shadow & Bone Season 2 launched earlier this year to little fanfare.
Based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows Alina Starkov, who is now on the run.
The series stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik...

Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode one introduces David Oyelowo as the legendary lawman whose life was dedicated to protecting the peace in the Old West. Reeves was credited with arresting over 3,000 criminals while serving as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, and it’s not a stretch to believe he might have been one of the inspirations for The Lone Ranger.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves was created and written by Chad Feehan, based on the books Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves: The Bass Reeves Trilogy, Book One and Hell on the Border: The Bass Reeves Trilogy, Book Two by Sidney Thompson. Episode one focuses on the last days of Bass Reeves’ enslavement and the time he spent with the Seminoles, with David Oyelowo delivering a powerful performance as the runaway slave turned gunslinging lawman.

A big twist was teased for My Adventures With Superman Season 2.
While the freshman series didn’t conclude long ago, fans are already hungry for more. However, that shouldn’t be surprising given how the finale teased the introduction of General Zod and Brainiac.
While hyping the next batch of episodes, writer Josephine Campbell previously teased how “There’s so much stuff in Season 2 that [she] thinks is gonna blow people’s minds.”

It’s hard to believe, but we’re about to be treated to the penultimate episode of Loki‘s second season! After waiting for so long to catch up with the God of Mischief’s continuing adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are only two episodes left until we find out what Marvel has (or hasn’t) got in store for Loki beyond this series.
