The sins of Norman Osborn have returned to their rightful host, unleashing the Green Goblin on the world once more. Peter Parker had been planning for this eventuality and managed to corner Norman in his lab, where Spider-Man was able to even the playing field to get the upper hand.
Unfortunately, the Green Goblin had a trick up his own sleeve. When Peter had taken the sins of Norman Osborn into himself months ago, his twisted persona preserved itself via the Winker Device, brainwashing Peter to switch back to it when a code phrase is said.
Green Goblin activated the phrase and brought Spider-Goblin to the forefront of Peter's psyche. In today's Amazing Spider-Man #51, we see the Sinister Six plotting to take revenge on The Living Brain.
Kraven the Hunter tries to warn the Six of the threat Osborn's sins pose to them, only to be mocked by his teammates.

Stan Lee was never afraid to go places with his superheroes like Captain America and Iron Man from his early days at Marvel Comics. This confidence seeped down to every comic writer at the company who often subverted their fan expectation with certain storylines. However, there were several controversial choices that writers had to make, which did not impress the fandom.
Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics made some controversial choices in its decades-long storytelling
Some writers quickly realized their mistakes and figured out a way around them, while others chose to run with their choice to see where it took them. The latter choice either brought them new fans or angered the existing ones.

This article contains spoilers for "Madame Web."
While Miles Morales is thriving with an Oscar-winning film and an Oscar-nominated sequel, Peter Parker's future in film is uncertain. After the end of Tom Holland's trilogy, the partnership between Marvel and Sony has been nebulous. Sure, there was that "Morbius" post-credits scene, but things have been very quiet when it comes to the future of Tom Holland as Peter Parker.
It doesn't help that, in the time since "No Way Home," Sony has been making moves in their own universe, from the upcoming "Kraven the Hunter," hopes of another go at "Sinister Six," and even a live-action Miles Morales movie. All of this indicates that Sony wants a big spidey-future that does not depend on Marvel Studios. This includes "Madame Web," the latest movie that seems like it should involve Spider-Man, yet doesn't. The movie focuses on a different spider-powered hero...

In “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” our hero Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is transported to a dimension where dozens of other Spider-heroes reside — or at least intersect like threads on a web.
There’s Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), the leader of this Spider Society. His right hand is Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), who shares the same superhero name as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld). You won’t confuse them though, as each hero has his/her own distinct character design and animation style.

The Spider-Man family of media is synonymous with some of the best actors in the business. The movies are iconic thanks to the stars who bring the stories to life, and the cartoons are legendary for some of the best line deliveries you’ll ever hear. However, unlike properties such as Batman, no one actor has truly embodied the wall-crawler or his amazing friends (or deadly enemies). So, Insomniac Games had their work cut out for them when it came time to cast for Marvel’s Spider-Man.
To say Insomniac knocked it out of the park with their selected voices would be an understatement, so of course they were primed to return for subsequent entries, including Spider-Man 2. The game is full of returning characters, many of whom are voiced by the same actors, but the main selling point are all the new faces. During the game, players will get...

Even as superhero movies took Hollywood and the box office by storm in the 2010s, it has proven difficult for fans of those movies to get into the source material comics. If you're a Spider-Man fan eagerly waiting for "Beyond The Spider-Verse," though, pay attention to a new comic swinging its way to stores in January 2024. It will be the easiest jumping-on point for you in a long while.
That comic is "Ultimate Spider-Man," first announced via Marvel's Twitter account on September 20, 2023. It will be an ongoing series written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Marco Checchetto. The talent involved was already enough to pique comic fans' interest (and we'll explain why it should rouse yours' too soon). More details about "Ultimate Spider-Man were confirmed at New York Comic-Con this past weekend — at a panel attended by comics outlet Aipt, Hickman said the comic will be about a middle-aged Spider-Man,...

A line of dialogue by Andy Samberg's Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider was removed and replaced in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Samberg's brief appearance in Spider-Verse 2 as the Scarlet Spider left a lasting impact on fans. So much so that Sony Pictures celebrated the character on social media, comparing him to Ryan Gosling's Ken from Barbie.
Ben Reilly is not the first character to have lines of dialogue altered for the home release of the film. Hailee Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy had an emotional line removed and a powerful Miles Morales speech was cut short.

This Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse article contains spoilers.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse eased us into the multiversal weirdness. After introducing Miles, we finally met Peter B. Parker, followed by Spider-Gwen. Soon, things went nuts with a noirish detective Spider-Man, an anime girl from the future, and a cartoon pig. Once all that was done, we got to see a futuristic Spider-Man 2099 interact with a badly animated version with an obsession with pointing.
But this year’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse goes absolutely crazy with Spider-Man variants. Some are throwaway designs for the movie, but there are also many who are deep cuts from Marvel Comics history. Here’s a guide to all the new arachnid heroes and heroines in Across the Spider-Verse:
Spider-Woman
Starting with the supporting cast, we have a take on Jessica Drew as Spider-Woman, a mainstay heroine in Marvel Comics who was an Avenger and Agent of both Shield and Sword.

In the comics, aside from Miles Morales and two of Peter’s clones, Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker, one of the most fan-favorite characters to be introduced as Spider-Man’s legacy was Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099. Hailing from a world that is decades ahead of the main Marvel timeline, Miguel O’Hara was betrayed by his peers and found himself in a freak accident that gave him powers, which, motivated by the legend of the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, he put to good use. The character and its world were a refreshing cyberpunk-ish take on Spider-Man lore, and it was great to see the character present in the artistically vibrant spectacle of the Spider-Verse movies. In Across the Spider-Verse, Miguel plays a somewhat complex role in the overarching narrative of Spider-Verse, and his motivation, action, and future role in the Spidey multiverse will be the topic of discussion in this write-up.

This article contains Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse spoilers.
There was an audible gasp during my press screening of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. As has become common practice when watching a superhero movie, the entire audience sat glued to their seats throughout the long rolling credits for producer Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s follow-up to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Obviously, we were waiting for a post-credits stinger, as is the genre’s wont ever since Samuel L. Jackson first showed up rocking an eyepatch in Iron Man 15 years ago.
And yet, when the credits finished scrolling, there remained only darkness—and a promise that this story would not end until next year’s now eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The lack of post-credits scenes was thus further evidence that Lord and Miller, as well as directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, had little interest in...

Those who were reading Marvel Comics in the 1990s likely recall the Spider-Man Clone Saga with embarrassment. From 1994 all the way through 1996, Spider-Man was embroiled in an extensive plot involving a villain named the Jackal and a villainous scheme to flood the world with Spider-Man duplicates. The story involved a Peter Parker clone named Kaine, the death of Aunt May (!), and the discovery that one of Peter's clones had been alive, living as a drifter, since the 1970s.
The Clone Saga technically began in the 1970s. The Jackal, it turns out, was an ex-teacher of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy who was creepily in love with the latter. When Gwen died, he used his skills in cloning to bring her back from the dead. He also cloned Peter, just for fun I guess. In making the clone, though, the Jackal learned that Peter was Spider-Man, and immediately sought revenge on the original Spider-Man,...

June kicks off this weekend with another anticipated sequel, this one being “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” continuing on from the Oscar-winning animated feature from 2018. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
It was pretty apparent when Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” managed to gross $190 million domestically and roughly the same amount overseas, before winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, that the filmmakers would try to continue the story of Miles Morales, as voiced by Shameik Moore. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” continues Miles’ story as he reunites with Gwen Stacy (voiced by Halle Steinfeld) and the Jake Johnson-voiced “Peter B. Parker.” The sequel also introduces Oscar Isaac voicing Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099, and Issa Rae voicing Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, and it was just announced that Andy Samberg is voicing Ben Reilly aka Scarlet Spider with Karan Soni voicing Spider-Man India and Amandla Stenberg also voicing a role.

It was confirmed a little over a month ago that Scarlet Spider would be appearing in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," but his voice had been kept a secret until now. The character was first introduced in 1975 but was prominently featured during the Clone Saga of Spider-Man comics in the mid-1990s. This might sound radical on paper but received mixed-results in execution. The clone of Peter Parker went by the name Ben Reilly, donning a shredded Spidey hoodie over his super-suit while on the case.
As if Ben couldn't get any more painfully '90s, he also bleached his hair and had plenty of gnar-bro fashion accessories to try and capture the look of the time. Unfortunately, the storyline led to the reveal that Ben Reilly was the "original" Peter Parker, and I'm sure you can guess how fans reacted to the news. Spoiler Alert: they hated it. To be fair,...

The 2023 PlayStation Showcase was a bit of a disappointment. Sure, plenty of our predictions came true, but the whole event was a very “meh” affair. Quite frankly, the most exciting part of the showcase was the final game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and that’s mostly because its trailer showcased some actual gameplay. Despite the many new things we learned about the sequel in that trailer, though, it raised some new questions regarding Venom’s identity in the game.
Sony ended the PlayStation Showcase with a marvelous bang, pun definitely intended, by treating audiences to 12 uninterrupted minutes of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 footage. The video teased Kraven the Hunter as the main villain, a potentially larger world to explore that expands past Manhattan, and, most importantly of all, a Symbiote-infected Peter Parker. And where there’s a Black Suit Spider-Man, Venom isn’t far behind. But that raises an important...

We're a little over a week out from the release of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" — the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 Oscar-winning movie — and the first reactions to the film have arrived on social media. And according to critics who were lucky enough to catch an early screening, "Across the Spider-Verse" is "terrific," an "incredible accomplishment," and the "ultimate Spider-Man experience." As you might've expected, everyone is going ga-ga over the work put into the animation, noting how it's "impossible to see it all [and] experience it all in one sitting."
Collider's Steven Weintraub echoed that with his reaction: "Absolutely loved ['Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.'] Wanted to push pause about a hundred times to study the incredible artistry on display. Cannot recommend this film enough and already looking forward to seeing it again." Characters being highlighted include "Get Out" star Daniel Kaluuya's Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk who uses a guitar as a weapon,...

The makers of upcoming animated sequel "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" understand the myriad Spider-Men that have appeared in the character's history, and out of the 240 character models created for the film, many are Spider-People. With each new trailer, Spider-Fans have been keeping their eyes peeled, looking for the parallel Spider-Man they like best.
Most Spider-Fans will likely shake their heads in dismay, however, when you bring up the infamous Clone Saga. In mid-1990s Spider-Man comics, it was revealed that a supervillain called the Jackal had cloned Spider-Man in an effort to, I dunno, sow discord. One of the clones, going by the name Ben Reilly, continued to fight crime as a hero called the Scarlet Spider, a fellow who sported a ripped hoodie.
Natch: It would eventually be revealed that there was a mix-up, and Ben Reilly was actually the original Peter Parker. For a spell, Ben Reilly was the "main" Spider-Man.

The rap world is ever-changing, and 2022 showed us where we might be heading next. The year was full of solid releases from budding stars who set the stage for a lower-key sensibility within hip-hop. It was a year where fans turned away from the larger-than-life superstars towards more down-to-earth figures in the scene. The rise of homegrown acts like Babytron and newcomers Ice Spice proved that hip-hop’s new landscape is abundant. In today’s rap world, there’s something for everyone.

Miles Morales is about to encounter more Spider-People than he ever imagined. And thanks to a new poster for “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” we know that includes the Scarlet Spider and even Spidercat. But if you look closely, you’ll spot even more.
The image, released Tuesday morning, once again places Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales at the center of the action. But, where he’s upside down, the rest of the Spider-Verse is right side up, and staring directly at you. And like we said, there are a lot of them. They say if you live long enough you see everything come around full circle. Flairs, stonewashed jeans, Spider-Man first issues… I can’t even remember how many first issues of Spider-Man books I both have, and have read. Do we need another? To be fair, on this occasion, yes. The Ben Reilly storyline ended an era in a way, it’s Spidey’s 60th anniversary, and also John Romita Jr. is back home where he belongs. This time, a new first issue just feels right. I’m also pleased that Zeb Wells is writing, someone I feel is consistently underrated as a writer. He usually puts more into one issue than some writers do in a dozen. Think of him as the anti-Bendis. So, all the right pieces are on the board, but can it deliver?...

Retro certainly seems to be in the air at Marvel these days. After my last review, which was looking at the ‘new’ Silver Surfer book that is written and drawn by its old 90’s creative team, we now get J.M DeMatteis back writing Ben Reilly. Now, back in the day everybody hated Ben Reilly and the whole Clone Saga, myself included. Even Marvel had to row back on its original intent to make Ben Reilly the ‘original’ Peter Parker, and actually had Ben killed off to make the Clone Saga go away. He then got better. It was all as weird as it sounds. Time is a great healer it seems, as people have been greeting the return to the spotlight of Ben Reilly in his own book like the second coming. Me, I paid the entrance fee to see J.

Heroes have died in the comics before, but the thing about the comics is that there’s always a way for the heroes to come back, which they usually do. Spider-Man has died a couple of times in the comics, but it would appear that the plan this time is to ditch Peter Parker and let Ben Reilly, the clone of Peter, take over and see if he can do any better with the mantle of Spider-Man than Peter did. In other words, Peter Parker’s days might be numbered finally, and without any chance in the coming future to reverse that

Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Episode 6
So far, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 6 has been almost nothing but shtick. We’ve had the ‘50s horror movie episode, the ‘70s punk episode, the political thriller, the reality game show episode, and last week’s Disney princess episode. “Bishop’s Gambit” is the first episode of the season to not obviously be doing a bit, and by a weird coincidence, it also does maybe the best homage yet, while also doing exceptionally well by the characters and the season’s overarching plot. So par for the course for this show.
“Bishop’s Gambit” is all about accelerating the search for Sara. Mick and Kayla are on Bishop’s planet looking for her and Gary is trying to help Sara break out, while the rest of the gang is hunting down Amelia Earhart...

If being Venom was like being in the Beatles, then Peter Parker would be Pete Best. His stretch of time in the late-80s wearing his living, black costume is a staple of his history. Before it turned Eddie Brock into a box office giant, the symbiote made for a badass variant look for Spider-Man that still holds up to this day. It’s the ultimate story of how we can lose ourselves to power, even if a loved one beat you over the head with lessons about responsibility.
Over the years, Spider-Man did rejoin with the symbiote a few times, usually in the name of heroism. In Venomized, a Venom symbiote from another reality bonded to him for a little while. At the end of Dan Slott’s lengthy Amazing Spider-Man run, Eddie Brock let Spidey borrow the symbiote so he could fight the Red Goblin (Norman Osborn as Carnage). These days,...

Miles Morales is revisiting one of the more controversial storylines in Spider-Man history with Marvel Entertainment announcing that “Clone Saga” will begin in April’s issue of the Miles Morales: Spider-Man comic book series.
The original “Clone Saga” storyline ran from 1994 through 1996 across all of Marvel’s Spider-Man comic book series, with an increasingly complicated plot in which Peter Parker was revealed to be a clone of himself, only for the original — calling himself Ben Reilly — temporarily taking over as Spider-Man before it was subsequently revealed that Parker was the original, and Reilly the clone… but not before multiple additional clones ...

The Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (as no member of the general public will ever call it) is starting to take shape, with the almost as clunkily titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage set for release next year. And if you were wondering what the titular crimson symbiote might look like, some new fan art has now emerged offering an interpretation of how it could be brought to life.
Originating after Venom’s popularity resulted in the character morphing from a villain to an antihero, Carnage is also an extraterrestrial parasite who can bond with humans to create a symbiotic entity. When Eddie Brock was imprisoned after his campaign of retribution against Spider-Man was brought to an end, Venom created a spawn of itself which bonded with Brock’s cellmate, sadistic serial killer Cletus Kasady, who subsequently escaped and went on a murder spree with his newfound abilities.

The latest big screen adventure for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker isn’t even close to starting shooting yet having suffered a delay along with the rest of Marvel Studios’ Phase Four output, but rumors are already looking well beyond Spider-Man 3 and towards a potential future where Peter won’t even be the McU’s friendly neighborhood web-slinger anymore.
With Kevin Feige confirming that Miles Morales exists in the McU, fans have been hoping that the beloved character shows up sooner rather than later. Holland himself has already admitted he’s more than on board with the idea, too, although we’re not sure how he feels about the reports that Peter Parker will eventually be killed off and Miles will assume the mantle of Spider-Man on a permanent basis.

We all know Batman’s origin story. When his parents were gunned down by a mugger, Bruce Wayne dedicated his life to becoming a superhero so he could prevent tragedies like this one from happening again. But imagine if there had been a superhero around that alley that night who was able to save Bruce’s parents. He’d never have become Batman, right? Well, that’s actually what happened in, of all places, a Spider-Man comic.
In 1996’s The Amazing Spider-Man #411, from writer Tom DeFalco and penciller Mark Bagley, Ben Reilly’s Spider-Man – yes, this was part of the Clone Saga – is able to intervene when he witnesses a mugging taking place. The mugger puts a frightened family – consisting of a mother, father and son – at gunpoint to get at the woman’s pearl necklace. Thankfully, Reilly is able to web up the thief’s hands and sock him...

It’s been an emotionally draining few weeks for Spider-Man fans, and we imagine that the folks at Marvel Studios have been feeling pretty exhausted themselves. Nonetheless, speaking to Entertainment Weekly at D23, producer Kevin Feige offered a glass-half-full perspective on the situation, choosing to celebrate the five big screen appearances that the McU’s version of Spidey has had so far.
Chatting to the outlet, Feige showed nothing but positivity, saying that Spider-Man was never meant to last forever in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he’s grateful that the studio got to have him for as long as they did.
“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy. We got to make five films within the McU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there...

While Peter Parker himself has found much success in theaters lately, Sony is busy mining the rest of the Spider-Man mythos for all it’s worth. Venom kicked off a series of live-action movies based on other characters from Spidey’s neck of the woods, with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse exploring the different versions of the wall-crawler out there in animation.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been put in charge of expanding the franchise – officially titled Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters – in exciting ways on TV, too, though the studio has big ideas for the silver screen as well. We’re not yet sure what their plans are, but one new rumor may reveal a couple of projects in the works. Namely, vehicles for both Spider-Man 2099 and Scarlet Spider.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was my favorite film of 2018 and I’m excited to see franchise grow and see what’s in store for the sequel.
We already know that one major aspect of the story will focus on the relationship of Mile Morales and Spider-Gwen. But like the first film, it’s sure to be filled with all kinds of different characters and plot elements.
There is one Spider-Man character that some fans would love to see introduced in the sequel, and that is Spider-Man’s giant mecha suit Leopardon! Leopardon comes from Japan’s iconic Spider-Man TV series, and it would be so freakin’ cool to see the giant robot in action in the Spider-Verse!

Perhaps more so than any other Marvel film before it, Captain America: Civil War will be remembered as the true stage-setter for Infinity War.
After all, this is the movie that thrust a wedge between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, leading to the creation of Team Cap and Team Iron Man – not to mention that unforgettable airport brawl that essentially shook the McU down to its very foundations.
And while the dust may have settled, the Avengers will still be feeling the effects of Civil War long into the release of Infinity War. Hell, Robert Downey Jr. has even hinted at another duel involving his Iron Man and Captain America, who vehemently disagreed over a contentious piece of legislation known as the Superhuman Registration Act.
It’s one that essentially formed the spine of Joe and Anthony Russo’s titanic crossover, so trust Spider-Man to bring some much-needed levity to Marvel’s Civil War.

There needs to be a clear change in thesis statement when you reboot a film franchise. Something like “We need Batman to be more serious and less goofy” being the reason to bring Christopher Nolan in to restart the Caped Crusader, or “Star Trek doesn’t feel relatable to young people because we’ve been serving Tng fans and older exclusively for 20 years” for the Abrams Trek reboot. I think that’s why the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man series never caught on because there wasn’t a change in thesis, it was the same attempt at superhero melodrama with big CGI villains. The only thing that changed was people didn’t seem to like Tobey Maguire anymore and Sam Raimi wanted desperately to do anything else with his time.

With the recent confirmation that Spider-Man: Homecoming will begin a trilogy of movies based around the wall-crawler, it’s likely that Marvel have planned ahead and have at least some idea of what they’ll do in the following two outings. For instance, they might already know which villains will turn up, and if they do, might they tease those characters in Homecoming and its tie-in materials? The answer, apparently, is yes.

If you’ve been following the recent The Clone Conspiracy arc, you’ll know that a forgotten figure from Spider-Man lore has made a shocking return to the comic book world. Namely, Ben Reilly, the clone of Peter Parker who goes by the name of Scarlet Spider. Now, he’s getting his own series once again, and it comes courtesy of Spider-Man comics legends Peter David and Mark Bagley. Thankfully, things get off to a swinging start (hey, it’s an oldie but a goodie) with issue #1.
In Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #1, Ben has moved to Las Vegas to avoid the attention of Peter Parker. In order to get his life – and his fractured mind – back on track, he’s looking to find himself his own version of Peter’s life.

The upcoming reboot will put Peter back in his original suit though when Tony Stark decides to take the costume back from him, and a new piece of Homecoming promo art that was released this week gives us a detailed look at the youngster’s first effort at creating his own superhero duds.
It’s immediately apparent that this suit has been inspired by Ben Reilly. Everything from the hoodie to the webshooters are clearly taken from Peter’s clone, the Scarlet Spider. Still, this nod to the source material shouldn’t...

Now, Marvel has released an amazing variant cover by artist extraordinaire J. Scott Campbell. Featuring Ben in his original Scarlet Spider suit, he’s joined by Spider-Man, though it remains to be...

There’s really no shortage of Spider-folk swinging around the Marvel Universe these days, now is there? Earlier this year, Marvel announced the launch of Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider following the events of the Spider-Man centric The Clone Conspiracy. Since then, there’s been quite a bit of controversy in regards to the hero’s redesigned costume, though we recently learned that he’ll once again don the original after the first arc wraps up. However, that news just serves to make this preview of issue #1 all the more confusing.
As you can see in the gallery above, Ben Reilly comes face to face with…himself? At least, that’s what it looks like, as we get to see the new-look Scarlet Spider interacting with a version wearing his original costume. Could this be a hallucination, or a Spider-Man from another Earth? As of right now, it...
