"Star Wars: The Acolyte" creator Leslye Headland has done something that many thought might've been impossible: creating a "Star Wars" story that you can dive into without any preparation or knowledge of any other parts of the franchise's lore. You definitely do not need to know a lot of minutiae in order to gain enjoyment out of "The Acolyte" (watch the trailer here).
Having said that, there are deeper connections to the "Star Wars" lore that you don't need to know, but it certainly adds to the enjoyment of the show. One of the most significant details in that respect is the knowledge of the time period the series is capping off, along with the struggles of the Jedi and the galaxy itself over the previous couple of hundred years in the "Star Wars" universe. Allow this, then, to be your guide to the ins and outs of the High Republic era.

Luke Skywalker is one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars universe, having played a central role in the original trilogy. Played by Mark Hamill, the original trilogy sees Luke training to become a full-fledged Jedi Knight and harnessing the ability to use the Force. In the end, Luke defeats the Empire seemingly becoming a Jedi in the process.
Luke Skywalker is one of the most popular Jedi Knights in Star Wars (Lucasfilm).
However, Dave Filoni, the executive producer of The Mandalorian, has debated Luke’s status as a Jedi. During an interview, Filoni spoke about Luke’s status and refused to believe that he had accomplished himself as a Jedi. Filoni’s claims will not only displease actor Mark Hamill but also disappoint fans. Here is what Filoni had to say about Luke not being a Jedi and why he is wrong.

Created by Leslye Headland (the TV talent behind Russian Doll), The Acolyte is an eight part Star Wars TV series that marks a significant break from the spin-off material we’ve seen so far. For one thing, it’s set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, meaning that slavish fan service can (hopefully) be kept to a minimum. And for another, the fact that the series is essentially positioned as a murder mystery shows a welcome attempt to play around with genre in the Star Wars universe, something that has arguably been a long time coming.
The show opens in style, with Carrie-Anne Moss’ Jedi Master Indara facing off against a would-be assassin who turns out to be equally proficient in the ways of the Force.

Sometimes, the "Star Wars" universe can seem very small. The vast majority of television we've seen on Disney+ that takes place in a galaxy far, far away is intrinsically tied to the Skywalker Saga in one way or another. Even "Andor" ties directly into the Rebellion and the work of Princess Leia and the people of Alderaan, and it might be the one that feels most removed. The universe of "The Mandalorian" felt separate for a while, but Luke Skywalker's appearance in season two brought it right back into the world of the classic trilogy.
For most "Star Wars" fans — myself included — this small universe phenomenon where everything is connected is a feature, not a bug. That doesn't mean it's not still refreshing to see things completely divorced from the Skywalker Saga and gives us a new window into "Star Wars," and that's exactly what Leslye Headland's murder mystery series,...

The Jedi barely appear in the original Star Wars trilogy. Obi-Wan and Yoda are both hermits hiding from their own failures in distant corners of the galaxy, and both die after teaching Luke Skywalker a bit about the Force. Luke himself never technically completes his training, though he gets close enough to be considered a Jedi master in later films. So the Jedi exist more as a exciting symbol in those early films,...

It could be hard for us to imagine witnessing an alternate universe where Luke Skywalker’s path to Jedi knighthood is fraught with even greater trials. On that note, did you know that in a scrapped storyline from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke narrowly escaped a grim fate at the hands of Darth Vader? Mark Hamill starred as Luke Skywalker, and Harrison Ford assumed the role of Han Solo, among other notable cast members.

Insights from the saga reveal fascinating what-if scenarios, such as one in which Luke’s lightsaber contained a hidden crystal (with critical secrets) that failed to see the light of day. Where Is Yoda in The Acolyte? Showrunner Explains Iconic Character's Absence - Main Image
Where is Yoda in The Acolyte? This is one of the questions that Star Wars fans have been wondering leading up to its release this week.
The series is set to be the first Star Wars live-action project that takes place in the High Republic era, a timeline that has never been explored aside from the comics and novels.

Idw's Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic books have explored Yoda's place in The High Republic era, leading to hopes among fans that the iconic Jedi Master might show up in The Acolyte.
A Yoda cameo would make sense considering how high the stakes in the series are expected to be. However, new comments from showrunner Leslye Headland (via SFFGazette.com) suggest we should temper expectations about him or any other well-known Star Wars characters making cameo appearances.
"Can you imagine? Can you imagine if they were like, 'No problem. You can use Yoda. Not a big deal. Go for it.' No, there is not [a Yoda cameo]," she admitted. "We are pulling characters from the High Republic, and characters from [EU [Expanded Universe]. That's it."
The mention of the Expanded Universe is bound to draw some interest, particularly if it means Lucasfilm plans to address the lineage of Sith Masters who eventually led to Emperor Palpatine.

George Lucas’ Star Wars saga is a trilogy of trilogies; The Return of The Jedi is the perfect film that honors the ending of the classic trilogy, and some even argue that the ending could not be any more perfect. Episode VI ended on a high note that honored the film’s epic story, ending Emperor Palpatine’s reign of terror and Darth Vader’s redemption with some old Force ghosts present at the celebration scene.

However, the film’s epic conclusion was nailed down by a plethora of drafts because Lucas could not decide on a script that ended the story on a high note. Moreover, in several drafts, the ending varied from the one we have seen in the final version of the film because it did not have enough dramatic effect.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, coming to Disney+ on June 4th. It promises a completely different adventure.
Set during the High Republic Era, known as the Golden Age of the Jedi Order, the show aims to show that Jedi don’t have a monopoly on the Force and can be villains too, given the right context.
Since the show is set in a completely different time period from the rest of the live-action franchise, many fans wondered if Yoda, one of the most notable Jedi, could appear. The timeline would fit, given his species’ long lifespan.
However, the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, clarified that Yoda or any other familiar characters from the past won’t appear in the show.

The Acolyte is a show that takes place during the High Republic Era of Star Wars, which is set about one hundred years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This would indicate that while most of the Jedi Council that we know and despise might not be part of the show, fans could expect a certain Grandmaster of the Jedi Order to make an appearance in the show.

Nearly seven years after its release, one of the most controversial scenes in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to be when Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master and veritable legend, tells the next generation about what the Jedi really represent. While training the franchise’s newest protagonist, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Mark Hamill’s now grizzled and ancient Luke intones, “The Jedi are romanticized, deified. But if you strip away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure; hypocrisy; hubris.”
The scene wasn’t taken well by some corners of the Star Wars fandom in 2017, and it’s not taken well now. Yet I’ve been thinking quite a bit about it in lieu of Disney+’s upcoming and hotly anticipated new Star Wars series, The Acolyte. For me, the news that Alfonso Cuarón was helming "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was exciting. At the time, I only knew him for directing the thoroughly enchanting and visually splendiferous 1995 film version of "A Little Princess." As for everyone else? They were trying to make heads or tails of why the guy behind the indubitably erotic 2001 Mexican road trip drama "Y tu mamá también" had been hired by Warner Bros. to work on its golden goose (which really needs to cut ties with its transphobic creator already).
Cuarón was as baffled as anyone else when WB approached him. "I was confused because it was completely not on my radar," he explained to Total Film. "A Little Princess," while critically well-received, had barely made a dent at the box office, while the director's 1998 mid-budget modern-set retelling of Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations" was an outright flop. ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ marks the next installment in the ‘Star Wars’ saga, premiering on Disney+ on June 4th with a promise of a wholly distinct adventure.
Set during the High Republic Era, often hailed as the Golden Age of the Jedi Order, characterized by their vast numbers, Headland appears to be leveraging this backdrop to challenge the notion that the Jedi exclusively wield the Force for good. Instead, she aims to explore the possibility that even they can assume darker roles given the right circumstances.
Details about the show remain sparse, with only the premise of someone hunting down Jedi in the Galaxy and initiating their demise known. While a significant accidental spoiler recently surfaced, it ultimately doesn’t detract from the anticipation of the journey ahead.
Headland recently engaged in a conversation with Den of Geek, shedding light on her strategy for reshaping perceptions of the Sith and Jedi within the series.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Creator Comments on New Take on the Sith: “Are They Good Guys or Bad Guys?”
‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The show arrives on Disney+ on June 4th and it promises to be a completely different adventure.
The show will be set during the High Republic Era, also known as the Golden Age of Jedi Order due to their overwhelming numbers, and it seems that Headland is trying to use that setting to prove that Jedi don’t have the monopoly on Force and that they do too can be bad guys when context is given.
Not much is known about the show except that somebody will hunt down Jedi in the Galaxy and start killing them, there was one pretty major accidental spoiler revealed recently, but it ultimately doesn’t matter we’re here for the journey.
Headland recently sat down with Den of Geek to discuss how she plans on reversing the perception of Sith...

Yoda became a significant pop culture icon after his debut in 1980’s Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Despite the mysterious nature of the character, the audience became fascinated with it and he went on to be a significant figure among the fans.
Before the world got obsessed with Baby Yoda after the release of The Mandalorian, the Og Yoda got one of his most fan-favorite action sequences in the Prequel Trilogy. However, despite becoming a favorite, Yoda did not have an electrifying debut as an old Jedi Master in the Original Trilogy.

“At last, we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last, we will have our revenge,” Darth Maul says to his shadowy Sith master in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Twenty-five years after that prequel film set the stage for the rise of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, the new live-action series The Acolyte will show us the origin of the Sith plan to destroy the Jedi once and for all. That story actually begins 100 years before the prequel trilogy, when the Sith were thought to be all but extinct.

On Monday night, pedestrians walking along New York City’s Park Avenue stopped in their tracks as they noticed unusually well-dressed dogs posing on a red carpet outside Akc’s Museum of the Dog. Staring at the spectacle, they brandished their phones to capture the moment as they wondered aloud what was transpiring.

In the 1970s and '80s, Jim Henson and the Muppets were on top of the world. And it's easy to understand why: The Muppets were magical. As a concept, Muppets are simple things; little more than crude hand-puppets. But through the work of Henson and his Muppeteers, the characters came to life in startling ways. We believe in the Muppets; we believe they exist in our world, and interact with us, and ride bikes, and play the banjo, and do all sorts of things we kind of take for granted. The fact that Disney now owns the Muppets and seemingly doesn't know what the hell to do with them is a great pop culture tragedy; we need the Muppets now more than ever. Bring the Muppets back, damn it!

With Star Wars: The Acolyte just a couple of weeks away, another new TV spot is doing the rounds on social media which showcases Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh's Lightwhip.
As we first explained on SFFGazette.com, it's been established that Lightwhips are a heavily modified lightsaber variant with multiple plasma blades in flexible containment shields. Due to the blades' flexibility, they require more care to use than a regular lightsaber and have less cutting power.
With a history dating back to the "Sith Wars," Lightwhips were particularly associated with the Nightsisters of Dathomir, though Jedi have been known to use them as well. High Republic Era Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh is among them and was able to modify her lightsaber to have an additional whip mode after learning the design in a Force vision.

There are many sung heroes associated with the overall Star Wars franchise, such as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and George Lucas. However, all of these stars have been lauded for their work humungously and continue to receive praise habitually from fans of the never-dying series.
However, some names that also played a huge role in making the original trilogy of films a reality did not quite get the same due. Among them is none other than Frank Oz, originally a puppeteer, and the man responsible for bringing to life one of the most celebrated characters in the Star Wars universe: Yoda.

Oz’s troubles with respect to his work on the franchise included a ‘freaky encounter’ with snakes. Yes, actual, slithering, poisonous, moving, snakes that he was exposed to by the director, Irvin Kershner.

I vividly recall when the trailer for "Star Wars Rebels" season 3 debuted at Star Wars Celebration in 2016. When the promo unveiled Grand Admiral Thrawn -- the awesome Big Bad of Timothy Zahn's "Heir to the Empire" novel trilogy from the Expanded Universe (aka Star Wars Legends) -- as the season's main threat, it was a fist-pump moment for fans of the EU. So, naturally, when the "Rebels" panel opened up to fan questions, one brave soul told "Rebels" co-creator/showrunner Dave Filoni the thing that was on everybody's minds: Do Mara Jade next!
Okay, they framed it as more of a query, but that was the gist.
Mara Jade, as it were, was introduced in "Heir to the Empire" as an assassin in the Emperor's Hand, a secret agent group that served Emperor Palpatine in the EU. A version of the Hand now exists is the Disney canon, but...

Okay, we all loved the original Star Wars trilogy. George Lucas’ unique vision defined the space opera genre and gave us some epic movies that we will love for years to come. But remember when the Prequel Trilogy came out? Sure, by the time the Revenge of the Sith came out, fans were more satisfied with the story, but do you remember how much hate was directed towards Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace when it first came out? And it wasn’t just Jar-Jar Binks that people hated – it was the whole concept and many parts of the story.
Yours truly personally liked the Prequel Trilogy and we on Fiction Horizon are quite happy with how well the three movies aged, as fans have been starting to appreciate these movies more and more in recent years, especially after Disney’s Sequel Trilogy. In light of that, Variety...

When “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” debuted on May 19, 1999, few movies before (or since) were greeted with more fevered anticipation. Not only was the movie the first new “Star Wars” movie in a generation, but it was touted as the first of a prequel trilogy charting the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Knight fated to turn to the dark side as Darth Vader.
Despite the breathless build up, by the end of that summer, the near-universal consensus was that “The Phantom Menace” was, at best, a colossal disappointment and, at worst, a calamitous embarrassment. Some blamed the decision by George Lucas — directing for the first time since 1977’s “A New Hope” — to start the story with a precocious 9-year-old Anakin (Jake Lloyd). Others railed against the slapstick antics and pidgin English of Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best), hyped as the first-ever CG main character in a live-action movie.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace recently returned to theaters to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and while it was a real treat to see the first prequel movie on the big screen once again, some fans have brought up how different the film looks from its original release.
Of course, Star Wars fans are accustomed to the many changes the movies have undergone over the decades, and The Phantom Menace has not escaped unscathed. Throughout its history on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD, we’ve seen the addition of new scenes, altered dialogue, and the replacement of puppet Yoda with a CG version, but perhaps the most divisive change actually affects the entire movie — a very liberal application of Dnr (digital noise reduction).

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away began George Lucas’ epic space opera tale that eventually grew into the pop culture phenomenon we know today as Star Wars. The original trilogy of films Lucas made during the 70s and 80s, became beloved across the globe, but the theatrical cuts of the movies have neared the brink of extinction following Lucas’ special edition re-releases.

There will be spoilers for "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" Episode 1 "The Path of Fear," so beware.
"Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" (watch the trailer here) is the follow-up to the animated "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" shorts from 2022. The initial series followed Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano through formative moments and turning points in their lives. This iteration of the show brings us a look at Morgan Elsbeth, a relatively new character introduced in the second season of "The Mandalorian" and Barris Offee, the Jedi Padawan who betrayed Ahsoka Tano on "The Clone Wars" and framed her for murder.
The very first episode takes us back to "The Clone Wars," in the midst of a battle we've seen before on the planet Dathomir. During "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," the Witches of Dathomir played a vital part, as did Dooku's former Sith assassin, Asajj Ventress. But thanks to revelations in "Ahsoka,...

When Jar Jar Binks appeared in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999, many hardcore fans of the original trilogy thought that Lucas had gone nuts and that Jar Jar was an insult to the franchise created solely to be kid-friendly, i.e., to attract (new) children to the franchise as well. So what? Jar Jar Binks was definitely the odd one out, but yours truly personally liked the character as an elementary schooler and it really helped liking Star Wars even more, especially since yours truly had seen the original trilogy on television before The Phantom Menace appeared.
Still, the character has remained controversial ever since, and the actor who portrayed him, Ahmed Best, has had a rough time defending his most famous role, which he reprised in many spin-off works. Recently, Best talked to The New York Times and gave us an interesting interpretation of Jar Jar’s importance,...

George Lucas, the rebel and the legend, created a living legacy in his lifetime with the Star Wars franchise that represents more human emotions than the species in itself. With each film representing one human emotion – from retribution to love – the franchise soon spawned into a global conglomerate, impossible to be controlled by any one man or be limited to his vision only.

The space saga that began with Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, stretched into half a century’s worth of narrative arc with fans who still revisit the idiosyncratic characters and expansive tales that first originated from the imagination of George Lucas.

This is short, powerful, punchy storytelling in the Star Wars galaxy, hooking onto under-explored characters and offering narrative morsels that thread together decades of disparate threads.
Last time, the focus was on the fall of Count Dooku and pivotal moments in the life of Ahsoka Tano. Here, the first three episodes are devoted to Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) — the Beskar-spear-swinging Magistrate first introduced in The Mandalorian Season 2, later revealed as a former Dathomir witch intent on heralding the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka – as she loses everything, and finds new purpose in the embrace of the Empire.
