Twenty years and 12 features down the line, it’s still hard to peg the directorial sensibility of Michael Polish, with or without the presence of brother Mark as frequent co-writer and actor. His output has been all over the place, from early Lynchian quirkfests to the very middle-of-the-road inspirational dramedy “The Astronaut Farmer,” not to mention mediocre genre exercises, a B&W Parisian romance (“For Lovers Only”). a good movie about Jack Kerouac (“Big Sur”), and one about manure salesmen that’s about as good as that sounds (“The Smell of Success”). It remains a puzzle whether his thematic interests are more laudably diverse than they are simply arbitrary.

Looks like Luke Perry has his hands full with Shannen Doherty. Or at least fake Luke Perry has his hands full with pretend Shannen Doherty. In a sneak peek at Lifetime’s upcoming “The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 Story,” Perry (played by Jesy McKinney) films a makeout scene with Doherty (Samantha Munro), his hands roving further north than the powers-that-be are comfortable with. “They shoot porn over there, not here,” faux Perry is told. “Luke, you gotta keep your hands off her breasts. Lifetime has released a photo of the cast of its “Unauthorized” movie, this time tackling the classic ’90s teen drama “Beverly Hills 90210.” The film will follow all of the behind-the-scenes drama of the show that launched the careers of stars like Shannon Doherty, Luke Perry and Jason Priestly. Max Lloyd Jones, known for his role on ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth,” will play Priestley/Brandon Walsh. “Degrassi” star Samantha Munro will play Doherty/Brenda Walsh.
