This year's Nifff was quite intently focused on Asian cinema. It was not only the retrospective of Katsuhito Ishii, but also the Asian competition, with “Marry My Dead Body” receiving the Audience Award and the fact that Nuhash Humayun's “Foreigners Only” won both the Youth Award and the Audience Award for Best Short Film. Most of all, however, because “Tiger Stripes” was the winner of the Grant Award, the H.R. Giger “Narcisse” for Best Feature. Even UK-produced, “Raging Grace”, which won two awards, has Filipino Max Eigenmann as its protagonist.
Our coverage includes interviews with the person of honor (Ishii) along with the big winner Amanda Nell Eu and Anurag Kashyap, whose film “Kennedy” also screened.

It’s a new year and everyone wants to put the vile cesspool that was 2020 behind them. Thankfully, HBO Max is coming out swinging to make the transition out of the hellyear even easier. HBO Max’s list of new releases for January 2021 is positively packed with notable film releases and even a fun HBO Max Original or two.
For starters, Search Party season 4 will arrive to HBO Max on Jan. 14. This season of the show with a now-surprising lifespan finds Dory Sief in the thrall of a deranged stalker…right after getting off on murder charges. These Brooklynites lead such fascinating lives! San Diego Comic-Con’s first-ever Comic-Con@Home comes to a close Sunday, ending a five-day lineup of almost entirely prerecorded virtual panels.
San Diego Comic-Con 2020 was canceled in April due to the coronavirus pandemic, marking the first time the annual pop culture event won’t happen as planned in its 50-year history. The online convention, dubbed Comic-Con@Home, will take place July 22-26, the same time span during which San Diego Comic-Con would have been held. Between 300 and 400 virtual panels are planned for the event.
