Surreal. That’s how Misan Harriman describes his first time at the Academy Awards earlier this year. Six years before, his wife had bought him a Fujifilm X100 for his 40th birthday and encouraged him to start taking pictures with it. Then there he was, surrounded by the global industry’s most overachieving, himself an Oscar-nominated director.
He had always loved film, having been raised on ’80s and ’90s cinema like The Lost Boys, Big Trouble in Little China and Stand By Me. He describes Home Alone, of all things, as “more than entertainment for troubled kids like me,” and will share his connection to the classic movie’s study of “trauma response” and the way it, and films like it, saved him. Born in Nigeria in 1977, Harriman was the only Black kid at his British boarding school. “With my kind of neurodiversity, I’m not supposed to be good at anything,...

On Thursday, the Underworld star was dressed to kill on the red carpet at the King’s Trust 2024 Global Gala (previously The Prince Trust). She wore an edgy bridal outfit that accentuated her beautifully toned physique.

Selma Blair is trying to dramatically walk back her self-admitted rage filled rant against Islam and members of the US Congress from a week ago.
“This is a time of great pain and anguish for many around the world, but it is also a time to learn and better understand how words matter,” the Cruel Intentions actress wrote today in a long statement on social media as the backlash against her continued to grow. “I respect and love all peace-loving communities, all over the world,” Blair added. “It was my Muslim friends who helped educate and show me the way. I am committed to paying forward their love and understanding. We cannot allow ignorance and rage to becomes our downfall.”
“I am dedicated to tolerance and peace for all who want it – not hate,” Blair went on to say at the end of the clearly crafted statement posted on her Instgram Tuesday afternoon.

It was an era-defining moment when departing Vogue UK editor Edward Enninful gathered together 40 of the most famous faces to have graced the cover of his magazine for a farewell group shot.
Famous faces on the March 2024 issue include veterans Oprah Winfrey and Jane Fonda, supermodels Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Kate Moss and Linda Evangelista, actresses Jodie Comer, Anya Taylor-Joy and tennis star Serena Williams.
The Daily Mail reports that the photoshoot was done at Highline Stages in New York’s Meatpacking District, in early December 2023.
One star noticeable by her absence was Nicole Kidman, who – it transpires – was unable to attend because the end of the writers’ strike meant she had to return to filming duty on her next project, Birthday Girl.
Questions were also raised over the absence of Meghan Markle, who joined forces with Enninful back in September 2019 to guest-edit an issue of the magazine.

"I'm going to tell you everything." Mubi has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled High & Low - John Galliano, arriving to watch in select US theaters this March. The film originally premiered at the prestigious 2023 Telluride Film Festival last fall, and it also played at the Zurich, Hamburg, London, and Rome Film Festivals last year. From acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, the doc examines the rapid ascent, fall from grace, and journey forward for controversial fashion designer John Galliano. In 2011, his career abruptly ended after being caught on video using shocking antisemitic and racist insults. Macdonald's film investigates the multiple facets & contradictions of Galliano's character and context, including decades of industry pressure and drug & alcohol addiction, that surrounded his downfall and recovery. Featuring conversations with: Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron, Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Boris Cyrulnik, Hamish Bowles, and Sidney Toledano, among others.

With haute couture week in Paris concluded, the spotlight of the fashion world shifted en masse to Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the village perched on the Maritime Alps in southern France. Simon Porte Jacquemus chose it as the location to present his new collection for 2024 in the Maeght Foundation, a few kilometers from Nice, calling together his high-profile friends Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, model (and girlfriend, reportedly, of Leonardo DiCaprio) Vittoria Ceretti and Deva Cassel (daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel) who paraded on a platform set up among the works of Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder and Alberto Giacometti.
Not surprisingly, the collection of 47 looks, both women’s and men’s, was given the name “Les Sculptures” by the French designer (who himself grew up in the south of France, in the town of Mallemort, not far from Marseille). As Miami Art Week and lead fair Art Basel Miami Beach wraps up its 21st year, by night there were fashion events, popups, concerts, dining debuts, cocktail soirees and philanthropy moments to match and exceed every by-day art buy. During the week-long festivities — in which the Magic City is taken over by celebrities, musicians, artists and collectors — star chefs, performers, credit card companies and fashion, liquor and watch brands were all heavily in the mix alongside dealers and collectors. For some, it was quite possible to spend an entire week traversing from the beach to Brickell and from Downtown to the Design District attending art-adjacent parties and never even seeing any of the fairs.
Here are the highlights of what happened around town when everyone was not looking at art.

Italian fashion icon Donatella Versace has sharply criticized moves by Italy’s far-right government to restrict the rights of same-sex couples, lashing out at anti-lgbtq+ policies in a speech Sunday night at the Cnmi Sustainable Fashion Awards during Milan Fashion Week.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his Killers of the Flower Moon co-star Lily Gladstone have teamed once again, this time as cover stars for the October issue of British Vogue.
In an interview conducted ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the two open up about their collaboration in Martin Scorsese’s epic story in which they play real-life husband and wife Ernest and Mollie Burkhart, a couple living on the Osage Reservation in 1920s Oklahoma amid a tragic time. It’s a rare showing for DiCaprio, who rarely sits for lengthy interviews or covers. He does so this time with Gladstone for writer Afua Hirsch and a shoot by photographer Craig McDean with styling by the mag’s Edward Enninful.
“Lily is absolutely astonishing in this movie,” the Oscar winner says of Gladstone. “She carries the entire film and the story.” He also says that Scorsese knew straight away that she...

After months of speculation, Conde Nast confirmed this morning that Chioma Nnadi, the current editor of US Vogue’s website, has been tapped to replace Edward Enninful as the head of British Vogue.
Nnadi — a native Londoner who has been based in New York since 2010 — will take office on October 9. As part of wider restructuring plans at Conde Nast, Nnadi’s job title will be head of editorial content, rather than editor-in-chief. She is the first Black woman to hold the top job at the magazine.
Nnadi said her focus in the role will be on “digital storytelling” and keeping Vogue “interactive” in a statement given to The Guardian. Anna Wintour said Nnadi is an “editor and writer with an impeccable reputation” in a separate statement announcing the hire.
“She is passionate about fashion, music, and culture, and I couldn’t be happier that she will be leading our editorial and creative teams in London,...

Kanye West is facing the repercussions of (and harsh critiques for) his most recent attention-seeking antics in fashion. After having models strut with “White Lives Matter” T-shirts during his Yzy show in Paris Monday, leaders in the fashion world heavily criticized and slammed the provocateur for his ill-executed attempt at sending a message about race.
West, for his part, has doubled down on his Candace Owens-endorsed “fashion statement” and weaponized his social media to 1) say that “Black Lives Matter was a scam,” 2) attack Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who described...

With a week to go before kicking off the London Film Festival, the British Film Institute gathered the U.K.’s titans of cinema to toast the return of moviegoing and celebrate the next generation of filmmakers.
The BFI’s Luminous gala took place at the swanky Londoner hotel in Leicester Square on Thursday evening (Sept. 29), where Variety had exclusive access. The event, which also featured the BFI and Chanel’s inaugural Filmmaker Awards, used to be a biannual bash, but was the first of its kind since the pandemic.
The starry dinner convened around 400 guests, including actors Daisy Ridley, Ncuti Gatwa, Morfydd Clark, Rebel Wilson, Lily James, Malachi Kirby, Dame Joan Collins and Eddie Redmayne; directors Edgar Wright, Gurinder Chadha, Steve McQueen and Terry Gilliam; and producers including Working Title co-founder Eric Fellner, screenwriter Jemima Khan, and former BBC drama commissioner-turned-A24 international boss Piers Wenger.

Timothée Chalamet, making history as the first solo man to cover British Vogue, has a lot to say.
In the Giles Hattersly-penned cover story, the man described as “boyfriend to an entire generation,” opens up about his new film, Luca Guadagnino’s cannibal love story Bones and All, his meteoric rise to fame and what life is like as an ever-evolving artist. But, Hattersly writes, Chalamet often prefers to ask the questions rather than offer a definite opinion on anything as a “classic deflector.”
The profile doesn’t waste any time getting to a headline-worthy item by arguing that Chalamet seems to have picked up the baton from onetime teen heartthrob, Leonardo DiCaprio, who, when they met in 2018, offered up his career rule: “No hard drugs and no superhero movies.”
There’s no flying in Chalamet’s latest film, in which he plays Lee,...
