Exclusive: Out at the Cannes market, LA-based production company Convergence Entertainment Group is launching There There, which is being written and directed by the Polish brothers in their first collaboration in more than a decade.
The film has begun principal photography and the duo are hopeful it will premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. This would be the sixth Polish Brothers film to premiere at the festival.
On There There, each of the twin brothers will write and direct one half of the movie without the other knowing anything about the other, resulting in two separate storylines that will be interwoven into a single feature-length film. This approach will enable each brother to explore the nature of the twin relationship from their own unique perspective without being influenced or constrained by the other’s vision.

AMC released the trailer for its upcoming original series, “Dark Winds.” Based on the “Leaphorn & Chee” books by Tony Hillerman, the noir thriller premieres June 12 on AMC and AMC+ with its first two episodes and a new episode each Sunday thereafter.
“Dark Winds” takes place in 1971, on a secluded outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Ariz. The series follows Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) as he is overcome by a string of what seem to be completely unrelated crimes. But, as he gets closer to the truth, the more he is visited by the wounds of his past. His new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), joins him on the journey, and he, too, has scores to settle from his years on the reservation as a young man. The two men join forces in the battle against evil, themselves and their demons as they travel the path to salvation.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Impulse” Season 1, including the ending.]
There’s a moment in the “Impulse” finale that helps bring the show’s entire first season into focus. Not knowing about the strange ability that her daughter has only begun to start to control, Cleo (Missi Pyle) comforts Henry (Maddie Hasson), telling her not to diminish her own experiences or put them in some self-imposed context.
In a way, by the ending of Season 1, that’s the same message that “Impulse” itself has sent to its main character: to not lose sight of what she finds important, just for the conventions of TV. While the collective entanglements of the characters for the show’s other generation was more of a mixed bag, the new YouTube Premium series managed to let its high-school-aged protagonist take her time before crossing paths with an outsider well outside her current hometown.

The story of Jack Parsons — the very real rocket scientist upon which “Strange Angel” is based — is a bizarre combination of ego and ambition that quite literally blew up in his face, when a chemical experiment exploded and killed him in 1952 when he was just 37 years old. Parsons was fascinated by all things considered fantastical, whether that be traveling to the moon or the Los Angeles occult scene that eventually became his stomping grounds. His life intersected in weird and fascinating ways with legendary figures like famed occultist Aleister Crowley and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. As his biographer George Pendle puts it, “By day he built rockets for the government, by night he emerged from a coffin to perform sex magic with his followers.”
A TV show about this man’s life should be fascinating. So why, then, does “Strange Angel” take so long to get to the good stuff?...

Who would have thought that there was a connection with the birth of rocket science and the occult? In the new trailer for the forthcoming CBS All Access drama Strange Angel we see this fascinating story of Jack Parsons pan out as he goes from blue-collar worker to rocket engineer.
Based on George Pendle’s book of the same name, Strange Angel follows the real-life story of Jack Parson (Jack Reynor) a factory worker in 1930s Los Angeles who dreams of building rockets that will take a human being to the moon. As he helps pioneer the unknown discipline of rocket science by day, by night, Parsons is pulled into Crowley’s new occult religion that includes performing sex magick rituals to bend the world to his will and make his fantastical dreams a reality. The trailer blends all of this together — and it is certainly strange as the title suggests.

DreamWorks Animation has established itself as a studio which consistently produces stunning animated films, and perhaps no more so than with its “How to Train Your Dragon” film series. The franchise boasts endlessly beautiful imagery, as well as incredibly lovable characters and intense action. All of these elements can be found in spades in the Netflix spinoff series “Race to the Edge,” as the show expands on these facets and digs deep into what makes the franchise so great.
As with most animated properties, the main demographic for the “Dragons” franchise is children. However, the creators of both the films and TV series have shown that this franchise isn’t exclusively for children; rather, it’s conveniently made accessible for children, while proving entertaining for older audiences as well. Whether you’re a fan of animation, the franchise, looking for a fun fantasy series to binge for a couple of weekends,...

"By Christmas morning, you're going to be calling me son, I'm going to be calling you dad." 20th Century Fox has revealed a second red band trailer for the new comedy Why Him?, about a father dealing with the totally insane boy that his charming daughter has chosen to marry. Bryan Cranston stars as the father, and James Franco stars as the boy - a tattoo-covered "internet billionaire", with Zoey Deutch playing the daughter. The rest of the cast includes Megan Mullally, Keegan-Michael Key, Griffin Gluck, Andrew Rannells, Casey Wilson and Zack Pearlman. Not so sure about this, seems a bit too goofy. I'm actually more interested in seeing Keegan-Michael Key as his butler more than pretty much anything else. Have fun. Here's the second red band trailer for John Hamburg's comedy Why Him?, direct from Fox's YouTube: You can still watch the first red band trailer for Why Him?...

Comedy Central is smarter than we are. The cabler is developing a brothers comedy TV series with Zack Pearlman and Julian Sergi. And just look at them! Don't you wish you'd thought of it, first? He voices the character Anou on Comedy Central's animated TripTank TV show.Sergi, who is in the War Dogs feature starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, has appeared on episodes of Grace and Frankie, as well as Key and Peele, which is ending next month. Richard Roeper from the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it a really nice 88 grade, stating: "With some genuinely insightful dialogue, a number of truly funny bits of physical business, and small scenes allowing us to get know and like a half-dozen supporting players, The Intern grows us on from scene to scene, from moment to moment." There's a reason Nancy Meyers is Hollywood's most successful female director. The Intern, in theaters Friday, will feel familiar to those who have watched her previous movies time and again. But unlike the majority of her work, The Intern's focus is light on romance. Rather, it chronicles an unlikely friendship that forms between Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the founder and CEO of a fashion e-commerce company, and Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro), a retiree who becomes Jules' sounding board. The 121-minute movie's supporting cast includes Adam DeVine, Anders Holm, Zack Pearlman, Andrew Rannells, Rene Russo and Nat Wolff, as well as Jason Orley, who is Meyers' former assistant. Nancy Meyers is an easy target for cynical critics, and she's certainly responsible for her fair share of glossy nonsense. She's also the most financially successful female filmmaker of all time, and as big a brand as any male filmmaker working right now. The only difference between her and, say, Michael Bay is which altar they worship at. Michael Bay makes movies that are so artificial, so technically-driven but hysterically soulless that it's like Skynet got addicted to Internet porn and Jerry Bruckheimer movies, while Nancy Meyers' voice is more like what would happen if Pottery Barn became sentient. I think Meyers is genuinely trying to expand the definition of what a studio comedy is, though. I think she's someone who has found her own niche, and just like Judd Apatow, she tells stories about characters who live the way she lives, which is to say very, very well.

Some movies just have you at hello (and if they don’t, they probably won’t ever get you), and The Intern is one of those films. Warner Bros. has released a new set of images, and they actually clue you in to more detail than the trailer, but further marketing for this one is probably a lost cause. If Robert De Niro showing up to be Anne Hathaway‘s intern doesn’t suck you in, you’re immovable.
If the added information that this one is written and directed by Nancy Meyers still doesn’t do anything for you, I don’t think there’s the slightest hope of reaching you.
As I said, the images reveal a bit more of the story, especially in the sense of De Niro and Hathaway appearing with a cute kid, but I don’t think that’s going to be big reveal...

Full disclosure, right off the bat: I didn't enjoy Inherent Vice. I thought it was a tiresome exercise in style over substance, an incoherent mess of a movie that I could never settle into. I did however really enjoy Katherine Waterston's performance in the film, so it brings me a bit of joy to hear she will be stepping in front of the camera soon in a major starring role, even if it is in a spinoff of a franchise I never really went gaga for. amz asin="B005CRQ3IE" size="small"According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waterston has nabbed the lead female role opposite Eddie Redmayne in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warner Bros. forthcoming spinoff of its Harry Potter franchise. The film is based on Potter's Hogwarts textbook of the same name and will follow the adventures of the book's fictitious author Newt Scamander...

With Eddie Redmanye in final negotiations to lead Warner Bros.' Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, attentions now shift towards filling out the rest of the cast. And it looks as though they are shooting for the fences here, as Kate Upton and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) are up for the same part, Saoirse Ronan and Dakota Fanning go head-to-head for another and Dan Fogler is rumored for an antagonist part. The Wrap reported on the female casting. Ronan, Fanning, Lili Simmons ("True Detective") and Alison Sudol ("Transparent") all are up for the part of Tina.
