A new episode of the Revisited video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that was just released last year, writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here and is available to watch on the Shudder streaming service. To find out what we had to say about Christmas Bloody Christmas one year after its release, check out the video embedded above!
Christmas Bloody Christmas has the following synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal and violence,...

5 Best Christmas Horror Movies(Photo Credit –IMDb)
When one thinks of Christmas, horror, and gore are generally not the first things that come to mind. Christmas is all about having fun. It’s full of life and color, and identifying it as scary would be out of place. And while Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” does make a perfect example of a ‘scary Christmas,’ it does not qualify as a traditional, spine-chilling horror movie. But contrary to popular narrative — certain media out there does it, and does it well. Think of the latest “Fargo” episode that runs a Halloween theme and blends it with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
So, the appeal behind it is understandable. This is why we have curated a list of the best Christmas horror movies you can enjoy for a change of pace from all the happy and sparkly traditions.

August has been a significant month for Screambox, which celebrated the anniversary of Tobe Hooper’s original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, took a look back at the classic 1985 movie Clue in Who Done It: The Clue Documentary, got creature feature crazy with the sci-fi horror Subject, and had a blast with the Ghostbusters-inspired sci-fi horror comedy The Ghastly Brothers.
In addition to the controversial The Woman hitting the streaming service last week, Screambox has now added four highly regarded horror films, all courtesy of MPI/Dark Sky Films.
The lineup includes…
Late Phases: A practical effects heavy werewolf movie from Adrián García Bogliano. When deadly beasts attack from the forest, it is up to a grizzled veteran to uncover what the residents of a secluded retirement community are hiding.

Holiday horror has officially moved from the month of October to the chillier air of the Christmas season. Genre fans making their 31 Days of Horror list during Halloween can just as easily come up with 25 scary movies to watch every day in December. This year, Joe Begos and company added "Christmas Bloody Christmas" to the growing pile of Yuletide horror found underneath the VHS tree. Call it "Xmas-ploitation" if you must. In what's essentially a non-stop chase featuring a killer robot Santa (Abraham Benrubi), Begos could have easily delivered a run-of-the-mill slasher without any real visual flair. Instead, "Christmas Bloody Christmas" is a wonder to look at, mostly thanks to cinematographer Brian Sowell's ability to bathe the small town streets in a luminous and ominous trail of lights. In /Film's review, Chris Evangelista said the film has "a style so sharp that it borders on breathtaking," and he's not wrong.

This article contains major spoilers for "Christmas Bloody Christmas."
Tis the season for Christmas slayings, as this year has granted us with not one, but two ho-ho-holiday beatdowns. Where "Violent Night" propped up David Harbour as a Santa Claus forced to go all John McClane on a group of mercenaries, "Christmas Bloody Christmas" goes in a much different direction. The new independent horror flick from director Joe Begos sees a robotic department store Santa (Abraham Benrubi) going on a small town killing spree after its wiring malfunctions.
The kicker is that the technology within was initially programmed by the Department of Defense, so if you're on his naughty list, he's not giving up until you're in the ground. "Christmas Bloody Christmas" is one of those cases where its brilliant premise results in a mixed bag of a slasher flick. The 16mm neon-drenched bloodbath succeeds when Benrubi lets loose, and less...

Joe Begos, writer/director of Christmas Bloody Christmas – which is now playing in theatres, and is also available to watch on the Shudder streaming service (you can read an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO Here) – is hoping to make two sequels to his holiday horror film. But before he gets to work on those sequels, if they do happen to get made, he’s going to wrap up a horror project he has been working on since the early days of the Covid pandemic lockdowns. An alien invasion horror movie that he stars in, because the alternative would have been to cast someone who was in the Screen Actors Guild, which would have added thousands to the budget.
Speaking with The Boo Crew podcast, Begos said (with thanks to Bloody Disgusting for the transcription), “I play a coked out filmmaker who is at the edge of his wits. Everybody around him has cut him off,...

Joe Begos unleashes a new holiday horror classic with his gleefully gratuitous robot Santa rampage, Christmas Bloody Christmas.
Horror is most commonly associated with Halloween, but Christmas is right behind the spooky season when it comes to holiday-based horror movies. Christmas horror movies take plenty of different directions from creative home invasions to Satanic elves. However, the killer Santa trope is by far the most common device that’s turned to by these movies. There’s something inherently upsetting about the corruption of a comforting figure like Santa, but the trope’s overexposure has made it increasingly difficult to feel fresh.
Joe Begos is an exceptional horror filmmaker who’s previously eschewed genre tropes with Vfw and Bliss. His latest movie, Christmas Bloody Christmas, finally finds a unique angle on the killer Santa stereotype by turning the seasonal threat into a robotic Terminator-like predator. While chatting about the film and his career with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast this week, Joe Begos provided us with some early details on his Next horror movie.
For starters, Begos himself will be the star of the show…
Begos teases, “I play a coked out filmmaker who is at the edge of his wits – everybody around him has cut him off, and the opening scene is him just melting down. And then he gets abducted by aliens, in this really fucking crazy scene. And he wakes up and he can’t really remember but it starts to come back to him. So he convinces a friend to come over. And while his friend’s there, [the aliens] come back.

Once Christmas horror films provided a form of relief to those craving a break from peace and goodwill to all men. Now each winter brings a slew of them, so that they feel almost like part of the festive package. Overall quality has steadily gone downhill as they have strained to squeeze a little more blood out of increasingly anaemic themes. With a simple plot about a killer robot Santa, Christmas Bloody Christmas might sound like more of the same, but writer/director Joe Begos really knows how to tell a story, and against the odds, this film is a gift to jaded viewers.
Riley Dandy plays Tori, a record shop owner who, like many people in retail, is feeling the strain of dealing with festive shoppers. She wants to spend the evening getting drunk and having fun with her Tinder date. Employee Robbie (Sam Delich) has other ideas, however.

While Violent Night is lighting the box office on fire, there’s another film featuring a Santa with a bit of bloodlust: Christmas Bloody Christmas. Thankfully this Santa is much less friendly and a lot more homicidal. I was fortunate enough to talk with the writer/director, Joe Begos, and pick his brain on this wonderful little title. He talks about how it started as a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, only to evolve into a killer robot Santa film. This is probably my favorite conversation yet, so don’t miss it!

Christmas Bloody Christmas Review: A Robotic Santa Goes Haywire In This Uber-Stylish Holiday Slasher
Christmas has become a ripe season for horror. The holiday horror subgenre is alive and kicking, and it feels like every year we get at least a handful of Christmas-set creepers, usually involving some sort of killer Santa Claus. It's nothing new — Santa has been slashing for years, in one form or another. When TriStar Pictures released "Silent Night, Deadly Night" in 1984, complete with a poster featuring Santa's arm clutching an axe as he descends down a chimney, there was an uproar. The uproar was so loud that TriStar pulled the pic from theaters after a week — which wasn't such a big deal, as "Silent Night, Deadly Night" had already made back its meager budget, and then some, at that point.
"Silent Night, Deadly Night" wasn't the first film to feature some sort of evil Santa — 1978's thriller "The Silent Partner" has Christopher Plummer as a sadistic thief who dresses...

Here are ten noteworthy horror titles available for streaming in November 2022 on some of the most popular streaming services, along with when/where you can watch them.
Tobe Hooper’s Night Terrors – Screambox (December 1)
Robert Englund stars as the Marquis de Sade and his descendent in this strange, underseen feature by Tobe Hooper. Our own Patrick Bromley wrote about the film earlier this year. He wrote, “Hooper was a last-minute replacement for this offbeat horror movie, which attempts to bridge flashbacks of the Marquis de Sade with the modern-day story of a young woman (Zoe Trilling) who gets involved with a weird sex...

I’ve been a fan of writer/director Joe Begos’ work ever since I saw his first feature, Almost Human, back in 2104 at Frightfest. My love of his work was cemented by The Mind’s Eye, Bliss and Vfw. One thing his films are known for are the various influences that 80s cinema has had on his work – from The Mind’s Eye being inspired by Scanners; Bliss feeling like the brethren of Near Dark by way of To Live or Die in LA… Begos’ films tend to take on different cinematic horror tropes, whilst harkening back to the 80s, in both style and substance.

There isn’t much left of 2022, but one of my most highly anticipated movies coming in what’s left of this year is writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here. Now a trailer for Christmas Bloody Christmas has arrived online to give us a preview of what this film will have in store for us when it reaches theatres and the Shudder streaming service on December 9th. Check it out in the embed above!
Christmas Bloody Christmas has the following synopsis:
It’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs,...

"Ho ho ho!!" Rlje Films + Shudder have revealed an official trailer for a hilariously crazy, brutally violent new holiday horror film titled Christmas Bloody Christmas. While there have been other animatronics-come-alive horror films this year already (see Spirit Halloween and The Curse of Bridge Hollow) this one looks like the best. It's the latest film from director Joe Begos, known for his gritty indie features Bliss and Vfw previously. It's Christmas Eve and Tori just wants to get drunk and finally party, but when a robotic Santa Clause at a nearby toy store goes haywire and begins a rampant killing spree through her small town, she's forced into a battle for survival. The film stars Riley Dandy, Sam Delich, Jonah Ray Rodrigues, Dora Madison, Jeremy Gardner, Jeff Daniel Phillips, & Abraham Benrubi. Uh looks awesome?!?! Wtf! What an incredible trailer - great choice of music and footage. He has laser eyes?...

It's the most wonderful time of the year. I'm talking about Beyond Fest: probably one of the best (if not the best) genre film festivals in Los Angeles. Every year they seem to top themselves with the screenings they hold. This year, they had an incredible Rrr screening in IMAX at the Tcl Chinese Theatre and a William Shatner triple feature with Shatner himself in attendance. But today, I'll be talking about a movie that will be your new favorite Christmas killer robotic Santa movie. I'm talking about the new Joe Begos joint, Christmas Bloody Christmas.
I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater filled with Christmas cheer, Santa hats from everyone, and a killer robot Santa photo op. So, without further ado, let me tell you what this movie is all about: "...it’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms...

Plot: It’s Christmas Eve, and Tori and Robbie just want to party and get drunk. Unfortunately, a robotic Santa with evil intentions may ruin their plans.
Review: Recently, I went to the World Premiere screening of Christmas Bloody Christmas at this year’s Beyond Fest. Intending to review this flick, I decided to go in completely blind. Indeed, the title gives a little warning, but the lively introduction of writer/director Joe Begos grabbed my attention. Whatever this holiday offering had, it was going to be rambunctious. And now, I’m happy to say that the wild and wooly, fast-paced fright fest is perhaps one of the best St. Nick inspired horror features in recent years. Bloody, with practical effects, and many F-bombs to offend those who don’t like cursing. And I cannot wait to talk about the rockstar performances of Sam Delich and especially Riley Dandy.

Our friends at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival have announced the first wave of programming for this year's festival and as expected, the gang will not disappoint. Lorcan Finnegan's new film Nocebo, starring Eva Green, is going to open this year's festival. The new film from the director of Without Name and Vivarium will be sure to not disappoint. Joe Begos remains an undefinable style of filmmaker. After the 2000s seemingly kickstarted a new wave of independent horror, the 2010s (and beyond) were an exceptional time for new and emerging, as well as established, filmmakers to leave their own mark on the landscape of genre storytelling. One of the most notable aspects, or even trends, that I noticed while doing research for this entire series of retrospectives is how out of all of the decades, it feels like the 2010s was one of the best times for female filmmakers to get the opportunity to take the helm in comparison to other decades. The 1980s had a handful of women directors working in independent horror, but during both the ’90s and ’00s, it felt like the industry as a whole had taken a few steps backwards in providing female filmmakers the opportunity to tell the stories they wanted to tell.
Thankfully, though, the door swung back open in...

Hello, everyone! As we get ready to head into December, we have one last round of home media releases for this month on tap first. If you haven’t had a chance to check out James Wan’s Malignant yet, Warner Bros. is releasing it on both Blu-ray and DVD, and A24 is finally bringing Saint Maud home this Tuesday, too. Both Summer of 84 and Ticks are getting the 4K treatment, and Severin Films is showing some love to Ruggero Deodato’s Raiders of Atlantis as well.
Other titles being released on November 30th include Wild Indian and The Last Matinee.
Malignant
“Malignant” marks director James Wan’s return to his roots with this new original horror thriller. In the film, a woman is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.

Hello, everyone! Throughout the month of April, I’m going to be offering up some streaming suggestions in support of our ongoing Indie Horror Month celebration, and today, we’re celebrating 13 different films that are currently streaming on Shudder. For this list, I tried to offer up some titles that have either been on the platform for a while now, so maybe they’ve gotten lost in the mix (since Shudder regularly updates their service with so much killer content), or they’ve generally just flown under the radar of most fans. So, while I absolutely adore movies like Host or Mandy, I felt like horror fans in general are already tuned in to those masterpieces, and I wanted to give a few other films a shot at glory here as well.

2020 sucked in so many ways, but nobody told the movies. Here are some of my favorite things from a very, very weird year for all of us.
Color Out of Space (dir. Richard Stanley)
Richard Stanley’s return to directing after too many years away resulted in one of my favorite films of 2020 full stop, containing a great, unhinged performance from my favorite actor Nicolas Cage. It’s a neon-soaked nightmare and features maybe the second most disturbing visual of any movie in 2020; I won’t say what it is except that it involves family bonding. This is a bold, confident film, one that's weird, but never cold and disturbing without the nihilism of, say, Stanley's own Hardware. It's a horror film that's not afraid to go to really big places. It presents us with a true, exciting vision. Richard Stanley is back, and he's brought the best Lovecraft adaptation in 30 years with him.
