Brought to life with a powerful performance by Duane Jones in George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, Ben is a beloved and compelling character from horror cinema. Despite what happened to him onscreen, Ben's story continued over the past year in Double Take's comic book series Soul, a key part of their Night of the Living Dead: Revival universe. With the five-issue Soul now available as a graphic novel (which can also be read in digital form right here on Daily Dead), we caught up once again with writer/editor Michael Coast to discuss the intriguing series that breathed new life into Ben. [Spoiler warning if you haven't read all five issues of Soul.]
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Michael. Ben from Night of the Living Dead is such an iconic cinematic character. What was the most daunting part of approaching his story and taking it in a new direction in Soul?...

Double Take (“2T”) has announced that it will simultaneously release four new series this mid-December. These stories will star new characters as well as familiar faces from 2T’s first ten series set in a creative universe established in the cult classic Night of the Living Dead.
While 2T’s first ten series took place in a 24-hour period in April 1966, readers this time can expect a modern update to the same universe: the new series all take place in present day. But the storytelling is still just as diverse as the first ten series, which started out seemingly as zombie stories, then transformed into other genres: comedy, sci-fi, superheroes.
New series 51, Z-Mart, and Alphabet City will continue the stories of unique characters introduced last year in Remote, Dedication, and Home respectively. And 2T will also give readers a bold, new super-powered tale in Behold.
“Primarily we want to make great content.

Sixteen years ago, Bill Jemas played a lead role on the team that transformed Marvel from an insolvent comic book publisher and toy manufacturer into a world-class entertainment company. In 2013, Take-Two Interactive Software hired Jemas to start Double Take. Bill and his team commissioned a new generation of creators to deliver a wonderfully diverse and exciting universe with everything from hordes of Walking Dead to teams of superheroes, from mad scientists to attractive aliens. “We believe that Double Take is producing some of the best comic books in the industry,” said Michael Coast, senior Story Editor at 2T. “Our books appeal not just to hardcore comic book fans, but to readers who are new to graphic novels as well.” In conjunction with their graphic novels, 2T has developed the world’s first native mobile comic book player. Using panels to create a stop-motion animation effect to bring each story to life,...

Taking place in the world of George A. Romero's classic 1968 film, Double Take's Night of the Living Dead: Revival comic book universe now features fifty issues across ten interconnected series. With each five-issue story being released as revamped graphic novels and as part of special "binge box" collections today, Daily Dead recently spoke with Double Take's Bill Jemas and Michael Coast about their team's ambitious approach to storytelling, what new treats await readers within the pages of the graphic novels, and much more.
Now that you've reached this milestone of releasing the first fifty issues in this universe, when you look back at where this journey started to where you are now, what are you the most proud of accomplishing so far?
Bill Jemas: I'm really proud of the team. I think pound for pound, Mike has become the best package in the industry of editorial skills and writing chops.

In 2014 Take-Two Interactive hired Bill Jemas to spear head a new comic book imprint called Double Take Comics. Now two years later Double Take Comics has created over 10 different comics all linked together in a common universe. In 2015 the property of “Night of the Living Dead” went into public domain and Double Take decided to adopt their comics into that universe. It was that decision that Bill Jemas said turned around the company and began creating great stories. It started out as ten stories all linked together by zombies to connect the characters together. Now after a year of publishing digitally and print, Double Take is releasing all sets in graphic novel form. Bill Jemas took time out of his busy schedule to sit down and talk with LRMonline.com about the journey he has been on with Double Take along with Lead Editor Mike Coast telling us what makes...

As Evans County residents sipped their coffee while the sun spilled over the horizon and onto their small Pennsylvania town one April morning in 1966, they could not have had the slightest idea that over the next 24 hours, they would be faced with the ravenous zombies, aliens from the far reaches of space, and worms that like to wriggle into your ears once your pulse peters out.
The remarkable stories of these eclectic townspeople have made for some damn fine reading over the previous four issues in Double Take’s Night of the Living Dead: Revival series, and with the #5 issues out today, readers can witness the first phase of these incredible story arcs come to their conclusions. But the end is really a new beginning for these stories and their characters, and what happens in these final issue #5 panels will surprise (and likely delight) readers, including both those who...

Stories that started when the dead began to rise come to the end of their first arcs this Wednesday with Double Take’s release of Night of the Living Dead: Revival‘s #5 issues, but it’s only the dawn of a new beginning for many of the characters readers have fondly followed since last fall. To get an idea of what to expect in the #5 issues and beyond, we caught up with Sr. Story Editor and writer Michael Coast, who discussed the future for Evans County’s resilient residents.
Thanks for once again taking the time to answer some questions for us, Michael, and kudos to you and the creative crew for a stellar round of #5 issues in the Night of the Living Dead: Revival universe. There’s something odd, dangerous, and fascinating going on in Evans County, Pennsylvania. The dead have risen with voracious appetites, but that’s not all. No, that’s only the half of it. A higher power is behind this zombified movement, leaving the surviving humans to try and figure out just what the hell is going on… if they can live long enough to come up with the correct answer. Progress is made, blood is spilled, and more intriguing questions are raised (along with the dead) in the #4 issues of Night of the Living Dead: Revival, out today from Double Take.
What began as a sequel of sorts to George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead has morphed into a unique creature that stands sturdily on its own two feet. For many of the ten individual-yet-intertwined series under the Night of the Living Dead: Revival label,...

Overseeing and intertwining separate comic book stories set in the same zombified universe is no easy task, but Michael Coast has done a seamless job doing just that throughout the first four issues of all ten series of Double Take’s Night of the Living Dead: Revival. Coast is also a writer for several of the series that expand the world of George A. Romero’s classic zombie film, and with #4 issues hitting shelves on June 1st, the busy writer/editor took a quick breather from his Double Take duties to discuss zombies, humor, world building and much more in our latest Q&A feature.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Michael. One of the most entertaining characters in Double Take’s Night of the Living Dead: Revival series is little Lisa Foster, a girl with a vocabulary that would make the most hardened sailor wince.

Disc jockey Samantha is surrounded by zombies, but rather than panic, she’s found a way to co-exist with her drooling companions in Remote #3, one of ten new Ultimate Night of the Living Dead comic book issues hitting shelves tomorrow from Double Take. For our latest Q&A feature, we caught up with Remote writer Gabe Yocum, who discussed Samantha’s versatility, the unique nature of radio station zombies, and more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer questions for us, Gabe. What has it been like to take the reigns on the writing duties for Remote? Was it easy to continue the story with the same style and rhythm?
Gabe Yocum: My pleasure. Remote has been a joy to pick up and run with. This is my first comic and I’ve had lots of help from our editorial staff. It’s definitely not easy, but there is an...

Scientists are trying to discover a cure for it, grocery store employees are trying to survive it, and a pair of Secret Service agents are just trying to figure out what the hell is going on. The living dead infection is spreading in the ten new #2 issues of Double Take’s Ultimate Night of the Living Dead comic book universe, and in this second round of storytelling, the writers continue to crank out original content set in George A. Romero’s beloved Night of the Living Dead world.

Today, the zombies from George A. Romero's classic 1960s horror film rise once again in ten separate first issues of Double Take's Ultimate Night of the Living Dead comic book series. Daily Dead recently chatted with Jeff McComsey, writer of Z-Men and Rise, who discussed expanding on Romero's living dead world, further exploring the characters of Johnny and Barbara, and much more.
Do you have fond memories of watching Romero's Night of the Living Dead in your formative years?
Jeff McComsey: I saw it at a pretty young age, probably in the mid-’90s. I remember we rented it on VHS and watched it a couple of times. It wasn’t until I was in college and we watched a bunch of old movies when we really got into it. And now since I’ve watched it professionally, I’m still impressed with what Romero did.
