This is North Preston is a wonderfully strange film, a bit hard to believe but it’s all there unfolding in front of our eyes.
First some history. During slave times up until 1860, when the Civil War of Emancipation began, escaped black slaves from the Us south moved relentlessly northward, feeling and knowing that the farther they got from the Us South, the safer they and their families would be. The vast ghettoes in Chicago and New York City began, developed and grew like this.
Today a town of 4,000 people in Nova Scotia is home to the largest black community in Canada.
It started as a safe haven for slaves, a final stop on the legendary Underground Railroad from the Deep South.
In recent history, the town of North Preston, has evolved into the pimp, black crime, human trafficking and drug capital of Canada.
