In recognition of his role as Charlie in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, the American-Canadian actor, 55, received his first Academy Award for Best Actor. Josh Brolin has had an interesting career over the years. His breakthrough role came with the 1985 adventure comedy film Goonies. In the 2000s, he gained prominence playing significant roles in acclaimed films such as No Country For Old Men and Milk. The 2010s was a great decade for Brolin as he tasted huge commercial success with the last two Avengers films and Deadpool 2.
Josh Brolin in 2008’s Milk
He played iconic comic book characters Thanos and Cable in the two films. However, he had already dipped into the comic book world with DC’s 2010 film Jonah Hex. The film is considered one of the worst superhero films ever made and Brolin is still taking the blame for the disastrous results of the film and continues to criticize its quality.

How does one repay a team of producers for launching its highest grossing film of all time? Give them the key to the studio — literally.
On Monday, “Barbie” producers, LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara inked a first-look deal at Warner Bros., which distributed the $1.4 billion-grossing movie. So, to celebrate, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Co-Chairs and CEO Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca decided to resurrect an old tradition, started by WB co-founder Jack Warner.
“Every once in a while, when a significant piece of talent signed a deal with the studio, he presented that company, that talent, with a key to the studio,” De Luca said as he and Abdy raised a toast to the trio. “We are so delighted to have our first key to our studio be given to LuckyChap.”

Brendan Fraser’s massive popularity has helped play a role in the revitalization of the 54-year-old actor’s career. That includes Fraser’s first-ever Oscar nomination for best actor, via his towering performance in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale.”
For this week’s video episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, we sat down with Brendan Fraser to discuss “The Brenaissance” and what this past year has meant to him. We also play a game called “Whose Babe Is It Anyway?” — where Fraser guesses which of his former co-stars said a particular line.
Watch the full video above. The podcast, including an interview with Oscar-nominated “Tár” star Cate Blanchett, will be released on Friday.
“The Whale” is a stark, dour examination of regret and addiction, wrapped into the script written by Samuel D. Hunter, who adapted his play of the same name. Distributed by A24, “The Whale” tells the story of Charlie,...

A glamorous woman swaps bodies with another glamorous woman – Max Barbakow’s new bodyswap film looks set to subvert a genre built on polar opposites
The bodyswap genre has long existed on a simple premise: what if two people with entirely opposite worldviews got to experience life through each others’ eyes. Classics of the genre have involved Freaky Friday (a child switches bodies with an adult), 18 Again! (where a teenager switches bodies with an 81-year-old coma patient), Like Father Like Son (where a child switches bodies with a surgeon) and The Hot Chick (an attractive person switches bodies with Rob Schneider).
But you ain’t seen nothing yet, because Hollywood has now devised a bodyswap movie that makes all these films look like practice runs. It has used advanced scientific and mathematical formulas in order to locate the two actors currently working on planet Earth who are total opposites in every conceivable way,...

Time-lopping comedy Palm Springs took a while to make it over from the US, but it was worth the wait. So , naturally there is anticipation for director Max Barbakow's next film. He's returning with an untitled body swap comedy that will star Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.
Little else is known about the movie beyond the fact that Barbakow came up with the concept and wrote the script, which he'll direct. It has snagged a deal with Amazon (which has been on a buying streak of late) and will be produced by Roberts' company and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment.
Roberts was last seen in TV drama Gaslit and cinematic rom-com Ticket To Paradise, with Leave The World Behind headed our way via Netflix this year. As for Aniston, she returns in Murder Mystery 2, which just launched a trailer.

Fresh off the surprise box office success of Ticket to Paradise, Amazon Studios has struck a deal for a body-swap comedy starring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Further plot details weren’t revealed.
The Amazon Studios movie is based on an original pitch by Palm Springs filmmaker Max Barbakow, who will write and direct. He’ll also produce alongside the two actresses and Lucky Chap Entertainment, the shingle co-founded by Margot Robbie.
Roberts starred opposite George Clooney in Universal’s Ticket to Paradise, which flew to a better-than-expected 169 million-plus at the global box office last year after older adults turned out in force.
Insiders say the Roberts-Aniston project, which was packaged by CAA, drew interest from studios across Hollywood. Roberts and Aniston will produce via their Red Om Films and Echo Films banners, respectively.
Roberts is represented by CAA and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman.

Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston will swap bodies in a new comedy from “Palm Springs” filmmaker Max Barbakow.
Amazon landed the film after a bidding war between several studios and streamers, according to Deadline, which first reported the news of the project. Barbakow will write and direct the movie, which is backed by Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment. CAA brokered the sale to Amazon.
Aside from its marquee talent and financiers, there’s little to nothing else known about the film — including a title or logline. But the recent surprise successes of “Ticket to Paradise” with Roberts and George Clooney, as well as “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, have proven there’s real demand for star-driven comedies at a time when the genre has otherwise been struggling commercially. At the box office, “Ticket to Paradise” and “The Lost City” each grossed more than 150 million worldwide.

Exclusive: Amazon Studios has won a heated auction among four other studios and streamers for a Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston comedy vehicle. The untitled body swap comedy was pitched last week by Max Barbakow, who will write and direct the film. LuckyChap Entertainment, the production label of Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, will produce alongside Roberts and her Red Om Films banner, Aniston’s Echo Films, and Barbakow. He is best known for directing Palm Springs, the Andy Samberg-Cristin Milioti 2020 comedy won by Neon and Hulu at Sundance for a then-festival record sum. The comedy is based on his original pitch.
The appetite for a two-hander star vehicle comes after the surprise box office success of Ticket to Paradise, the comedy that re-teamed Roberts with George Clooney. For Amazon’s Jennifer Salke and Head of Movies Julie Rapaport, this signals an uptick in Amazon stepping up to bolster its film slate.

Gearing up for phase two of the Oscar season even before we have even scratched the surfaces of phase one, the Santa Barbara Film Festival said Tuesday that The Whale star Brendan Fraser will be the recipient of its American Riviera Award on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023.
Fraser has already become the nascent awards season’s “comeback kid” — first winning raves when the A24 film from director Darren Aronofsky had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival (including a viral post showing a tearful Fraser reacting to a long standing ovation), and then at the Toronto Film Festival where the film also received raves along with a prize at TIFF’s awards gala.

Most independent producer/financiers would be glad to have one hot title up for sale in Toronto. Limelight arrives this week with three: the Jane Fonda/Lily Tomlin-led comedy-drama “Moving On,” plus a pair of distinctive coming-of-age dramas, “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” and “Wildflower.”
Now Limelight is developing the script for a comedy tentatively titled “Coachella,” written by Andy Siara (“Palm Springs”) and Joey Siara. The feature centers on teens who tell their parents they’re going on a church trip, but sneak off to the famed desert music festival instead. The Siara brothers are loosely drawing on their experiences playing the fest with their indie rock band, The Henry Clay People.
By any measure, Limelight partners Dylan Sellers, Chris Parker and Alex Dong are on a roll. Their comedy “Palm Springs” sold to Neon and Hulu for around 22 million in 2020, a record-breaking Sundance deal at the time.

Brendan Fraser is feeling the love. The actor was caught off guard in the best way when a fan let him know that we are all in full support of the Fraser-ssaince unfolding in both television and film.
TikTok cosplayer @LittleLottieCosplay recently held a virtual meet-and-greet with Fraser that spawned one clip that has since gone viral with more than 1 million views and counting.
At the start of the TikTok, Fraser is in the middle of dishing about his latest project, the Martin Scorsese Western epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
“I’m going to work with Scorsese and Leo (DiCaprio) and Bob De Niro.” he says, adding, “I’m a little anxious,” as he mimes gnawing on his fingernails nervously.
The fan was quick to assure Fraser that he’s “got this” though.
“The internet is so behind you! We’re so supportive,” she says. “There are so many...

When this decade began little did we know a Brendan Fraser renaissance was around the corner, but it looks like dreams do come true. Recently impressing with a late Orson Welles-esque demeanor in Steven Soderbergh’s crime drama No Sudden Move, the star shot a major leading role with Darren Aronofsky’s forthcoming The Whale, and has now booked two more notable projects.
Deadline reports Fraser has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon, which is shooting now in Oklahoma. Fraser will play Ws Hamilton, lawyer to Robert De Niro’s character William Hale. In the Eric Roth- and Scorsese-scripted adaptation of David Grann’s best-selling novel, Lily Gladstone play Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman married to Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio), who is the nephew of a powerful local rancher (De Niro).

Glenn Close is set to star in the upcoming film “Brothers.”
Legendary Entertainment, the production company behind the movie, has not divulged a single detail about “Brothers,” other than the fact that Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage will portray siblings. To that end, it’s unknown who Close will play.
However, sources say the project is in the vein of Ivan Reitman’s 1988 buddy comedy “Twins,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
“Palm Springs” filmmaker Max Barbakow is directing “Brothers” from a script by Macon Blair and Etan Cohen. Blair was initially set to direct the movie before duties were passed to Barbakow.
Mad Chance’s Andrew Lazar will produce alongside Brolin via his company Brolin Productions and Dinklage through his shingle Estuary Films.
Close recently received Academy Award recognition for “Hillbilly Elegy,” director Ron Howard’s drama about a family in middle America. The celebrated actor has been nominated...
