The History Channel’s set a December 1, 2023 premiere date for The Unbelievable with Dan Aykroyd, a one-hour nonfiction series that explores bizarre events in human history. As Aykroyd says in the trailer, “Just below the surface of the world you thought you knew, well that’s where all the good stuff is hiding.”
New episodes air on Fridays at 10pm Et/Pt.
Dan Aykroyd hosts and serves as an executive producer on the 10-episode season. John Brimhall guides the series as showrunner. Additional executive producers include Steve Ascher, Matt Pearl, Kristy Sabat, and The History Channel’s Brooke Townsend and Mary E. Donahue.
“This wildly entertaining, smart series digs up a bizarro barrage of the weirdest people, places, objects, and events in human history and delivers stories in a way that only Aykroyd can. From Boston’s Great Molasses Flood of 1919, when a 25-foot tidal wave of syrup demolished an...

Random Media has acquired worldwide rights to The Kybalion, a faith-based documentary featuring appearances by Paula Roberts, Daniel Ryan, Bryan Contnoir, and Raymond Moody.
The film directed by Ronni Thomas (AMC’s The Broken and the Bad) and hosted by occult historian Mitch Horowitz is set in 1908, examining an occult manuscript that would mystify those interested in metaphysics and the unseen world.
The Kybalion, penned by a mysterious author known as Three Initiates, presented seven principles of ancient Hermetic philosophy. The film explores each in detail, via dramatic live-action sequences and animation, with psychics, mediums, alchemists, and parapsychologists giving their perspective on the principles, how they relate to their work and search, and what they reveal for all of us.
Eric Doctorow negotiated the acquisition deal for Random Media with Sebastian Twardosz of Savant Artists on behalf of the filmmakers.

The legacy of The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, is truly immense. For example, the most popular horror saga of our times, which started with The Conjuring, owes it everything. However, the impact of the 1973 film goes beyond the screen. When I interviewed occult writer Mitch Horowitz, on the occasion of the Blu-ray release of the documentary series Cursed Films, he commented that “most people in the United States and Latin America perceive exorcism or demonic possession based upon what they experienced through that movie. Even if they’ve never seen it, the ideas from that movie have become so influential that people who speak about exorcisms are probably forming their point of view from that movie. If The Exorcist never got made, it’s very...

Mitch Horowitz has spent the majority of his life fascinated and entrenched in the occult. His fascination started to take shape in his youth and over the years, he has become an expert in alternative spirituality, mysticism, and the occult but rather than taking on a sensationalist approach, Horowitz has provided levity and scholarly eye to the subject. He's a well-respected author and lecturer and most recently, he brought his knowledge to “Cursed Films.”
The documentary series which is being released on digital, DVD, and Blu-ray on August 18, features a wide variety of interview subjects but Horowitz is one of the few "film outsiders" brought on by writer/director Jay Cheel to provide a deeper reading of the films and the tragedy that surrounds them.

Hello again, dear readers. Right now, we’re living in unprecedented times, and it’s nice that, if nothing else, we still have entertainment to help us through all of this. Most of us are preparing for another month of self-isolation and thankfully we have a ton of horror and sci-fi titles hitting various VOD and Digital platforms throughout the month of April. Also, I decided to feature some special streaming events here as well, beyond the regular digital releases we usually get, as I thought it might be helpful to have as many distractions as we could possibly get over the next few weeks or so.
Later today, the Salem Horror Fest is hosting a virtual premiere for Mass Hysteria over on Facebook Live and the very next day, Shudder’s new series, Cursed Films, kicks off with their first episode on The Exorcist. The next installment of Blumhouse’s Into the Dark series,...

Netflix has ordered “The Midnight Gospel,” an animated series from “Adventure Time” creator Pendleton Ward and comedian and host Duncan Trussell. The series will debut on the streaming service in 2020.
Co-creators Ward and Trussell will executive produce the eight-episode series, which is “set in a fantastical universe” and draws on interview clips from Duncan Trussell’s podcast, “Duncan Trussell Family Hour.” The animation production company behind “Big Mouth,” Titmouse Animation, is the studio.
The show centers on Clancy, a “spacecaster with a malfunctioning multiverse simulator [who] leaves the comfort of his home to interview beings living in dying worlds,” according to Netflix.
In addition to Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time” — which ran for 10 seasons — the Emmy-winning Ward also has in the works the upcoming mini-series “Adventure Time: Distant Lands” for upcoming streaming service HBO Max, which launches in May. Ward’s credits also include “Bravest Warriors,” which he created and voiced,...

In one of the more bizarre pieces of film news I've seen lately, there's word of a Kickstarter floating around that aims to take on a mad scientist/necrophiliac true story --- by way of puppets. Award-winning filmmaker Ronni Thomas has enlisted Richard Stanley (yes, That Richard Stanley, of Dust Devil, Hardware, and the upcoming Lovecraft adaptation of Colour Out Of Space) to narrate. But the talent doesn't end there. Puppeteer Robin Frohardt, FX kingpin Shane Morton and Silver Scream FX lab, composer Stephen Coates, occult expert Mitch Horowitz, and Oddities co-star Evan Michaelson are among the roster of cast and crew that have come together for this danse macabre. No Place For The Living will throw back the shroud on the life of "Count" Carl Von Cosel, who lived with the corpse of...
