Yet another puzzle picture, that came out on DVD back with the first wave of Wac films in 2010. An expensive romance with Albert Finney and Yvette Mimieux, it was filmed in Europe, co-written by Ray Bradbury and bears the music of Michel Legrand, including an exceedingly well known pop song. Yet it sat on a shelf for three years, only to make a humiliating world debut on TV — on CBS’s Late Nite Movie. It was clearly one of those Productions From Hell, where nothing went right.

We chatted to actor Luke Newberry about his BBC Radio 4 Home Front role, In The Flesh, getting his start in acting and more…
“I’m still umm-ing, how annoying for you!” he says, but interviewing Luke Newberry isn’t annoying in the least. He’s at pains to give proper answers to questions, literally so judging by some of the noises he makes in our half-hour chat. His frustrated ‘aaghs’ and ‘ooohs’ and ‘umms’ are the sound of someone who doesn’t have a ready-made patter and who doesn’t want to just say any old thing.

Exclusive: In April 1945, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force ordered that footage shot by combat and newsreel cameramen during the liberation of Occupied Europe be aggregated into a documentary film that would be shown to the German prisoners of war as irrefutable proof of what had occurred under the Nazi regime. The producer from the British Ministry of Information, Sidney Bernstein, assembled a first-rank team of editors for the project and eventually brought Alfred Hitchcock over to help organize the footage and accompanying narration. (Later, Billy Wilder would also be brought in to work on the documentary.)
Post-war events quickly overshadowed the painstaking work. The last official action on the film, according to the Imperial War Museum in London, was a screening of the five-reel rough cut on September 29, 1945, after which it was shelved. Seven years later, the material, including 100 more reels of unedited footage, a script for the narration...

Coronation Street
My favorite moment of this week came when Eileen, after the truth about Maria and Marcus had been revealed, told them that they were selfish idiots who had hurt a lot of people with their deception. She spoke the truth when she predicted this would end in a lot of tears because Marcus would be unable to change who he is, a gay man. I’ve said that from the beginning of this storyline and if that was a foreshadowing moment, I have to say I agree.
As much as I find Maria and Marcus sweet together, I do think that Marcus seems to have ‘adjusted’ to his new life awfully quickly. Yes, he had a brief moment of ‘confusion’, but he got over that fast. And is it just me, or does it seem that now that Marcus is sleeping with Maria, we...

Neighbours
I guess I shouldn’t be shocked that now that Chris and Aidan are back together, they’d return to their old roles of supporting players in everyone else’s drama. Sadly, we don’t even get any scenes of them enjoying being back together or working to get the point they were before the split as they were nearly living together back then, though Chris did casually mention they were taking things slow. Let’s hope we get some insight to their relationship as it goes forward, though given this show’s history, I have my doubts.
As for the drama we did see, I really find Chris’ endless support of Andrew to be annoying. As Tash and Summer rightfully pointed out, Andrew screwed Chris over and would do it again. And he barely apologized for nearly ruining Chris’ life and almost bankrupting Chris’ family.

Esther Bloom's bullying storyline continues on Hollyoaks next week as a handful of her fellow sixth formers appear determined to make her life a misery. The student's latest humiliation comes when George Smith (Steven Roberts) asks his friends to help out with his new drama project, which is an homage to Roman Holiday. Lacey Kane's contribution is to bring along her sister Ash's motorbike for the short film, but when bitchy Maddie Morrison (Scarlett Bowman) is cast as Audrey Hepburn, Esther makes the mistake of trying to outdo her rival on the bike. While taking the vehicle for a ride, hapless Esther (Jazmine Franks) manages to crash and makes a fool of herself by accidentally flashing her underwear. It's not long before footage of the incident subsequently appears online… Later in the week, the teen group prepares (more)...

From the claustrophobic dread of gothic silents to the psychological shadows scattered through more modern cinema, shadows have been cast on walls, haunted the past, concealed what we may not want to see or allowed somebody (or something) to emerge into view.
The use of shadows to enrich the a film's atmosphere or narrative has been with us since the earliest cinema. For this Clip joint, I would like your favourite scenes involving shadows. My chosen scenes tend towards the horror genre, so it would to great to also see some clips where shadows offer lighter entertainment, or where shade brings respite...

The L.A. Complex
Wow. I didn’t see that coming. Frankly though I have to admit I don’t quite buy Kal trying to kill himself. The character just didn’t seem like the type to take things in that direction. Still, it’s pretty compelling drama and Benjamin Charles Watson and Andra Fuller not only have terrific chemistry, but are very talented actors.
Their scenes together are very intense and I thought the moment where Tariq told Kal that he’d never be able to get involved with another man without thinking about the abuse he suffered to be quite powerful. This continues to be a really well done storyline and quite unique in that it features black gay men, which is sadly still a rarity on the gay television canon. I’m very glad this show is back and they’re continuing this compelling story,...

When I heard that Gtbt was going to give Lucas a potential new love interest in the form of Bilal, a closeted gay Muslim, I hated the idea. And now that the story has begun to unfold, leading to the badly-played season finale in which Lucas and Bilal kissed, I hate it even more. To be blunt, this is a horrible, clichéd plot on a show that has long had problems with solid and consistent storytelling. I’d taken a hiatus from this show for most of the last season because it was unwatchable. And I’m already thinking of not...

Hollyoaks kicks off its Company storyline this evening (July 9) as show regulars Esther Bloom and George Smith become interns at the popular fashion magazine. As announced last month, Hollyoaks and Company arranged the collaboration to highlight opportunities in the media and fashion. Here, Company's editor Victoria White - who appears as herself in the episodes - chats to Digital Spy about the special storyline. How did the collaboration with Hollyoaks come about?
"We approached Hollyoaks with the idea, because the character of Esther talks a lot about wanting to be a fashion journalist, so that came up when we were brainstorming some new innovations. One of our features team said, 'Wouldn't it be funny if Esther from Hollyoaks could come to do work experience at Company?' "Hollyoaks (more)...

Continuing our new regular feature, our rugby columnist Jeff Ball makes his predictions for this weekend’s round of matches which include Toulon welcoming Stade Francais and Edinburgh’s trip to Ulster. Let us know your predictions either in the comments below or on Twitter @Ballintouch
As May approaches and the inevitable drama that is the end of the season approaches, the penultimate weekend of European action offers a selection of match ups that should make for an exciting weekend.
Key: Amlin Challenge Cup (AC) Heineken Cup (Hc)

Toulon vs. Stade Francais (AC)
One prediction I can make with some certainty is a French side will win the Amlin Challenge Cup, mainly because all four semi-finalists in this year’s competition are from the Gallic land. Toulon name a side packed with the big names we know so well now. The Niekerk, Wilkinson, Giteau axis at 8, 10, 12 will likely determine the outcome of this game.

Days of Our Lives
Thank God it’s over. That’s what I thought at the end of last Friday’s episode when the show finally brought the horrible website storyline to a close. And aside from the fact that it’s finished, there’s nothing positive to say about this plot, which was terrible from first scene to last. There were so many things wrong with this storyline, and they were exemplified by this week's episodes. Plot holes and poor characterization abounded. And the acting was painful to watch, with the bit players and the show’s regular performers equally bad. But most of all, there were two things about these episodes that were particularly disturbing.
Sonny and Austin got to play hero in this bad storyline…
One, how all the women stood around and looked helpless and waited for the men to rescue them.

Forget Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee! There was one actor who truly epitomised classic Hammer horror, and that was the irreplaceable Michael Ripper. With a whopping 23 films to his name, he was to Hammer what Desmond Llewellyn was to James Bond.
Michael Ripper was born in Portsmouth on 27 January 1913. His father Harold was a civil servant who ran a local amateur dramatic company and taught elocution and speech therapy, his mother Edith worked as a teacher. Ripper had a very unhappy Victorian childhood; his dominant father was very much a stern disciplinarian.
A pupil of Portsmouth Grammar School, which he hated, Ripper was more or less pushed into acting by his father, who entered him in various poetry competitions. A close family friend and regular visitor to their Southsea home was the brilliant comic actor Alastair Sim.

I think it.s safe to say that everyone knows The Beatles, but it.s probably far less likely that you know what John Lennon.s teenage years were like and even more unlikely you know who Mimi Smith. Lucky for you, Nowhere Boy focuses on just that. John grew up under the care of his aunt and uncle, Mimi and George Smith, not because his mother had passed but because she was simply absent from his life. When his uncle George passed away, it was John's mother, Julia, he ran to, not Mimi. Julia had a passion for music and a fun-loving spirit, but it was impossible for John to ignore the fact that she had abandoned him. On top of trying to rekindle that relationship, there.s also growing tension between John and Mimi, who.s concerned for his welfare and simply misses him. Had anyone but Kristin...

A theme in George Romero.s Survival Of The Dead, his sixth zombie opus, is taking sides . where we stand, and where you stand and I suspect his legion of fans will be split into sides as well. Like the director.s previous entry Diary Of The Dead, many will embrace it but just as many will loathe it. Romero has earned this horror fan.s loyalty and I’ll always look forward to seeing his films, but Survival Of The Dead has to be judged in context of his earlier Dead entries, and I found it a mixed bag at best. It.s not the worst in the series (hey, it.s better than Day) but it.s all over the map in terms of tone and Romero seems to have trouble finding the right balance between horror and spoof. It also suffers from a completely ridiculous plot as well as inappropriate slapstick,...
