Outer Banks and The Archer director Valerie Weiss has come aboard to direct, with a number of actors joining the cast including two-time Emmy winner Julie Bowen, Gemma Brooke Allen, Nick Thune, Jackson Rathbone and newcomers Olga Petsa, Audrey Hsieh and Diego Mercado.

Katie Holmes stars in this sequel to 2016’s little-seen creepy doll horror The Boy. It’s directed by William Brent Bell, who clearly has an affinity for this sort of thing, because in addition to helming the original film, he’s just signed on to direct Esther, a prequel to 2009’s superficially similar Orphan.
Brahms begins with a poorly staged prologue in which Liza (Holmes) and her young son Jude (Christopher Convery) are traumatised by a home invasion. The attack leaves Jude unable to speak, so Liza and husband Sean (Owain Yeoman) decide to get away from it all and holiday in the guest house of a mansion in the north of England. Actress Katie Holmes, who plays Liza in the horror movie "Brahms: The Boy II", was freaked out by the doll and said working on the film was incredible unnerving.
"It was creepy. It was really creepy every single time. They did such a good job with that doll and I mean, I didn't want to be alone with the doll. It was weird. By the end, it was like, 'Am I waiting in line behind a doll at catering? I might be. I think this thing really is alive'," Holmes told Bloody Disgusting, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

How terrifying is it when your child befriends a possessed doll! Actress Katie Holmes who plays Liza talks about how unique and daunting it was to play the role of a mother in the much-awaited sequel of The Boy.
She says,??Liza is such a universal character, she is a loving mother who is very protective because she was so vulnerable and ready to be scared. It was a fun role to play and be in a hyped state of emotions.?
I'm such a big fan of this genre. I love working with Stacey Menear, I was really excited to be making this movie with them. I feel like it is very terrifying and it has many elements of classic movies, so I'm very excited. We just finished it about 3 weeks ago.??
The movie is?plotted around a family that moves into a new house with no knowledge of its dark past.

Confusion is baked right into the title. Four years after “The Boy” scared up a few bucks at the box office, director William Brent Bell and screenwriter Stacey Menear return with a new vision of what fresh terrors said boy will enact on yet another unsuspecting family. Why “Brahms”? That’s the doll’s name, or the boy’s name, which might remind moviegoers of the nutso line-blurring in “The Boy.” However, “Brahms” also indicates what Bell and Menear really hope to accomplish: and the possibility of continuing a franchise for a film that never expected have one.
There wasn’t much original in Bell and Menear’s first crack at the creepy-doll horror genre, but “The Boy” had a sense of humor and a grasp on its wackily warped mythology that earned a few real chills and a couple of genuine laughs. None of that for “Brahms: The Boy II”; instead,...

It’s a hard to believe that several millennia after the invention of the written word, there are still some sentences that have never been put in print. Case in point: “Brahms: The Boy II” is the “Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker” of horror.
Those are words that were probably not designed to go together, and yet here we are, in the year 2020, and the comparison seems weirdly apt. Much like the latest “Star Wars,” William Brent Bell’s sequel to his unexpectedly successful — and genuinely scary — 2016 horror-thriller seems determined to undermine all smart storytelling of the film that preceded it, to the detriment of both.
“Brahms: The Boy II” takes the best elements from “The Boy” and reverses course so abruptly, it practically leaves skidmarks on the screen. It’s not just a subpar sequel; it retroactively injures an otherwise superior film.

Brahms: The Boy II favors a benefit not all sequels can boast: the retaining of original creative parties. Writer Stacey Menear and director William Brent Bell both return in their respective roles after 2016’s The Boy, yet I’m not positive their initial cinematic experience left a lasting impression. Granted, Brahms’ second familial infiltration does dare to be different – by completely retconning The Boy’s canonical third act. Please, weaponize creativity, but ensure continuity flows between franchise entries. We’re not even on “Part Iiv” where Brahms blasts into space or the prequel where Brahms goes to old-timey English college. You can’t even keep your storytelling straight for two consecutive films?
Brahms’ newest targets are city folk looking to escape metropolitan hustles and recent traumas. One night while Sean (Owain Yeoman) worked late, wife Liza (Katie Holmes) and son Jude (Christopher Convery) found themselves victims of a violent break-in.

Harrison Ford’s “The Call of the Wild,” the family adventure based on the classic Jack London novel, earned $1 million in box office previews on Thursday.
Ford stars in the film alongside a furry, but CGI, companion in the form of a dog named Buck. But though the film is the biggest new wide release of the weekend, it will likely fall short of another live-action and CGI hybrid family movie, “Sonic the Hedgehog,” heading strong into its second weekend. “The Call of the Wild” is also the first movie released under the new name 20th Century Studios, with Disney recently renaming the old Fox studio.
The studio is projecting an opening in the $15 million range for “The Call of the Wild.” Compare that to another adventure with a winter release, albeit with a real dog. “A Dog’s Way Home” from last January, debuted to $11.3 million after earning $535,000 in its previews.

“Sonic the Hedgehog” is off to the best start ever for a video game adaptation with a $70 million 4-day opening weekend. Now it is expected to stay No. 1 even with new competition from “The Call of the Wild,” the first 20th Century Fox film that will be released by Disney under the rebranded name 20th Century Studios.
It’s the start of what will be a slower late February period for the box office. Between the release rush of the first half of the month and what is expected to be a crowded March, theaters are largely keeping their distance from this period as it isn’t showing a lot of potential for new films to leg out. With its genre record and strong audience word of mouth, “Sonic the Hedgehog” should stay atop the charts while “The Call of the Wild” is expected to open No. 2 with an opening weekend of approximately $15 million.

It’s always interesting to see which original horror films get sequels. Critical acclaim often fades into the background, as commercial success pushes production companies forward in making these new films. Films that get panned by critics end up having two, three, or four sequels, while individual critical darlings are one-and-done. In this case, “The Boy,” which came out in 2016 and panned universally by critics, looks to be given a second chance in the form of “Brahms: The Boy II.”

Katie Holmes is set to star and take on the lead role in a sequel being developed for the 2016 horror film The Boy.

Katie Holmes stars in Brahms: The Boy 2, a sequel to the 2016 Lauren Cohan-headlined horror film.
The Boy arrived in early 2016 as a uniquely interesting horror movie offering, not only because it was headlined by Lauren Cohan, then one of the stars of one of TV’s hottest shows, AMC's The Walking Dead (to which she will soon return), but also because of its unique promotional strategy, which teased it as a haunted house movie; something that, as shocked audiences would discover, it is not. Indeed, while the film provided a profitable $64 million bang for STXfilms’ $10 million budget buck, a sequel – barring something straight-to-dvd – was not expected… until now.
Brahms: The Boy 2 is the title of STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment movie sequel, which procured a high-profile star in Katie Holmes. The sequel got The Boy band back together, landing original director William Brent Bell, who worked...

Katie Holmes is returning to her horror roots. After spending recent (read: post-“Jack and Jill”) years working firmly in smaller-scale cinema, including supporting roles in films like “Logan Lucky” and “Woman in Gold” and directing and starring in her feature filmmaking debut “All We Had,” Holmes has signed on for a new high-profile gig. The actress and filmmaker will star in Stx Entertainment and Lakeshore Entertainment’s just-announced sequel, “The Boy 2,” which follows their 2016 horror hit “The Boy.”

The Boy (2016)
Written by: Stacey Menear
Directed by: William Brent Bell
Cast: Lauren Cohan (Greta), Rupert Evans (Malcolm), Jim Norton (Mr. Heelshire), Diana Hardcastle (Mrs. Heelshire), Ben Robson (Cole)
The scenario most always plays out the same way. A break out hit film or show with an ensemble cast spawns many unrelated off shoots with members of that cast allowed to showcase their talents on a singular level. Sometimes it’s spectacular, sometimes it’s tragic, and sometimes a film that would have completely flown under the radar, breaks through the haze of obscurity because of one golden ticket. That ticket is name recognition, and if the film isn’t a hit, it will at least find its place as a footnote in genre history.

In life, we have to make tough decisions. Last night, a Friday night after an extremely long work week, I made such a decision when I volunteered to see The Boy of my own volition. With no critics’ screenings being offered in the Us, and no midnight openings in NYC, I braved an impending Snowmageddon to weigh in on William Brent Bell’s housebound horror film – and can report that it’s the repugnant genre dumpsterfire you’d expect from a January release. Good ‘effing lord, do I really need to write another 500 words about what a stale, vapid chore this delightless thriller is?
Lauren Cohan stars as Greta, an American nanny who takes a job in a desolate English village. When her car pulls up, Greta is greeted by a gothic looking mansion owned by by the Heelshire family, who talk highly of their son, Brahms. When it comes...

Although, I have seen worse. They gave it some 40 and 50 grades out of a possible 100 at the Metacritic.com site. The film stars: Ben Robson, Diana Hardcastle, James Russell, Jim Norton, Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans. We've added statements from the scarce, 2 critics that managed to give it a look-see. Katie Rife over at The A.V. Club, gave it a just average 50 grade, claiming: "At least, maybe The Boy can lead some novices to better, more original horror movies." Then Joe Leydon over at Variety, gave it a 40 grade. He stated: "Despite the assiduous grinding of plot mechanics by William Brent Bell (“The Devil Inside”) and scripter Stacey Menear,...

With their sinister smiles and dead-eyed stares, inanimate dolls are creepy, but they’re even more unsettling when brought to unnatural life. Filmmakers have long tapped into the scary potential of dolls, as evidenced by Child’s Play, Dolls, Annabelle, and many more. Now William Brent Bell is stepping into the sub-genre with The Boy, and The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan is set to star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene on AMC’s The Walking Dead) is taking on the lead role in The Boy, a horror-thriller that “centers on a nanny (Cohan) who is tasked with overseeing a lifelike doll by a bizarre couple who treat it as a real child. The couple use the doll as way to cope with the death of their young son, but the nanny becomes increasingly convinced that it is alive.”
