Like most shows on network television, “MasterChef” is in the middle of a two-week break as Fox doesn’t want to compete against NBC’s airing of the Tokyo Olympics. When we last checked in with our aspiring home cooks, the judges had just narrowed down the field to the Top 9. So when is “MasterChef” coming back? Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 11 at 8:00 p.m as that’s when the next “Legends” episode, titled “Elevated Street Food,” will finally air.
Here is how Fox describes this ninth episode of Season 11: “The pioneering king of the food truck revolution, Roy Choi, tasks the home cooks with making a street food dish worthy of a Michelin star restaurant.”

The July 21 episode of “MasterChef: Legends” ended with an emotional shocker as Tay Westberry was eliminated due to a technicality. This week’s task was to create a California-inspired dish using five ingredients: Santa Barbara prawns, sea urchin, wasabi, avocado and grapefruit. Unfortunately, Tay forgot his urchin butter in the refrigerator, so Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, Joe Bastianich and special guest judge Jonathan Waxman had no choice but to cut him from the Top 10.
“It breaks my heart to send you home,” Gordon told the 29-year-old radio host from Nebraska. “Tonight’s challenge was about using five ingredients and this is a competition, so we have to abide by the rules.” In truth, the judges thought Joseph Manglicmot made the worst dish of the week, but he “dodged a bullet” because of Tay’s oopsie. The other home cook in the bottom three was Alejandro Valdivia.

Hey,"MasterChef" fans. Tonight, July 21, 2021, another new episode of MasterChef's current season 11 did indeed air with judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich. They brought on a 4th, guest judge, which was the legendary chef Jonathan Waxman. The contestants were given a California mystery box, which featured five, California ingredients: Santa Barbara prawns, sea urchin, wasabi, avocado and grapefruit. The contestants had to make a dish that included all five of these ingredients. If they missed including one of the 5 ingredients, it meant automatic elimination. It was revealed that the contestant with the winning dish won a dinner for 4 at Chef Waxman's restaurant in New York. The contestants were given one hour to make their dish. During the competition, Alejandro said he was having a tough time because he was allergic to some of the ingredients.

Last week the “Top Chef” All-Stars got their Olympic Games on by cooking a six-course Kaiseki meal and Karen Akunowicz was eliminated for the second time. She faced off with Kevin Gillespie in “Last Chance Kitchen” and lost. Kevin then had to beat two out of three still-remaining chefs to stage a comeback, and he managed to do that, too. Brian Malarkey’s reaction to the fierce competitor coming back? “Good god!” Read on for our minute-by-minute takes on the 11th episode of Season 17.

The Lunchbox (movie)
It’s almost a given that a love for Indian cinema will eventually lead to a love of Indian food – so it’s no surprise that the Tiff Bell Lightbox has chosen to open their Food on Film series – a six-film event exploring food through film — with Ritesh Batra’s delightful 2013 film The Lunchbox. The film is lovely and funny and incredibly touching, and shows how a mis-delivered tiffin (lunchbox) brings together two seemingly disparate people — a neglected housewife (Nimrat Kaur) and a gruff widower (Irrfan Khan) on the verge of retirement from his civil service job — together.
Added to the joy of seeing a film is the fact that the series features a line-up of culinary experts who will engage in discussion of the films culinary themes, led by Toronto CBC morning host Matt Galloway.

The cooking competition "The Taste" returns tonight to ABC for its third season. The series introduced blind tasting of food to reality competitions--judges don't know whose food they're eating or even what's in the dish. It also brought Anthony Bourdain to a big, bright, glossy ABC reality show. The star of Travel Channel's Emmy-winning "No Reservations" and now CNN's "Parts Unknown" seems like perhaps the last person to gravitate to a "The Voice"-like competition for food, but when we talked Wednesday, one day before he was heading to Madagascar for "Parts Unknown," he was clearly, unabashedly enthusiastic about the series, which he also executive produces. When I asked about whether skeptical fans have now warmed to "The Taste" and his participation, Bourdain said, "I honestly don't think about. It's always a quality of life issue for me. Am I having fun? Am I working with people I like?...

It's actually really fun to watch the chefs cook hibachi-style. Maybe it's because I love Japanese food, but it's probably one...

Amidst the various food- and drink-heavy events at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, there were also opportunities for thoughtful discussions about the food industry. One of these events delved into the hot issue of reality TV, and how winning a food show can affect a chef's professional career and reputation. Moderated by Bobby Flay, the panel included chefs Richard Blais ("Top Chef All-Stars" winner), Marc Forgione ("Next Iron Chef" winner), Jonathan Waxman ("Top Chef Masters" participant), Stephanie Izard ("Top Chef" winner), Geoffrey Zakarian ("Next Iron Chef" winner) and Michael Symon ("Iron Chef").
Flay admitted that he had never moderated a panel before because he was always a panelist. He dove right into it though, and announced, "I don't want this to be a lovefest on what everyone's new projects are." Looks like he's fit for the job, as he sparked a lot of candid discussion.

James Beard, nonchalantly leaning on the counter.
Today, nearly 60 chefs from across the nation are gathered at Rockefeller Center, NYC "to celebrate family feasts" for the 26th annual Chef's Tribute: Taste of Home benefit event. The annual event attracts over 1,000 guests to the Center each year to tour booths set up on the closed ice rink and taste the amazing creations of some of America's most talented chefs. The proceeds from this illustrious event serve to benefit the Citymeals-on-Wheels, a program which delivers food to the elderly and homebound, cofounded by James Beard 1981. The first event, an al fresco collaboration of America's best and brightest chefs and winemakers, was held in June 1985, originally meant to celebrate James' 82nd birthday. This is a Recap of Top Chef D.C. (Season 7), Episode 3, entitled “Capitol Grill”, originally airing June 30, 2010. This thing is full of more spoilers than those Fat Kids In Washington! (I always thought that sounded funnier than fat cats. But them too.) Let’s get started. Hey there’s John! See you in the credits for the next fifteen months, John! Back at the house, Kenny is reading a card – “Have faith, have hope, and have courage,” says Kenny’s girlfriend Juicy. Her name is “Juicy?” They glossed right over that. “Get with the 90s, Danny dude, that’s what names are now!” – Some Skateboarding Chameleon. The rest of the contestanchefts are busy pairing off into random rivalries: Angelo is sitting in a garden upset about Kenny’s performance at last week’s Judge’s Table. Arnold is still mad about Kelly’s two-facedness during last week’s challenge. Ed goes “I hate…...

Ah, pub food. For all of its humble origins, British pub food is exactly what I crave on a long, cold night, conjuring up an image of a roaring fireplace and a nice pint of lager. It's earthy, homey, stick-to-your ribs sort of food and it's just as often terrible when it's made without care or love. But in the right hands and in the right kitchen, it's just the thing to banish the mid-winter blues. On this week's episode of Top Chef Masters ("Pub Food"), six master chefs from Season One--Jonathan Waxman, Ludo Lefebvre, Mark Peel, Rick Moonen, Wylie Dufresne, and Graham Elliot Bowles--returned with a second shot at glory as they reunited in the Top Chef kitchen to compete for charity, a spot in the next round of competition, and a chance to redeem themselves. But in order to do so they'd not only have to...

In the episode that saw the return of not so masterful chefs from Top Chef Masters season 1, simplicity won again, like in the last episode, and the chefs who learned their lessons from their first run prevailed.
Meet the Chefs of Top Chef Masters Season 2
Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto in New York City and Rick Moonen of Oceana also in NYC are advancing to the champions round, with their glamorized versions of (Irish) grub food receiving more stars than the other chefs. Jonathan lost to Art Smith and his fried chicken in the first season (pictured), while Rick lost to the very fiery / scary Michael Chiarello, who got as far as the top three.

From soul food to pub food, tonight's episode of Top Chef Masters will feature six not so new chefs who'll try to convince "high-brow" clients - in other words, the normal people you see on Top Chef Masters - that good food doesn't necessarily have to be made of unpronounceable ingredients.
Top Chef Masters' Season 2 Goes into Full Gear
The "seemingly impossible" challenge is to show these people that enjoyment can be found on reimagined pub grub. Competing will be Graham Elliot Bowles, Jonathan Waxman, Ludo Lefebvre, Mark Peel, Rick Moonen and Wylie Dufresne, who, as you probably notice, have all done Top Chef Masters in its inaugural season. Is it redemption for these chefs? Or rejection anew?...

One of our favorite reality shows, Top Chef Masters, returns for a second season tomorrow night, April 7 at 10:00 Pm.
In a very unusual twist for a reality show, Top Chef is inviting back past players for another attempt at the title. Graham Elliot Bowles, Wylie Dufresne, Ludo Lefebvre, Rick Moonen, Mark Peel, and Jonathan Waxman were all eliminated in the first round of Season 1, but they will return for a second shot at taking home the prize for their charity.
Also returning is host, Kelly Choi, and judges Gael Greene, James Oseland, and Jay Rayner. Joining them will be Gail Simmons who sits at judges table in the original Top Chef series as well.
From this sneak peak video, it looks like egos flare, knives fly, and a good time will be had by all viewers. The new cast is made up of a wide array of 22 culinary icons...

"Top Chef Masters 2" really turns up the heat with a slew of fun celebrity guests as well as returning chef'testants seeking redemption.
Among the guests will be the cast of "Modern Family" (perhaps a family style meal challenge?), "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening (yellow food?), Hank Azaria who voices Moe and others on "The Simpsons," "Lie to Me" actor Mekhi Phifer, Olympic swimmer Jason Lezak and a trio of the "Real Housewives of Orange County," Lynne Curtin, Alexis Bellino and Tamra Barney, reports EW.
The site also lists Andrew Zimmerman as a guest, but since Wikipedia says Zimmerman is a professor of German history at George Washington University, we're going to guess that they meant Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods." German food, while exotic to some and rich in history, probably isn't as challenging as what Zimmern will bring to the table. [Update: In a press release sent out Wednesday, Bravo confirmed Zimmern's participation.]
Now on to the chef'testants.

Less than two months before Top Chef Masters season 2 kicks off, Entertainment Weekly has revealed the list of the top-caliber chefs that will be competing for the title of, well, Top Chef Masters. If there was much bickering and not-so-professional attitude on the regular Top Chef last season (yes, this guy named Mike Isabella, among others), again prepare to be dazzled by top-quality dishes and less animosity between these world-renowned chef-testants.
Among the 22 competitors are six returning chefs from Top Chef Masters' inaugural season, including Graham Elliot Bowles, Wylie Dufresne, Ludo Lefebvre, Rick Moonen, Mark Peel, and Jonathan Waxman. Among the more notable names in the lineup, meanwhile, are Chicago chef Tony Mantuano, New York's David Burke, and Los Angeles' Susan Feniger.

One thing that has separated Top Chef Masters from its predecessor is that these master chefs--for the most part, anyway--really do seem to love and support one another in a way that the hungry chefs on Top Chef really don't seem to do. This week's episode of Top Chef Masters ("Trick In A Box") could have been a prime opportunity for the chefs to stab each other in the back but the elimination challenge--in which Art Smith, Jonathan Waxman, Roy Yamaguchi, and Michael Cimarusti all had to shop for one another and prepare a mystery box of ingredients--resulted not in sabotage and subterfuge, but rather a celebration of both ingredients and one another. Aw. I thought that this week's gathering of master chefs was one of the toughest groups yet and each of them had some major strengths they were playing for, plus they each had such different, individual styles of cooking.

This is it, folks. Tonight's episode of Top Chef Masters will wrap up the preliminary stages of the Top Chef upgrade to determine the sixth and final contestant to compete in the champions round, where they will battle it out more or less the same way as the original Top Chef.
Tonight's episode will feature Hawaii's Roy Yamaguchi of Roy's, Chicago's Art Smith of Table 52, Michael Cimarusti of Providence in Los Angeles, and New York City's Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto. As usual, the chefs will compete for their respective charities. Smith will cook for Common Thread, Waxman, for Meals on Wheels, Cimarusti for the Grameen Foundation, and Yamaguchi for Imua Family Services.
