Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

It's official. The CW, as we know it, is over.
After months of speculation about the future of the young-skewing network, we finally have some clarity.
Nexstar Media Group revealed Monday that it will acquire a 75 percent ownership stake in the network.
Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global will each keep a 12.5 percent minority stake.
The move means that both companies will continue making select programming for the network.
However, Nexstar will also be looking to other companies for content, meaning that there will likely be some huge changes to the slate as a whole.
“Our acquisition of The CW is strategically and operationally compelling, as it will enable us to leverage our operational experience to improve the network’s performance through our management of this powerful national platform,” Nexstar CEO Perry Sook said in a statement.
“We plan to apply the same strict financial standards to operating The CW...

Bust out those golden buzzers because NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” scored both the highest ratings and the biggest overall audience among all broadcast networks in primetime Tuesday night. The long-running competition series earned an impressive 0.8 rating in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demographic while also attracting 6.4 million total viewers.
Unsurprisingly, “AGT’s” massive totals helped prop NBC up as the highest-rated and most-watched broadcast network on the night. But that doesn’t mean that rival Big Four networks just packed up without a fight.

It’s a swift exit for the Nancy Drew spinoff Tom Swift as The CW has canceled the series after just six episodes. As reported by Deadline, the network has decided to drop the series despite liking the show, creatively speaking. The cancelation is said to be based on performance; Tom Swift is one of The CW’s lowest viewed series on linear, with 535K viewers in Live+7, as well as on streaming. The options on the cast were set to expire on Thursday, June 30. However, according to Deadline, CBS Studios, which is behind the mystery drama, is trying to extend those options so that they can shop the series to other broadcasters and platforms. Tom Swift premiered on May 31, 2022, and stars Tian Richards as the young billionaire inventor Tom, who is launched into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after his father’s disappearance. Richards’ Tom was...

Tom Swift is not long for this world.
The CW is pulling the plug on the Nancy Drew spinoff a month into its run.
Deadline broke the news Thursday, confirming that the network will air the entirety of the season.
The series got off to a mediocre start in the ratings in May, and is averaging around 500,000 viewers with a week of DVR factored in.
In any other season, those numbers might have been enough for The CW to keep the show around.
However, these are difficult times for the network.
Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount are exploring a sale, with recent supports suggesting Nexstar could be in line to purchase 75.
The CW canceled beloved dramas, Legends of Tomorrow, Legacies, Charmed, Dynasty, Roswell, New Mexico, In the Dark, Naomi, and Batwoman.

“Tom Swift” has been canceled by The CW after one season, Variety has confirmed.
The news comes less than a month after the series, a spinoff of “Nancy Drew,” premiered on May 31. Sources close to the project tell Variety the decision came down to ratings, as the show failed to find an audience via linear TV or streaming. The five episodes of the series that have aired so far drew 0.1 ratings in the 18-49 demographic.
The news also comes a little over a month after The CW canceled a sizable amount of their originals, including “Charmed,” “Dynasty,” “Rosewell, New Mexico,” “4400,” “Legacies,” “Naomi” and “Batwoman.” In January, it was announced that Nexstar Media Group is in negotiations with the channel to acquire a sizable stake in it, after years of being predominantly owned by WarnerMedia.

The CW’s “Nancy Drew” spin-off “Tom Swift” has been canceled at the network after one season. The CBS Studios show, which premiered May 31, will finish its Season 1 run but will not be returning to the broadcast network, TheWrap has confirmed.
While the cancellation comes amid poor viewership numbers and is one of the network’s lowest-rated series on linear and digital, “Tom Swift” is the latest in a long line of shows to be axed by the network, which canceled such programs like the popular “Legacies,” “Batwoman” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”
The wave of cancellations comes amid the CW’s looming sale as parent companies Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery plan to divest from the joint venture and focus on bringing their best series in-house to their respective streaming services nationally and internationally. CEO Mark Pedowitz said in a conference call with reporters in May that “none of these were easy decisions.

The CW‘s upcoming Nancy Drew spinoff Tom Swift has added Marquise Vilsón (Blindspot), April Parker Jones (Supergirl), and Albert Mwangi (Bump) to round out the series-regular cast. Tom Swift was co-created by Melinda Hsu Taylor, Noga Landau, and Cameron Johnson and follows the serialized adventures of its titular gay billionaire inventor, played by Tian Richards. After his father’s disappearance, Swift is dragged into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena, where he must stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group that’s determined to stop him. According to Deadline, Vilsón, who has guest-starred in series such as Blindspot and Tales of the City, will play Tom’s bodyguard, Isaac Vega. The character is described as “trans, pansexual, and a consummate badass” who has simmering feelings for Tom but never lets them get in the way of his duties. Ashleigh Murray is making her way back to The CW.
The Riverdale and Katy Keene alum has booked a series regular role on Tom Swift, the forthcoming Nancy Drew spinoff.
Deadline broke the news, revealing that Murry would be on board as Zenzi Fullerton.
The character is described as “efficient and effervescent, but nobody’s fool.”
She is Tom's best friend and has been in his life since childhood.
She’s also “one of the few people who can keep up with Tom and read him for filth when necessary.”
Tom Swift aired as a backdoor pilot earlier last year and garnered decent ratings and a good response from fans.
The series follows the “serialized adventures of the billionaire inventor who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father."

Ashleigh Murray (Riverdale) will star alongside Tian Richards (who plays the titular character), Deadline reports. Her character, Zenzi Fullerton, is described as “efficient and effervescent, but nobody’s fool.” As Tom’s best friend since childhood, Zenzi considers him family. She’s also “one of the few people who can keep up with Tom and read him for filth when necessary.” Richards was introduced as Tom Swift in the Season 2 episode of Nancy Drew, “The Celestial Visitor,” which aired May 12, 2021. (That same episode also introduced us to his brilliance and inventions.) A few months later, on August 30, the CW gave the spinoff a straight-to-series order. The series follows the gay billionaire inventor’s serialized adventures. Following the shocking disappearance of his father, he ends up in...
