Exclusive: Blockchain-based streamer Vabble is building an advisory board of high-profile U.S. media execs.
The company has added former CBS Studios sales exec Barry Chamberlain, ex-IMAX distribution chief Philip Groves and eOne marketing head Joanna Miles to its advisory board. They join former Universal Pictures EVP John C. Hall, who joined the board recently.
Vabble, which is gearing up to launch its service, allows indie filmmakers to directly distribute their films globally using blockchain technology. Like several other blockchain streaming platforms, the company’s founders claim to have identified imbalances in the film distribution ecosystem and plan to provide a decentralized alternative to the Hollywood studios and other majors.
The company says its streaming service will incorporate elements of blockchain tech, on-demand streaming and social media experiences, and is billing it as “a hybrid Snapchat and Netflix combination.”

Exclusive: Former Universal Pictures Distribution and Marketing EVP John C. Hall has joined the team at American-European media fund Apx Group, as it continues to restructure and expand ahead of a planned listing on the New York Stock Exchange later this year.
Hall has been appointed special consultant to the Board of Directors and Head of the Marketing and Distribution Committee of the board of directors of Apx Group.
The Los Angeles-based executive will work directly with Apx Group’s London-based Global CEO, Shelley Hammond and the freshly announced Director of Distribution and Acquisition Anthony Buckner.

Exclusive: Cardinal Trio Pictures principals –actor/filmmaker Chasen Parker, former Universal executive John C. Hall, and Lokal Media co-founder Nick Scherma– have secured a financing deal with Bakrr Media Group.
Cardinal Trio Pictures will be receiving up to €15 million a year ($17.3M) for projects for a five-year term.

The production company immediately has a number of projects in development:
—The untitled Enron Project which is written and will be directed by Parker. In a revisionist’s history 1999, an employee at Enron starts to figure out what the crooked real-life executives are up to and attempts to blackmail them, but upon humiliating him, he leaves with a plot of revenge.
—Killer will be directed by Michelle Cutolo and is written by T Zhang. The story follows two unlikely sleuths, bound together by a dark, shared past, as they pursue a serial kidnapper to Colombia. Upon arrival, the hunters become the hunted, and our heroes realized that the true enemy lies within.
—The Token Groomsman is written by Hall.
