The state of Pennsylvania is getting serious about severe weather.
According to Wkbn, the state passed Libre’s Law this year, which bolsters the penalties for animal abuse and neglect cases, including cases in which pets are left outside in the extreme heat or cold.
Under Libre’s Law, a dog cannot be left leashed and alone outside for longer than 30 minutes in temperatures that exceed 90 degrees or drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Pet owners found violating these restrictions could face up to $750 in fines and up to 90 days in jail, reports The Sacramento Bee.

Chicago – CBS’s “Blue Bloods” and “The Good Wife,” both recently released on DVD (first season for the former, second season for the latter), were interesting stories in April of this year as ratings watchdogs expressed concerns that either or both could be canceled despite loyal fan bases. Both were given the reprieve because they have viewers who just won’t give up on them. See why with this stellar pair of releases.
DVD Rating: 4.0/5.0
If I had to pick one of these two ratings-challenged shows it would be no contest — “The Good Wife” is one of the best dramas on TV. If we’re talking purely network television, I’m not sure there’s even a contest. What other shows could compete with an ensemble like this one with five Emmy nominees and the winner for Best Actress? Juliana Margulies is giving one of the most complex and engaging performances on television right now,...

Let’s all shake ourselves free of the ugliness that was last week’s Round-Up and bask in what may be the strongest week yet (I know I’ve said this before). This week the focus is on several films that played at Cannes last month, along with a poster for a much anticipated re-release of an R.W. Fassbinder film, an overdue horror movie, and possibly the most anticipated film of the year. There isn’t a weak poster in the bunch. Enjoy.
1. Entrance: Grade B
Black and pink doesn’t always work, but the subtle shade of pink in this case works well, and blends nicely with the city scape.
2. Oslo: Grade B-
The font is very sloppy, albeit purposeful, but it is too small, and for someone with a touch of Ocd it is a little nerve racking. However, the simple elegance of the white rose against the black background is great,...

As I’ve mentioned before, movie posters are not much in evidence around the theaters of Cannes. One striking exception though was this stunning poster for Uszula Antoniak’s Code Blue which had a couple of enormous banners in the market and in one of the pavilions along the beach. (Though more commented on than the poster were the signs posted outside the screenings that warned that the film “may hurt the audience feelings” and, unfortunately, the film itself was one of the least liked films in Cannes, earning a D grade in indieWire’s critics poll.)
With the help of ace detective Joe Bowman, I have assembled a few of the other standout posters for films in this year’s Un Certain Regard, Le Quinzaine (Director’s Fortnight) and other sections of the festival. One thing I must mention is how much I love the logo for the Quinzaine,...

Though I can't claim to be Stephen King's number one fan - that distinction goes to a certain Annie Wilkes - I've been a constant reader for the last thirty years-odd, and so I think I'm entitled to suggest that when it comes to Maine's favourite son, I have a fair idea what I'm talking about.
My association with the world's favourite bogeyman began way back in 1979 when my best friend lent me a slim novel called Carrie, which I read and loved (even if I didn't completely understand the mysteries of the, ahem, female condition of the opening chapter until my mother explained a few biological facts to her somewhat confused nine year-old son), and which was quickly followed by The Shining, Salem's Lot (still my favourite vampire novel) and the Night Shift short story collection - which spawned several lacklustre films including Children Of The Corn, Sometimes They Come Back...
