Each writer will meet with their dedicated mentor once a week to elevate the scripts, create pitch materials and set up pitch practices. Final Draft also provided a copy of its screenwriting software for all the mentees.
The first set of mentees are Lisa Sanaye Dring, writing duo Lee Hubilla and Tea Ho, Ben Kim, Ryan Kim, Julie Lew, Kevin Ramlal and Ivan Tsang.
Writing mentors include Lana Cho, Sasie Sealy, Matt K. Turner, Dennis Lee, Diane Paragas, Matthew Okumura and April Shih.
The program also consists of six panels, fireside chats and masterclasses that are created to help the mentees learn how to navigate the industry.

Exclusive: “What’s wonderful about TV shows, we can go so deep and flesh out so much more with meat on the backbone,” exclaims Mark Millar of the adaption of his Jupiter’s Legacy comics to a Netflix series. “You know, characters can have a few pages that can take up an hour’s television time and I love that,” the executive producer adds. “I love the fact we were able to make something so crazy.”
Shifting from the 1930s to the present day and over the generations literally and figuratively, the super powered Jupiter’s Legacy is the first of a series of projects that Millar and the streamer have been planning since Netflix bought the Superman: Red Son author’s Millarworld imprint a few years ago.

Netflix has lifted the cowl on “Jupiter’s Legacy,” the streaming service’s upcoming television adaptation of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s superhero comic book series. The streamer revealed the trailer for the show on Wednesday. The plot of streamer’s eight-episode “Jupiter’s Legacy” is derived from Millar’s comic book series, which was first published in 2013. The original comic book, the plot of which spanned decades, centered on the world’s first generation of superheroes and their children, whom are expected to carry on their parents’ legacy.
Much like Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s “The Boys” (and Eric Kripke’s ongoing television adaptation for Amazon Prime Video), the original “Jupiter’s Legacy” carved a niche for itself in a crowded genre by using superheroes to examine social, political, and economic issues in the United States. Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming superhero series, Jupiter’s Legacy, which is set to arrive May 7th.
Adding a dash of family drama to the classic superhero formula, the show is centered around a major changing of the guard, as the world’s first superheroes prepare to pass the proverbial torch to the next generation. But that shift, of course, comes with all sorts of angst as the younger heroes must learn to not only harness their powers but live up to the expectations of both their parents and the world.

Everyone was convinced Heller truly died in the middle of Wembley Stadium in a missile strike, but there was a major hint at his continued survival: the lack of a silent clock at the end of the previous episode. The silent clock is a 24 tradition to pay tribute to the death of a major character. It felt slightly jarring that Heller did not get that treatment, and now it’s clear why.
Pleased as I am at William Devane’s Heller surviving, it feels like a cheap cop-out, as his apparent death was impactful and shocking, and resonated deeply. While we should be used...

And so it is that one of 24‘s top love stories enters a new chapter. Jack and Audrey have an incredible history together, even by Jack’s standards. He killed her ex-husband, for heaven’s sake. They haven’t seen each other for years, and now they cross paths once again, with Jack a suspected terrorist (which everyone with half a brain in this universe should know is hogwash) and Audrey firmly entrenched in her father’s administration. Before the star-crossed lovers finally reconvene, there is plenty of other business to get through, most of it related directly to the impending terror attacks.
After saving Jack’s life, Kate manages to slip away with the flight key and send the data to Chloe.

His plan to star in a second action franchise with Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit may not have worked out quite as he hoped, but that hasn’t deterred Chris Pine from the thriller business. He’s attached to star in The Line for director David Gordon Green.Green has shied away from action films following Pineapple Express and Your Highness, and he’s back in dramatic mode at least with his latest, Joe. The Line will be different: written by Walking Dead writer-producer Sang Kyu Kim, it’ll find Pine as an agent in a downward spiral after losing his family. Circumstances land him as the caretaker of a 10-year-old child who is orphaned by a shootout between criminal cartels.Taking the boy under his wing, the agent discovers there are enemies swarming to kill both him and the child on either side of the law, and he has to go on the run.

We didn’t know it when docu-helmer Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Unknown Known) signed up for it last July, but by the looks of several industry players, he might have landed on the best screenplay of the bunch.
The annual “The Black List” unveiled its “favorite unproduced screenplays” of the year, and ranking at the top with a slim margin of a lead was Andrew Sodroski’s Holland, Michigan – a project that should begin lensing in April of next year with Naomi Watts possibly toplining. With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. Production for last year’s top film, Draft Day, is underway with the theatrical release scheduled for April, so there’s a pretty good chance that...

What’s poppin’ cool kids! Well, let me tell ya!
In my opinion, the Hottest list in Hollywood to be on, The Black List, has just announced their 2013 winners! The Black List is the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted on by over 250 film execs. This year 72 scripts made the cut in the 2013 edition of the yearly ranking compiled since 2004 by baller Franklin Leonard.
Congrats to all the writers that made the list! I’m especially proud of my close dear friend, Latino screenwriter Hernany Perla who made the list!
The winners are…
Mississippi Mud by Elijah Bynum
Patient Z by Michael Le
Make A Wish by Zach Frankel
Randle Is Benign by Damien Ober
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
Queen Of Hearts by Stephanie Shannon
Holland, Michigan by Andrew Sodroski

While Prisoners, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Spectacular Now have generated positive reviews at the box office, they also share one common distinction: They were all recognized on Franklin Leonard’s Black List, an annual compendium of the year’s most-liked un-produced screenplays as determined by the hundreds of executives in Hollywood that spend their lives reading scripts.

If you’ve got post-Oscars malaise or are saddened by the expiration of awards season, take heart: There are still prizes to be given out. Nominations for the annual Bram Stoker Awards, bestowed by the Horror Writers Association, were announced late last week.
Last year’s winner in the screenplay category was “American Horror Story,” and Ahs has been nominated once again, this time for an episode penned by executive producer Tim Minear called “Dark Cousin.”
It’s the episode where we meet Frances Conroy as the Angel of Death – or, as Minear clarifies, the Angel of Despair. “She doesn’t just show up because someone’s going to die; it’s always in the instance where someone has a choice whether to give up or go on.”
Minear says his chances of winning the Bram Stoker Award this year are “probably not very good,” perhaps...

*there are spoilers here. Director: Guy Ferland. Writers: Frank Darabont, Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard and Sang Kyu Kim. Cast: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Michael Rooker, David Morrissey, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Emily Kinney, and Scott Wilson. Wow, the writers on "The Walking Dead" continue to create surprises at almost every turn. With so many central and minor characters dying in Seas. 3, this series will be over by Epis. 6, though. In "Killer Within," Woodbury continues to be a psychopath's playzone. Meanwhile, the supposed safety of the prison is broken up by a minor villain's well orchestrated plan for revenge. Two important characters die. The unpredictability of "The Walking Dead" continues to be one of the show's greatest and most powerful elements. This episode was split into two stories: one at Woodbury and the other at the prison.

The Walking Dead: 3×04 – Killer Within
Stars: Andrew Lincoln, David Morrissey, Sarah Wayne Callies, Danai Gurira, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus | Written by Sang Kyu Kim | Directed by Guy Ferland
**Spoilers Lie Beyond Here**
Death has been hunting our fair travelers since the show began, quite literally. The reek of death surrounds them every single day and they were road wary as the season began. They found the prison, and behind those walls, they found sanctuary. Or so it seems, I guess. The irony that they’re not as safe trapped behind walls as they are on the road, with no walls, is downright troubling. But, tired and beaten has done things to them. They’ve been torn down and fought to stay strong. The prison represented something, it represented hope. But, right from the get-go, things started falling apart. And now, things are beaten and broken far beyind repair.

The Walking Dead Episode 304
“Killer Within”
Written By: Sang Kyu Kim
Directed By: Guy Ferland
Original Airdate: 4 November 2012
In This Episode...
Let’s start in Woodbury. Andrea and Michonne are planning on leaving. Michonne is still untrusting of the perfection of Woodbury, and she takes a look at the recently acquired military vehicles and sees evidence that the National Guardsmen were killed by humans, not zombies. She has made a plan for her and Andrea, to head out to the coast in the hopes that the water will offer them some protection. Maybe they will even take a boat, find an island, and live without fear of the dead. The thought of not seeing any other humans ever again does not appeal to Andrea. After arriving in Woodbury, she realized how much she missed human interaction. She meets with the Governor, who tells her if things get too hairy out there,...

The Walking Dead, Season 3, Episode 4: “Killer Within”
Written by Sang Kyu Kim
Directed by Guy Ferland
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
If there was any doubt that The Walking Dead‘s third season intends to xorrect the show’s pacing issues for good, “Killer Within” settles those fears, though it might actually over-correct. Not only do we lose two (possibly three!) main characters, but the long-promised sense of all-enveloping doom offered by Robert Kirkman’s comic universe has finally, definitively sunk in. Is that a good thing?
One of the hardest things a work of art can do is to convince us it’ll make the moves we logically intuit that it can’t, or won’t. “Killer Within,” which is pretty easily the most brutal, emotionally devastating episode of the show yet, does just that. After the prisoner Rick sent to his apparent doom returns to wreak havoc on the crew,...

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed The Walking Dead TV series, but always felt that the first two seasons were leading to something bigger and better. The early episodes of The Walking Dead Season 3 showed a more polished and ambitious season, but “Killer Within” strikes a perfect balance and is the best episode of The Walking Dead to date.
Similar to previous reviews, I will give my impressions on the episode without going into major spoilers. With that being said, you will not want to continue reading if you haven’t watched any of Season 3 so far. Also, I strongly urge those who cannot watch the east coast premiere to avoid Twitter and Facebook in order to appreciate this episode.
Episode 4, titled “Killer Within”, starts off with a bit of a mystery. Someone has lured walkers onto the prison grounds and the group must not only deal with that threat, but figure out who is behind this.

After that absolutely excellent season finale, The Walking Dead’s showrunner Glen Mazzara once again took the time to answer questions from the press. He talked about the finale, about season 3, about Michonne’s hood, about Carl’s ability to sneak away, and more. At SciFi Mafia we’re particularly excited that he answered my question about Season 3 writers with a pretty big announcement.
Michonne
Michonne is one of the lead characters in the graphic novel, so we’re excited to finally introduce her. She is a loner. She’s a kick ass character. She’s very dynamic and we really see her as a very, very important addition to the cast. She’s a significant character and she’ll be carrying a lot of story, so we’re excited about her.
We’re also excited about Danai Gurira who is the young actress who is going to play this role,...

ESPN Films is moving up the court with its theatrical features.
The unit is developing a pair of scripted projects inspired by true events: a story of the basketball-playing grandson of infamous cult leader Jim Jones, and the tale of Louis Mulkey, a beloved high school hoops coach who died on duty as a firefighter. Both projects derive from reporting the company undertook on its network and its Web site.
The Jones pic -- which will be written by Sang Kyu Kim, who also has written for Starz's "Crash" series -- will center on Jim Jones Jr., the son of the reverend who lost most of his family in the 1978 Jonestown massacre. He went on to raise a family including a son, Rob, who now plays basketball for the University of San Diego.
