Netflix is about to make its Broadway producing debut, joining the team of Peter Morgan’s upcoming play Patriots.
The play from the creator of the Netflix signature series The Crown arrives on Broadway April 1 for a 12-week engagement following a record-breaking run at London’s Almeida Theatre and a sold-out 12-week West End transfer at the Noël Coward Theatre. Opening night at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre is April 22.
The play is set in 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union and chronicles the rise of oligarchs like billionaire Boris Berezovsky (Michael Stuhlbarg) and a little-known deputy mayor of St. Petersburg named Vladimir Putin (Will Keen). When an eventual successor to President Boris Yeltsin is needed, Berezovsky turns to Putin, whose ruthless rise threatens Berezovsky’s reign and sets off a confrontation between the two powerful, fatally flawed men.

"Do you have any clue what your son did to my daughter?" Wow. This short film will stir something up inside of you, and stick with you for days and weeks after. Light My Fire is a short film written & directed by filmmaker Bobb Barito, which first premiered at the Austin Film Festival last year. The indie film is about a father who goes to over to confront his daughter's violent boyfriend on the Fourth of July. But as we know, expectations are different from reality. The short stars Ed Moran, Colin Walker, Rosie Benton, Dante Palminteri, and Lizzy DeClement. This film takes on toxic masculinity head on, and as Sotw so perfectly says, it shows that "rage is easy, but comforting is hard." Indeed. It's such a powerful, provocative, upsetting short but that's what makes it superb. So much is conveyed in a glance, just a look. A must watch.

New York -- Mekhi Phifer is not used to being shouted at, but it's part of his Broadway debut.
The 37-year-old actor, best known for the TV series "ER" and the film "8 Mile," is discovering that audiences aren't silent while watching him in "Stick Fly," Lydia R. Diamond's complex drama about a black family.
"People are spirited when they see this play," he says, laughing.
Both white and black audience members in the Cort Theatre are known to burst out with spontaneous advice for the actors or to otherwise clearly telegraph their reaction to dramatic situations. "I had to get used to that," he says. "It's not very typical for Broadway – at least the Broadway plays that I've seen."
Phifer plays Flip LeVay, a successful plastic surgeon and ladies' man who attended Exeter and Harvard. Sparks fly when he and his younger brother bring their respective girlfriends – one black, one...

"Temporal Powers" is an excellent play, beautifully acted and directed. When it was over, I wanted to lock myself in a dark room with a full bottle and contemplate the futility of love and life.
But that would only be when the depression lifted.
As they say in Ireland, it is a grand play, and this is as Irish as it gets. Written by the not-well-enough-known Teresa Deevy (1894-1963), this was first staged at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in 1932.
Now it's at the Mint Theater, one of off-Broadway's powerhouses. Steps from the Broadway theaters, the Mint is a world away because it is on the third floor of an old building. Here, a soft Irish fiddle is piped in as the lights go up on the set. The set is the same for the three acts.
