The so-called “Strictly curse” has been a tabloid mainstay for at least a decade, founded on the idea that participating on Strictly Come Dancing (whether as a celebrity or a professional dancer) threatens the status of the relationship you’re in when you sign up.
Stories of its destructive power arrive like clockwork each winter. Along with forgotten B-listers and stars of Holby City and/or EastEnders hitting the dance floor, hysterical headlines will report on Strictly duos left so erotically charged in pasodoble rehearsals that they dump their spouses.
Presenter Claudia Winkleman has repeatedly shot down the curse, once saying that it’s less a supernatural occurrence as merely the Strictly experience being “intoxicating”. It is also true that dancing is an obvious aphrodisiac. Regardless whether you're rehearsing an intimate routine or not, dancing releases endorphins and makes you happy (it’s science!). Similarly, throwing yourself into a diligent...

For years, Strictly Come Dancing has been providing TV audiences with Saturday night entertainment and some truly unforgettable performances.
First airing in 2004 with Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly as hosts, Strictly seemed like a celebrity reality TV show like any other.
But, the show soon became a huge national and international hit, with everyone from politicians to YouTubers taking on the challenge of learning to ballroom dance.
Along the way, there have been some performances you just can’t forget regardless of whether they’re worthy of a perfect 40 or burnt onto your brain for all the wrong reasons.
From the very best to the very, very worst, here are 12 of Strictly’s most memorable moments.
Ed Balls does “Gangnam Style”
When Ed Balls of “tweeting his own name” fame was announced as a contestant, it was assumed that he would be a joke act eliminated in one of the first weeks.

Speaking on 'Good Morning Britain' this morning (18.01.16), the brunette beauty said: ''I didn't like it [the way she announced it]. I was shocked that she was making this announcement and taking this opportunity. I mean, it was a lack of good...

The BBC have denied rumours that Strictly Come Dancing's Jay McGuiness and professional dance partner Aliona Vilani have had a series of blazing rows over Jay messaging other dancers from the show.
It had been claimed in The Sun that the 25-year-old Wanted singer has exchanged texts with dancers Ola Jordan and Kristina Rihanoff, and fellow contestant Georgia May Foote.
But now a BBC Strictly source has told Digital Spy: "This story is complete nonsense, there have been no rows."
Jay scored an impressive total of 34 points with his American smooth to 'Lil Red Riding Hood' with Aliona over the weekend, and is currently placed at No. 2 in our ranking of potential Strictly winners.
The star also recently denied romance rumours with 31-year-old Russian-Kazakhstani Aliona - who married businessman Vincent Kavanagh last year - saying: "I'm not going to let them bother me and neither are Aliona and her husband.

Daniel O'Donnell has admitted that nerves played a big part in his exit from Strictly Come Dancing.
The singer noted that as much as he enjoyed Strictly, there was consistently something in his way when it came to dancing to a choreographed piece.
"I tried, I have to say I tried, but I didn't feel as comfortable as I thought I would before the competition started," he said.
"If I could have sorted my own nerves out, it would have been a tremendous experience for me.
"Really, every Saturday night I was dancing against my nerves – I wasn't competing against anybody!"
O'Donnell added that he forgot everything in the dance-off - "my feet stuck to the floor!" - and that his nerves "didn't allow me to express myself as good as I could".
Every cloud has a silver lining, though, and he concluded that he was glad his nerves didn't...

Strictly Come Dancing's Daniel O'Donnell has defended dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff from negativity in the media after leaving the show this evening (October 18).
Rihanoff received negative press after confirming recently that she and ex-Strictly partner Ben Cohen are in a relationship.
Speaking to Digital Spy and others, O'Donnell considered whether Rihanoff's negative coverage affected his own popularity, saying: "Oh, not at all. No. And I think if people knew Kristina and knew the type of person she is – and just the fact of the wonderful work she does for charity."
He added: "I think if that was written about it would give a very balanced view of the good person she is.
"I hope [my wife] Majella and myself, yes, will be able to keep in touch with her and Ben [Cohen] yes."
O'Donnell also said he wasn't at all fazed by the speculation that Kristina was "gutted" to be paired with him,...

Bruno: "That was warming up nicely. The samba has a carefree feel to it, but a couple of times there you got a little tangled and it kind of stopped it a little bit. The technique is actually very very hard. It was a bit on and off."

Daniel O'Donnell fears Kristina Rihanoff ''might not be alive'' after their dance on 'Strictly Come Dancing' this Saturday (17.10.15). The ballroom partners will be dancing the American Smooth on the live BBC One show and the Irish crooner is very nervous he is going to mess up the lifts and drop Kristina onto the floor. Appearing on BBC Two spin-off show 'It Takes Two', he said: ''There are lifts. And I'm afraid that come Sunday (18.10.15), she might not be alive! But anyway, I will try to keep her safe. It's not about the lift; it's the landing that's the problem! But...

Daniel O'Donnell has become the third star to be voted off 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The Irish crooner and his professional partner Kristina Rihanoff are the latest pair to leave the BBC One dance show after failing to impress with their American Smooth to Frank Sinatra's 'Fly Me To The Moon'. Daniel and Kristina lost the dance off to Kirsty Gallacher and Brendan Cole on Sunday (18.10.15). Anthony Ogogo and Iwan Thomas have already been eliminated. Meanwhile, Anton du Beke and Katie Derham topped the leaderboard after wowing the judges on Saturday (17.10.15) with their Viennese Waltz to Elvis Presley's 'If...

Strictly's Daniel O'Donnell has suggested Kristina Rihanoff probably deserved to be paired with "a young sports star" instead of him.
The 53-year-old Irish crooner is partnered up with professional Russian dancer Rihanoff - who is currently dating former partner and ex-rugby player Ben Cohen - but he told The Sun: "It would have been nice for Kristina to get a young sports star.
"She got me, but she seems happy enough."
On Rihanoff's relationship with Cohen - who's still married to his wife of 13 years Abbie - O'Donnell continued: "None of us can help who you fall in love with."
He was, however, keen to assure that it's "strictly dancing" between the pair, and that his wife Majella "was never threatened" by their coupling.
"I think the three of us could be good friends. It is strictly dancing between Kristina and I," he added.

Strictly Come Dancing was all very pleasant last week - everyone danced and had a lovely time. We even had a wardrobe malfunction, courtesy of Anthony Ogogo and his trouser-splitting jive. Strictly Come Dancing's Anita Rani made a rather unusual discovery on Countryfile recently, spotting a "rare Russian breed" in the undergrowth.
The presenter was surveying the landscape for wildlife when she stumbled across her Strictly partner Gleb Savchenko.
Strictly Come Dancing: How much do you Really know about the show? Take our quiz to find out
The footage will air on Sunday's (October 4) episode of Countryfile, which starts at 6.15pm on BBC One.
The pair have impressed during the early stages of the show, and Digital Spy has already ranked Rani right at the top of the BBC One ballroom dancing competition.
Elsewhere, Strictly's Kristina Rihanoff was gutted to be paired with Daniel O'Donnell, according to Craig Revel Horwood.
And Alesha Dixon has revealed that she once threw up during a Strictly dress rehearsal... because she was hungover.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One this weekend.

Oh dear: there's trouble in Strictly Come Dancing paradise. Judge Craig Revel Horwood has been stirring the pot by suggesting that pro Kristina Rihanoff was "gutted" to be paired with Daniel O'Donnell, while another report suggested that Oti Mabuse thought her celeb Anthony Ogogo was an "arsehole" before they started working together (Anthony's insisted that's not true).
But both of those duos could have had it a lot worse, as these six disastrous partnerships from the past prove:
1. Lynda Bellingham & Darren Bennett (series seven, 2009)
How far did they get? Finished in 13th place
What's the problem? We didn't know it at the time, but Lynda's widower Michael Pattemore revealed in his book My Lynda that she didn't get on with her partner Darren - because he was a "miserable git" who wanted to dance solidly with No Fun Allowed. If Strictly Come Dancing wasn't show-stopping enough already, viewers will soon have the chance to watch one of its performances in a brand new format.
BBC One has announced that a new 360-degree video will be made available after the results show airs on Sunday (October 2).
The video will see the show's professional dancers perform a routine, with the 360-degree element enabling viewers to watch it from "every angle imaginable".
The BBC has also suggested that viewers use their own headsets to experience the video as intended. Suggested suppliers are listed here:

Strictly Come Dancing's Kristina Rihanoff was gutted to be paired with Daniel O'Donnell, according to Craig Revel Horwood.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the judge made reference to Rihanoff's relationships with previous celebrity in past years of the show.
"When she got paired with [O'Donnell], I think she was gutted!" Horwood said. "But it was rather obvious she wasn't going to get a hot, young celeb after everything that has happened.
"It's natural to fall in love with your dance partner when you're spending so much time together, and Kristina's managed a few times! But somehow I don't think that will be the case this time around."
Rihanoff, who dated retired boxer Joe Calzaghe after they were paired up in 2009, recently confirmed that she and ex-rugby player Ben Cohen are in a relationship.
"We are in a committed relationship, and of course, part of that involves love," she said at the time.

We bathed in glitter, donned some lycra and quickstepped our way down to the Strictly Come Dancing studios on Friday night for the very first live show of the series - and it was just as exciting as we'd hoped.
But while we were obviously thrilled by the dances and entertained by the judges, there were a few things that the cameras didn't pick up:
1. The audience get warmed up in the best way
It's not particularly surprising that the audience are played music while they're waiting for the show to begin. What's brilliant is that all the songs are dancing-related. 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody', 'Dance The Night Away' and 'Dancing In The Moonlight' were among the tunes pumped out over the sound system.
2. Being a celebrity doesn't get you special treatment (well, not always, anyway)
Of course the famous faces taking part in Strictly have some famous friends...
