Mike Pinder, co-founding member and keyboardist of the Moody Blues, died at the age of 82 on Wednesday, April 24th. He was the last surviving founder of the English rock band.
Pinder’s family and former Moody Blues bandmate John Lodge announced his death today via a statement on Facebook. The family noted that his final days were “filled with music” and that he passed peacefully at his Northern California residence.

Since the lockdown four years ago, Dionne Warwick has been known almost as much for her pithy tweets as for her velvety singing voice and the gorgeous Burt Bacharach-Hal David hits she transformed into pop standards. “I don’t get up in the morning and say, ‘I’ve got to tweet today,’” she tells Rolling Stone. “I do it when I feel there’s something I want to say.”
That moment arrived again this past Monday, when Warwick tweeted: “In every game it’s usually 3 strikes and you’re out.

When American soul and R&b icon Luther Vandross sang, he didn’t just produce beautiful musical sounds. He caressed and coddled each note with his famously velvety tenor voice, considering where to linger, when to whisper, or to gradually crescendo with an impeccable and ever-influential technique. In other words, he didn’t only sing, but created something ethereal, something that both pushed the form and felt like it gently poured straight out of his soul.
Considering the stamp he put on the American music industry, it feels strange that there hasn’t yet been a definitive documentary about Vandross’ unsung legacy until Dawn Porter’s “Luther: Never Too Much,” which had its world premiere recently at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. But that delay is perhaps fortuitous — after experiencing Porter’s loving portrait of the virtuosic musician, producer, and songwriter, you can’t imagine Vandross’ story being told by anyone else.

In 1969, Dionne Warwick’s career received a boost courtesy of Elvis Presley. Warwick had begun to see success on the charts in the 1960s and Elvis, though on a career decline, was one of the biggest names of the era. He used this fame to help Warwick. She shared how one simple act by him resulted in her selling more albums than she thought possible.
Dionne Warwick said Elvis helped her sell her album
Warwick began her music career in the 1950s and began to see mainstream success by the early 1960s. By the middle of the decade, she was a veritable star with success amongst critics and on the charts. Still, Elvis was able to boost her album sales.

It's finally happened. After more than two years of anticipation, we finally have our first proper look at season 2 of the hugely popular, Emmy Award-winning animated series "Arcane."
For the uninitiated, "Arcane" is based on the world of the global video game sensation "League of Legends" which tells an original story featuring some fan-favorite characters from the game. Specifically, "Arcane" tells the origin story of champions Jinx (Ella Purnell) aka Powder, and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld), two sisters who find themselves on opposite sides of a brewing war between the utopian city of Piltover and its underbelly Zaun. All this happens while Piltover and the world at large are forever transformed by the discovery of magic-based arcane technology.
The show was not only applauded as a spectacular video game adaptation, but also as a visual feast. Like "Into the Spider-Verse," this show challenged what was thought possible with animation, especially on TV.

For reasons yet to be explained, a super Pac supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.‘s presidential campaign falsely advertised a forthcoming fundraiser featuring a performance from famed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and several other celebrity guests.
At the end of December, the Daily Mail reported — citing unspecified “organizers” — that Kennedy’s campaign would throw a “multi-million dollar” fundraiser later this month for the anti-vax candidate in Indian Wells, a resort town in the California desert. Supposedly, this event would also double as a birthday party for the independent candidate, who turns 70 on Jan.

Contrary to claims amplified by the candidate’s campaign, Martin Sheen says he in no way supports Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and will not be attending the politician’s upcoming fundraiser.
“I do not endorse Rfk Jr nor will I be attending his party,” Sheen said in an Instagram story post on Thursday. He followed the remark up with another post stating that President Joe Biden would be his pick for the upcoming presidential election.
“I will wholeheartedly support Joe Biden and the Democratic ticket for 2024,” Sheen wrote.

Viewers were left stunned on Saturday evening when one of the masked singers in the UK version of the hit show was revealed as music legend Dionne Warwick – and she was sent home after just one episode.
‘Weather’ appeared earlier in the show, heavily disguised, but as soon as she began to sing many viewers at home, and most of the show’s four judges, immediately guessed it was likely to be Warwick.

"Arcane" was one of the biggest TV surprises of 2021. The show is set in the fictional universe of the popular "League of Legends" video game, while not exactly adapting a particular story. The result was a series that put the final nail in the coffin of the so-called video game adaptation curse. "Arcane" featured a vast, lived-in world with rich lore. The characters are complex, with their story arcs throughout the nine episodes being nuanced and thrilling to watch.

Yeah, they were going to be Wookies at one point, and sure, that would have been cool, but there is something so silly and loveable about seeing these tiny little man-eating teddy bears angrily attacking stormtroopers that just warms my heart. Wicket (Warwick Davis), our Ewok protagonist, is the cutest. It was his mannerisms that got me. The moment he plops down next to Leia (Carrie Fisher) when he realizes she has food still makes me giggle every time I watch -- including my viewing for this article five minutes ago.

Horror was in a bad way during a good chunk of the 1990s. The slasher craze kicked off by John Carpenter's "Halloween" had more than run its course, so the studios, which never truly respected the genre in the first place, generally threw up their hands. If it wasn't a sequel or a Stephen King adaptation, they really weren't interested.
This is where upstart, mid-range production companies came in. There was still a healthy market for horror in the home video market, and, if you made the movie cheaply enough, potential to make a lightning-quick killing in theaters. Mark Jones' "Leprechaun" accomplished the latter in 1993. Released over the second weekend of January, the silly yarn about an ill-tempered fairy who goes on a murderous rampage whenever anyone steals his gold scared up $8.6 million at the United States box office. Given its $1 million budget, it was a modest hit for Trimark Pictures.

Dionne Warwick has been enjoying her time on Twitter, now known as X, giving hot takes on everything. However, with all the radical changes owner Elon Musk makes on a whim, Warwick has been wanting to meet him to make sure he knows what he is doing.
“I have yet to speak to that young man and I intend to because I am not quite sure what he’s doing or if he knows what he’s doing,” Warwick told People about her thoughts on Musk. “So until that happens, I’ll reserve my answer to that question.”
Back in August, Musk said the “block” feature was “going to be deleted, except for DMs.” Musk said that Mute would be the only option for users, which still allows those muted to see and interact with people’s feeds versus “block” which completely denies the blocked person from interacting with them.

Riot Games's online battle arena video game, League of Legends, has a worldwide playership -- at last estimate -- of over forty million people. It's little wonder that when Netflix premiered Arcane, a series based in the LoL world, in November 2021, its viewership blew up.
What was somewhat surprising was how appealing the show is to non-League watchers. A collaboration between Riot and animation studio Fortiche Productions, Arcane streamed as three acts, each consisting of three episodes, with acts dropping weekly, with consecutively record-setting viewer numbers.
Two years later, Arcane continues to entertain and inspire League, animation, and Imagine Dragons fans with a 100% Fresh score at Rotten Tomatoes and consistently high streams. So when will we get the next chapter of Piltover and Zaun? Who will return? And what does it mean for the future of Hextech and Shimmer?
What is Arcane about?

Jerry Moss, co-founder of A&m Records, has died. He was 88.
According to Variety, the record exec — who along with his business partner, Herb Alpert, turned A&m into one of America’s leading independent record labels — died Wednesday at his home in Bel Air.
“They truly don’t make them like him anymore and we will miss conversations with him about everything under the sun. The twinkle in his eyes as he approached every moment ready for the next adventure,” his family said in a statement to the Associated Press.
Dionne Warwick, who wasn’t an A&m artist, but had been close to Moss ever since he helped promote her music in the early 1960s also released a statement, calling him one of the “kindest gentlemen” and her “dear friend.”

Charity Lawson is keeping Brayden around. On Monday night’s episode of The Bachelorette, Charity was warned the 24-year-old travel nurse is immature and treating the show like “spring break,” but opted to give him a rose anyway.
The week started on a much more positive note when Aaron B. landed the first one-on-one date of the season. The duo had a classic date, with Charity picking Aaron up in a red convertible and driving him to the Hollywood sign where they enjoyed a champagne picnic before climbing up to the iconic letters.
“I haven’t felt this spark in a minute… it just feels so good,” Aaron told Charity, who was left wondering if their connection was “too good to be true.”
On the nighttime portion of their date, Aaron confessed that he wasn’t always the best boyfriend, before sharing that he worked to fix his issues in therapy.

For about half an hour or so, Warwick Thornton’s “The New Boy” could almost fool you into thinking that it’ll be a gentle, evocative and beautifully atmospheric movie about a small group of people who mean well. But then things change, and an understated film that might have quietly dealt with Australia’s original sin – the decades-long removal of indigenous children from their parents – turns complex, spiritual and surpassingly unsettling, a mixture of religion and magic that doesn’t really trust in either.
It’s still beautifully composed, but it cuts that beauty with some thorny ideas and puzzling turns; it starts out beguiling, but it may end up getting under your skin.
Best known for “Samson and Delilah,” which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009, Warwick has largely been working in television since then, with the notable exception of 2017’s “Sweet Country,...

After Dolly Parton and Dionne Warwick teamed up for a gospel duet, the country star confessed that, as Warwick’s fan, she’d hoped the collaboration would come together for years. But even though the two music legends were fans of each other, they had never met before they recorded their song.
When the chance presented itself, Parton said it was “just one of those blessed projects,” while Warwick shared her belief that their working together was “pre-ordained.”

In 1978, John Carpenter’s Halloween ushered in the era of the slasher movie.
The film was responsible for something else, too. Over the next 15 years, any number of weird and wonderful horror movies popped up inspired by notable dates in the calendar. Friday the 13th, Mother’s Day, My Bloody Valentine, and April Fool’s Day all cashed in on the concept.
It was against this backdrop that TV writer Mark Jones came up with the most brilliantly bizarre entry of them all: Leprechaun. “Back in the 1980s, there was a lot of advertising for Lucky Charms with this little leprechaun character,” Jones tells Den of Geek magazine. “It suddenly occurred to me that no one had done a St. Patrick’s Day horror movie. Everyone knew what a leprechaun was. Plus, they were...

Life is full of surprises, curveballs, and moments of serendipity. Fate may play a part in the lives of the Jedi in the "Star Wars" galaxy, but in the real world, it may have intervened in the life of an actor who played a key role in the Rebellion. Actor Warwick Davis, now famous for playing the affable Ewok Wicket in 1983's "Return of the Jedi," has become a quintessential part of George Lucas' sci-fi fantasy empire. As a beacon for the franchise, Davis is arguably the most beloved performer outside of the holy trinity of Luke, Leia, and Han. Always a staple at the fan convention Star Wars Celebration, it's nearly impossible to picture an alternate reality in which Davis was never a part of the vast canon of "Star Wars."
Although it seems meant to be now, Davis could easily have missed his chance to co-star in "Return of the Jedi,...

Dionne Warwick, whose career is forever linked to the man who wrote so many of her hit songs, remembered Burt Bacharach today, releasing a statement on the late composer and calling him her dear friend and musical partner while conceding the two “had their run ins.”
“Burt’s transition is like losing a family member,” Warwick said in the statement. “These words I’ve been asked to write are being written with sadness over the loss of my Dear Friend and my Musical Partner. On the lighter side we laughed a lot and had our run ins, but always found a way to let each other know our family, like roots, were the most important part of our relationship. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, letting them know he is now peacefully resting and I too will miss him.”
