The Gentlemen is the latest entry into Guy Ritchie‘s chaotic and hilarious world of crime. The Netflix series is created by Ritchie himself and it is set in the world of Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. It follows the story of Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits the title of Duke and his father’s whole estate. Still, he is more surprised as what he doesn’t know is that his father was in cahoots with criminals, who were growing cannabis on their estate. Eddie decides that he wants to rid his family estate of all the weed plants and criminals, but before he can do that he might have to do some criminal things himself first. The Gentlemen stars Theo James in the lead roles with Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Vinnie Jones, Ruby Sear, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Alexis Rodney, and Harry Goodwins starring in supporting roles.

Jeff Ryan, Scott Cohen, Katerina Tannenbaum, Geneva Carr and Will Chase will star in “Mooch.” The crime comedy was also written and directed by Ryan, whose credits include “Mean Spirited” and “YouthMin.”
The filmmakers received an interim agreement to work on this independent production during last year’s SAG-Afrtra strike. It recently wrapped production in Lexington, Mass.
The movie focuses on a 30-year-old caddy named Shane (Ryan), who winds up with an unexpected gig as a personal private eye for a New Jersey nightclub owner. Even though he inches closer to realizing his ambitions, his personal life spirals out of control.
“When I was in high school, my friend’s dad told me I was going to fail in life because I was a ‘Mooch,’” said Ryan. “Making this film was a dream come true, and I am proud to put my dirty laundry on screen for all to enjoy.

“Silence. Darkness.” Those two words appear up front in most of Neil Labute’s stageplays, though his latest feature, “House of Darkness,” opens with a more playful “Once Upon a Time …” The film — Labute’s first in a bumpy seven-year stretch since “Dirty Weekend,” during which the provocateur was abruptly dropped by longtime Off Broadway partner McC Theater — starts out as a standard hookup scenario and twists into edgier, potentially supernatural “Promising Young Woman” territory. Part cautionary tale, part post-#MeToo ghost story, this sly chamber piece uses silence and darkness to its advantage, allowing audiences’ imaginations to fill in the spaces and shadows of an atypical one-night stand.

"You are 100 percent pregnant." Hulu has released the first official trailer for a new horror (comedy?) titled False Positive, from filmmaker John Lee, co-written by Lee and Ilana Glazer. This is premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival coming up in the next few weeks, then will be streaming on Hulu this June. Described as "a contemporary take on Rosemary's Baby," False Positive stars Ilana Glazer and Justin Theroux as a couple that finally finds hope in their fertility doctor, played by Pierce Brosnan. But things start to get strange. As if getting pregnant weren't complicated enough, Lucy sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about her fertility doctor. The cast includes Sophia Bush, Gretchen Mol, Josh Hamilton, Sullivan Jones, and Lucy Walters. Yeah this definitely looks extremely creepy with an unsettling sprinkle of dark comedy. This looks way more frightening than you're probably expecting, especially with Glazer in the lead.

As if pregnancy wasn’t scary enough for a couple becoming parents for the first time, Hulu’s upcoming horror movie “False Positive” offers a contemporary spin on “Rosemary’s Baby” with terrifying results. The film re-teams director, producer, and writer John Lee with Ilana Glazer, for whom he directed episodes of the Comedy Central classic “Broad City,” which she co-created with Abbi Jacobsen. Glazer co-wrote the script with Lee and also stars in “False Positive” opposite Justin Theroux. The movie will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 17, followed by a Hulu premiere on June 25.
Here’s the official synopsis courtesy of Hulu: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Ilana Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm,...

Ethan Hawke headlines the biopic, Tesla, having transformed himself—mustache and all—into the once-overlooked, retroactively-revered early 20th century inventor, Nikola Tesla. The indie offering, directed and written by Michael Almereyda, premiered this past January at the Sundance Film Festival, and will make its general release via IFC Films.
Tesla might initially seem like a historical biopic that’s quickly revisiting a topical well, focused on the electrical engineering achievements of Tesla in his famous involvement in the electricity rivalry between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse. After all, an impressively-cast movie covering that very rivalry, The Current War, just saw its belated wide release this past October. However, viewers get a meta-minded slap about 25 seconds into the film’s just-dropped trailer, proving that there’s more to it than we thought.
With that set, check out the trailer for Tesla just below.
As the official Tesla logline fully explains of the plot.

Carla Gugino’s first job as a TV series regular was playing Michael J. Fox’s reporter girlfriend Ashley on Spin City in 1996. It was a big break that instead broke bad: The show’s creators quickly realized Ashley was a distraction from the funnier workplace scenes, and Gugino was let go after a dozen episodes. So thorough was her erasure from the series that an Ashley subplot was removed from a rerun that aired not long after Gugino’s last episode, replaced by previously-cut footage featuring other characters who were still on the show.

"These days, you think you met your soulmate. Next thing you know, they change their number and steal all your stuff." Can artificial intelligence actually write intelligent scripts? Or at least – interesting scripts? Progress Bar is the latest film partially created by artificial intelligence (the short film Sunspring was the first one). This experimental short film about relationships "attempts to harness the inherent absurdity of dialogue generated by A.I. by placing it within the confines of a more traditional (human-written) narrative film structure." Starring Jennifer Kim, Lucy Walters, and Kevin Breznahan. Made by the same team behind the other shorts The Grey Matter and Therefore I Am that we've featured previously. Worth a watch. Thanks to Pete for the tip on this. Original description from Vimeo: "In a near future, a woman navigates a virtual customer service call via her own avatar and digital assistant." Progress Bar is directed by filmmaker Peter McCoubrey,...

Film producer screens some footage and solicits feedback. “It’s — not good,” is the first response. “Well, we’re all in agreement on that pretty much,” is the reply as said producer plunges his face into his hands.
Here’s the first trailer for Season 2 of Get Shorty, Epix’s dark comedy based on Elmore Leonard’s novel and the 1995 Barry Sonnenfeld movie. The sophomore logline: Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd) struggles to reconcile his ambitions as a filmmaker and a family man with his skill set as a career criminal. His progress in Hollywood is jeopardized when the washed-up producer (Ray Romano) with whom he partnered in Season 1, agrees to wear a federal wire. Miles faces off with criminal financiers and with a Hollywood power-broker who could be the most dangerous of all.

"Only in the wilderness is man made pure again." Momentum has released a trailer for a dark thriller film titled Boarding School, the latest from filmmaker Boaz Yakin. The synopsis for this seems similar to The Miseducation of Cameron Post, but the actual film seems to border on being more horror or psychological thriller than a drama. Luke Prael stars as Jacob, a 12-year-old boy who, after being caught wearing women's dresses by his father, is sent away to a private boarding school for teenage misfits. Once there, he discovers the headmaster is much more dangerous than helpful in any way. The cast includes Will Patton, Samantha Mathis, Robert John Burke, Tammy Blanchard, Lucy Walters, Sterling Jerins, and Nadia Alexander. This gets super creepy by the end. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Boaz Yakin's Boarding School, direct from YouTube: When troubled 12-year-old Jacob Felsen is sent away to boarding school,...

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito is set for a lead role opposite star Carla Gugino in Cinemax’s straight-to-series drama Jett, from Gothika scribe Sebastian Gutierrez. Also cast as series regulars are Elena Anaya, Michael Aronov, Gaite Jansen, Chris Backus, Gil Bellows and Violet McGraw. Jodie Turner-Smith, Gentry White, Lucy Walters and Mustafa Shakir are set for recurring roles.
Esposito, who has a one-year deal on Jett, is coming off a two-season series regular turn on Better Call Saul, reprising his popular Breaking Bad character of Gustavo “Gus” Fring. That includes Season 3 and the upcoming fourth season, debuting Aug. 9, which already has been shot. I hear that while Esposito has has no deal in place beyond that, he could return to the AMC series should it get renewed for a fifth season, with the production schedule of Jett allowing for that.

NCIS: New Orleans Agent Sonja Percy’s plan to draw out a target comes up snake eyes in this exclusive sneak peek from Shalita Grant‘s final episode of the CBS drama.
In the episode “High Stakes” (airing Tuesday at 10/9c), Percy and Lasalle go undercover at a high-stakes, underground poker game after the organizer (Power‘s Lucy Walters) targets players who have access to a naval research laboratory.
In the clip above, Percy is working a pretty good poker hand, but maintaining the interest of their target may not be “in the cards,” as you’ll see by pressing play.

Six episodes were provided for review prior to broadcast.
For nearly every character in Get Shorty, doom takes the form of a past decision: one filmmaker is still haunted by the failure of his dream project, and a mobster, who eventually becomes that man’s partner, is unable to start a new life because he can’t cut his criminal ties. Both of these experiences provide ample support to the show’s sentiment, but honestly, they’re nothing new. How is it possible that a show I feel like I’ve seen before can still be so riveting?
Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd) is the mobster. A big Irish guy working as the muscle for a small Nevadan syndicate, he looks like he should belong in the “all brawn, no brain” category – those who underestimate him put him there. But as we can tell from the way he watches movies with his daughter,...
