Christina Chong has several notable projects on her portfolio with her ongoing work being Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The Paramount+ series stars her as La’an Noonien Singh who is relatively new but shares a great connection with the Star Trek saga due to her notorious ancestor, Khan Noonien-Singh, one of the franchise’s infamous villains.

Despite its Bond-adjacent title, The Goldfinger acts as something of a reunion from a different franchise. Re-teaming Andy Lau, Tony Leung, and writer (now writer-director) Felix Chong from the Infernal Affairs series, their newest film charts the rise and fall of a corrupt real-estate tycoon. Spanning decades, and inspired by the Carrian Group––a Hong Kong conglomerate that collapsed in the 1980s––The Goldfinger pits Lau and Leung on opposing sides, with the former playing Lau Kai-yeun, an investigator for the Icac (Independent Commision Against Corruption) and the latter as Henry Ching, an engineer who works his way through a series of shady deals to run a multi-billion dollar business.
Principally about the investigation into Ching’s company and the house of cards he built over decades, The Goldfinger is compelling in individual moments. It features two noteworthy performances by Leung and Lau. Such rich set-up notwithstanding, Chong never finds...

Following the still unreleased in Malaysia “The Story of Southern Islet”, Keat Aun Chong came up this year his second film, “Snow in Midsummer” which had its premiere its Giornate degli Autori and led the number of nominations in this year's Golden Horse awards, although it left with only one for sound effects. The story is based on the homonymous classic Chinese play of the Yuan dynasty, also including in the story the 13 May incident, an episode of Sino-Malay sectarian violence that took place in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on 13 May 1969, when a number of people disappeared, only to be discovered later in mass graves. As the director mentions, on that fateful night in May, an opera singer died and was buried in the same cemetery. During his research, he discovered a member of that opera troupe who revealed that they were performing “Snow in June”, a play...

The current real estate market is tough. But despite obvious challenges like high interest rates, these standout New York City next-gen real estate agents — Eric Brown of Compass, Maggie Chong of Serhant, the Corcoran Group duo of Marko Arsic and Jason Lau, Douglas Elliman’s Erin Lichy (a star of the new season of The Real Housewives of New York City), and Brown Harris Stevens’ Michael Kelley-Bradford — just keep going.
All six are nominated for The Hollywood Reporter‘s 2023 Power Broker Awards‘ Rising Star Award for up-and-coming agents 35 and under. The winner will be announced later this month.
“If anyone says interest rates don’t impact pricing, that’s just a lie, honestly,” says Brown, 32, a top agent at Compass.
“I have so many buyers who have just paused. Everybody’s kind of freaked out from the instability,” says Chong, 35, a Serhant agent who lives in Brooklyn. “But,” Chong counters,...

"Star Trek" is all about exploring the unknown, a spirit that "Strange New Worlds" honors with its episodic, socially-conscious storytelling. The penultimate episode of season 2, "Subspace Rhapsody," will take "Star Trek" where it has never gone before — to its first musical episode.
Trekkies got plenty of treats at 2023's San Diego Comic-Con, including a surprise early premiere of "Those Old Scientists" — Strange New Worlds" season 2, episode 7. That episode, a crossover with the animated series "Star Trek: Lower Decks," defied both time and medium. As a cherry on top, the trailer for "Subspace Rhapsody" also premiered, showing how "Strange New Worlds" will continue to make "Trek" history. To underscore the premise of "Subspace Rhapsody," the trailer is scored with an acapella version of the series' theme while the title cards are right out of an old Hollywood musical.
"Subspace Rhapsody" is certainly titled after the classic Queen song "Bohemian Rhapsody." Based on the trailer,...

So, do you have an appetite for sports films after the entertaining true life-inspired Air from a few weeks ago? To be more specific do you have, as Cheech and Chong most famously proclaimed, a “basketball jones”? Oh, here’s the movie for you! Now unlike the earlier film, this isn’t set in the 1980s, though it has a connection to a previous decade. And it’s not “inspired by true events”. This is more of a rollicking “buddy comedy” and is a remake of a movie from over 30 years ago (the decade being the 1990s). Perhaps it will once and for all either prove this true or false per the still provocative title, White Men Can’T Jump.
Speaking of time, this version starts with a flashback going back only six or seven years. It’s a telling TV interview on a cable sports show profiling high school basketball...

Few pop culture moments match the way The Matrix franchise exploded onto the scene. The action blockbuster rolled out a showy, Hong Kong action-inspired crowd-pleaser with heady science fiction underpinnings. Its iconic imagery, revitalization of Keanu Reeves as a major star, and controversial plot made it an instant modern classic.
The Matrix was packed with fantastic supporting actors who made a big impression on audiences. From Joe Pantoliano as Cypher to Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, a whole new audience could appreciate some of Hollywood’s finest character actors. But one of the biggest breakout stars from the first film never returned to The Matrix franchise.

Kowloon Walled City — one of Hong Kong’s most famous landmarks, or infamous trouble spots, depending on your point of view — fell prey to the developers’ bulldozer 30 years ago. But it remains an icon of the territory’s gritty spirit and is being painstakingly re-created for action thriller feature “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.”
The film is a beacon for how Hong Kong cinema is now evolving. Directed by hot-shot Soi Cheang, whose “Mad Fate” recently played in Berlin and is set for imminent local release, “Twilight” boasts leading stars Louis Koo, Sammo Hung and Richie Jen, plus emerging talents Philip Ng, Raymond Lau and Terrance Lau.
