During the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, Robert De Niro chatted about his decades-long career, revealed a project he missed out on and shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2024 election.
The Oscar-winning actor kicked off his appearance by reacting to the Republican response to Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday night, when Alabama Sen. Katie Britt delivered a criticism of the president and his administration’s policies.
“I don’t understand why they’d even have someone like her do it,” De Niro said. “I mean, it was so lame.”
Following the primary elections in several states on Tuesday signaling another rematch between Biden and Donald Trump in November, Maher also asked the Killers of the Flower Moon star his perspective on the upcoming election — and De Niro had one question for his fellow Americans.

A hit song by Bananarama in the ’80s told us that Robert De Niro’s Waiting. Tonight, on Real Time with Bill Maher, he finally got the chance to get a few things off his chest.
Maher tried to balance things between show business chat and trying to draw out De Niro on a few political topics. He acknowledged the actor’s greatness by reading off a laundry list of films enhanced by De Niro’s work, and asked what goes into deciding which film to work with.
“I see the possibility,” he said. “Some I’ve been involved with from the inception. They’re movies I’ve felt were worthy. I think I have a pretty good average. I just pick certain things, that I feel are good, well-written, or smart, or the director’s good. Scorsese, I just go with him no matter what’s he going to do.

Between his weekly show on HBO and his own podcast, Bill Maher would seem to have a full plate, but in a new interview the firebrand comic is suggesting that he may be returning to CNN.
It was just last year that CNN picked up Overtime, Maher’s live YouTube post show segment that continues the discussion with his panel after HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher ends.
It was not a success. According to one report, within two months the cable news network had lost nearly 50% of its viewers in the Friday 11:30-11:44 p.m. time slot that Overtime was airing.
Now in an new interview with Mediaite’s Press Club podcast, Maher indicated that he’s in discussions with the cable news channel, telling Aidan McLaughlin, “we hope to do more with CNN in the very near future.”
We’ll see whether anything materializes.

Bill Maher is sharing his thoughts on the way information is spread among young people on social media, particularly TikTok.
On the latest episode of Real Time, the host addressed a now-deleted recent viral video on the social platform of a teen reading 9/11 terrorist leader Osama bin Laden’s 2002 “Letter to America,” which includes antisemitic statements and seeks to justify the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. that left nearly 3,000 people dead and thousands of others injured.
“The kids now have jumped on TikTok from supporting Hamas to supporting Osama bin Laden,” Maher said in his opening monologue. “Is this the Tide pods? Is this the eating the Tide… is this where this is coming from? Are their minds literally poisoned now?” He was referencing the viral and dangerous TikTok challenge from several years back, where teens dared each other to eat Tide pods.

It was the Thanksgiving show for Bill Maher’s Real Time, typically his last show of the fall season before a hiatus. But because of the Writers Guild strikes, the show will go on into December.
That’s reason enough to be thankful. But Maher had an added reason for grace on Friday’s show – he had the comic geniuses of Rob Reiner and Albert Brooks, whose masterful storytelling and energy allowed Maher the privilege of sitting back and simply basking in their glow.
The duo were out in support of their new HBO documentary, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life. But they really didn’t need the excuse of a project to propel things. Fast friends since high school, the conversation flowed easily about their long association with little prompting.

Killers of the Flower Moon. Interviewed by the Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, Osage language consultant Christopher Cote shared his thoughts on Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. “As an Osage, I really wanted this to be from the perspective of Mollie and what her family experienced, but I think it would take an Osage to do that,” Cote said from the red carpet, referencing Lily Gladstone’s character in the film. “Martin Scorsese, not being Osage, I think he did a great job representing our people, but this history is being told almost from the perspective of [Mollie’s husband] Ernest Burkhart and they kind of give him this conscience and kind of depict that there’s love. But when somebody conspires to murder your entire family, that’s not love. That’s not love, that’s just beyond abuse.”Cote continued:i think in the end,...

Bill Maher took a dig Friday at Swifty Nation, calling the racial make-up of Taylor Swift’s fanbase into question during HBO’s “Real Time.”
Maher joked the difference between Swift and the Democratic Party is, the pop star can thrive while the “Democrats cannot win with just white people.”
“It was a good news/bad news week for the Democrats,” Maher said to kick off the gag. “Bad news, in the six battleground states Trump is beating Biden in five out of six of them. And Biden’s support among nonwhite voters dropped 33 points. And Democrats cannot win with just white people. Although it hasn’t hurt Taylor Swift.”
Well that’s one way to harsh our mellow, Bill. Ouch.
If taken seriously, Maher’s notion is of course pretty easily shot down. Swift’s fans fill stadiums and movie theaters. Not only are they young and old, but they are Black,...

Bill Maher on Actors Strike Ending, Screening of Hamas Attack Footage, Abortion Rights on the Ballot
Bill Maher covered a range of news from this week in his Real Time opening monologue, including the SAG-AFTRA strike ending, the screening of uncensored Hamas attack footage and the overwhelming vote for abortion protections on Ohio’s election ballot.
To kick off Friday’s show, the host told the audience that they’re cheering especially loud tonight “because we’re in Hollywood and the actors strike is finally over.”
He went on to jokingly inform the “new younger people watching” that the “actors are the people in the movies, pointing at the CGI.”
The 118-day actors strike officially ended after SAG-AFTRA announced earlier this week that the union reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with studios and streamers.
While many stars took to social media after to share their excitement for the end of the grueling strike, Maher had a different thought, adding, “With the actors strike over,...

Oil and water. Oscar and Felix. Entering tonight’s Real Time, you’d expect Sen. Ted Cruz and Bill Maher to fit into that “don’t mix” category.
You’d be wrong, for the most part. Although they sparred at times, the two political opposites found that they were often on the same page.
Cruz is out supporting his new book, Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America, and surprisingly admitted his admiration for the “old-school liberal” Maher, who Cruz said was “funny as hell” and “believes in free speech.”
“I actually appreciate what you do,” Cruz said, adding he has retweeted some of Maher’s monologues.
Maher seemed taken aback. “I feel really bad about the jokes I did about you,” he said. He acknowledged he is often accused of slowly getting more conservative, basically because he refuses to “bend the knee” to the more “crazy train” ideas of the left.

Bill Maher Laments The Rejection Of Western Civilization Values By Misguided Social Justice Warriors
“Western civilization is what gave the word every goddamn liberal precept to adore,” Bill Maher thundered during his “New Rules” editorial on Friday’s Real Time. He went on to list religious freedom and other benefits.
So, Maher contended, citing a recent statement from President Joe Biden, “The world would be a better place if we had more Israels.” People live better today because of Western ideals, not in spite of them, Maher contended, and that’s why he’s struggling with the anti-Israel backlash, particularly on college campuses. “It’s like a volcano that blew,” he said. “I don’t know where this comes from.”
That was the theme that also came through in the night’s panel discussion, which featured Fareed Zakaria, host of CNN’s Fareed Zakaria Gps and columnist for the Washington Post, and Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group and Gzero Media. There was much...

Andrew Cuomo, the former Democratic governor of New York, blamed cancel culture for the media and political frenzy that erupted following allegations of sexual harassment.
Cuomo appeared alongside Melissa DeRosa, his former chief of staff and author of What’s Left Unsaid: My Life at the Center of Power, Politics and Crisis, on Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.
During their conversation, the host brought up the investigation into allegations against the former governor, which he has denied, that forced him to resign in 2021. Bill Maher was angry that certain messages get attention and certain others do not on his Friday Real Time show on HBO.
He led off with a prime example of that in an interview with Alexandra Pelosi (daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi), the director and producer of the HBO Original documentary The Insurrectionist Next Door, which debuted October 15.
The film talks to several people who stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6 about what brought them to Washington, D.C. on that fateful day, and whether their views have shifted since.
Maher noted that the people in the film are “remarkably relatable and likable.”
“It’s the forgotten man,” Pelosi said. “They fell behind this great American dream, they’re feeling left behind.”

Like Bill Maher if he were very bald and occasionally funny, 55-year-old actor, “rage comic,” and blue-collar man of the people Bill Burr is a Joe Rogan liberal whose entire career is based on mocking the hypocrisies of political correctness and telling millennials to get off his lawn. He’s the living personification of Principal Skinner saying, “Am I so out of touch? No. It’s the children who are wrong!,” but in a thick Boston accent.
With that in mind, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that Burr’s directorial debut is the story of a very bald and occasionally funny middle-aged man — played by Burr, in an inspired stroke of casting — who’s fed up with all the holier-than-thou bullshit of a modern world where everyone is just trying not to get into trouble; stand-ups don’t exactly tend to stretch themselves when they start making their own movies.

Tommy Lee is the guest on the latest episode of Bill Maher’s “Club Random Podcast.” If that sentence is surprising, you’re not alone—Lee himself is aware that he is not “your typical person” who would be visiting the show.
But that didn’t stop him from describing Maher in such a way that the host said “Many times, I’ve thought to myself, ‘But it would be nice if somebody, somewhere, some writer, somebody, could say what I would say about myself and I wish, I think people really understand about me, but they never seem to be able to get it.’ And you just did it.”
After telling the host that he’s “just going to fanboy out,” Lee said, “There’s nobody else on this planet like you. There just is not. They don’t make ’em like that.”
“You bring me extreme f—ing joy.

On Friday, Quentin Tarantino paid a visit to an Israeli military base in the southern region of the country, meeting with residents and troops from the Israel Defense Forces in an effort to boost morale amid the ongoing war with Hamas.
A photo was posted on Twitter by the Israel War Room account, showing Tarantino posing with a group of Israelis in front of a military helicopter. “Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino visits an Israeli base in southern Israel to boost Idf morale,” the caption reads.
Additionally, photos and a TikTok video surfaced of an Israeli man approaching Tarantino for a photo, which the Pulp Fiction director granted with a smile. Check out the video below.
While a visit to Israel is a far trek for some — like Bruno Mars, who evacuated the country following Hamas’ surprise attack last week — for Tarantino, it’s home. In the late 2010s, he began...

Jeopardy! co-host Mayim Bialik has opened up on how she thinks she’d do as a contestant on the hit game show, and the answer may shock you. On the latest episode of Bill Maher‘s Club Random podcast, the 47-year-old Call Me Kat star was asked how well she would perform as a contestant, where she earnestly replied, “People ask if I know all that stuff, and I’m like, ‘no.’ No. First of all, answering things like that under pressure with a timer is not gonna happen for me. It’s hard!” She explained her answer in detail, telling Maher, “There’s a rhythm that winners get into – there’s a huge psychological component. If you get something wrong, it can be debilitating. I would cry, I think.” The Big Bang Theory alum then spoke of the scholarly aspect of the game, especially given her Neuroscience educational background.

It’s been a tough week in the world, and that posed a difficult challenge for Bill Maher on his Real Time show on Friday. How do you conduct a show built on political comedy when the subject matter is so grim?
But Maher navigated the thorny issues with grace, finding the humor in throwbacks to old reliables like Kanye West and Donald Trump while keeping the focus on whatever solutions might be gleaned from his guests.
Maher made no secret of his allegiance, stating up front during his panel discussion that he believed Israel has the moral high ground in this conflict. That was challenged at times by James Kirchick, columnist for Tablet Magazine, writer-at-large for Air Mail, and author of Secret City: The Hidden History of Gay Washington, and particularly Matt Duss, executive vice president at the Center for International Policy and former foreign policy advisor to Senator...

James Brolin on Wednesday clarified he was mistakenly referring to the 1973 film “The Way We Were” in an interview with Bill Maher in which he said his wife, Barbra Streisand, was working on redoing the ending.
“The Way We Were” is, in fact, being re-released Oct. 17 on Blu-ray for its 50th anniversary, not “Funny Girl.”
Brolin released a statement of clarification to TheWrap.
“To My Wife Barbra and all her fans,” the statement said. “Drinking tequila with Bill Maher on his ‘Club Random’ podcast recently, I mistakenly mentioned the wrong film. I meant to say my wife was working on ‘The Way We Were.‘ Apologies for all the confusion … Jim Brolin.”
Original story is below:
“Funny Girl,” the smash hit that cemented Barbra Streisand’s place in Hollywood at the ripe age of 26, ended with her protagonist, Fanny Brice, separating from her husband after he was released from prison.

Bill Maher was off television for five months, thanks to the WGA strike. So naturally, he had a lot to catch up on in Friday’s edition of Real Time on HBO.
Maher kept the focus squarely on politics in his opening monologue and in his panel discussion, with particular emphasis on covering the immigration border crisis. The panel was composed of Matt Welch, editor-at-large of Reason Magazine, and Sarah Isgur, senior editor for the online magaine The Dispatch.
The migrants issue has mushroomed into “a national crisis,” Maher noted. Panelists Welch and Isgur talked about the fentanyl plague that’s part and parcel of the loose border enforcement. Welch indicated that the crackdown on opioids is part of the reason that fentanyl has risen in popularity, turning “into a hockey stick” of overdose charting. He later referred to it as “bathtub heroin.”

It was business as usual, quite literally for Bill Maher on the first new episode of “Real Time” since the Hollywood strike began nearly 5 months ago. The monologue was a mix of jokes about current events — and events from a few weeks ago — and the panel discussion focused on a host of Maher’s pet punditries. And “New Rules” ended with a rant about how old Joe Biden is.
Missing from the episode? Any discussion of the strike, not to mention the controversy Maher waded into 2 weeks ago when he announced he would bring “Real Time” back without writers.
The closest Maher came to even acknowledging that the second-longest writers’ strike in Hollywood history happened came at the beginning of the panel discussion part of the show, when he thanked his writers.

Bill Maher returned to the airwaves with HBO’s “Real Time” for the first time since the strike with only mild praise for the Writers Guild of America for settling the five-month strike.
Season 21 of “Real Tiime with Bill Maher” became the first of TV’s prominent late-night talk shows to return to the airwaves after the conclusion of the 148-day work stoppage. Bill Maher returned to HBO’s Real Time following some of his recent controversy amid the writers strike.
Though he didn’t directly address the backlash, he did briefly express his appreciation for his writers, staff members and the Writers Guild of America nearly 20 minutes into Friday’s episode of his political talk show.
“First of all, I want to thank everybody who made this possible, to be back,” Maher said. “You know, I’m talking about my brilliant staff, writers and non-writers, who scrambled the jets so we could be on in two days. His comments were made just before starting a panel discussion with Sam Harris, host of the Making Sense podcast, and Mary Katharine Ham, author and co-host of the Getting Hammered podcast.

“Real Time with Bill Maher” is returning to HBO this Friday, a week later than originally planned. Maher delayed plans to bring back “Real Time” last week as the WGA and AMPTP resumed its negotiations — and rumblings of a resolution to the writers strike appeared to be in reach.

Howard Stern and Bill Maher are “no longer friends,” according to Stern. The SiriusXM radio host told listeners (via Entertainment Weekly) that Maher made a “sexist” comment involving Stern’s first wife and “was actually dumping on me” during an episode of Maher’s “Club Random” podcast.

It all started on a recent episode of Maher’s podcast “Club Random”, in which he questioned Stern openly expressing his love for his second wife of almost 15 years, Beth Stern.
“How does this gushing about the second wife — how does that make the first wife feel? Could we just not gush about the person while the other person can still hear it?” Maher said.
Stern’s first marriage was to Alison Berns, with whom he tied the knot in 1978. They divorced in 2001.
On his own show, Stern did not appreciate Maher’s comments at all, sharing his unfiltered response.
