The actor, who was previously cleared of sexual assault after trials in the US and UK, gave an interview to former Gb News presenter Dan Wootton on his Outspoken channel on YouTube, where Spacey said that he may have at times in the past behaved inappropriately, but denied that he had behaved illegally.

“I felt like I was staring at a soulless monster,” Daniel, an actor, says of his alleged sexual assault by Kevin Spacey in a new Channel 4 documentary promising a “forensic look” at the Oscar winner’s rise to stardom and his alleged sexual misconduct.
Spacey Unmasked features 10 men, Daniel among them, to tell their stories of alleged abuse at the hands of Spacey. None of them were involved in the London trial that saw the actor acquitted of nine charges in July 2023, and all but one have never spoken out before. The charges stemmed from alleged acts that occurred from 2001 to 2013; Spacey was artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 until 2015.
In between clips of prolific award wins and talk-show wisecracks, Spacey Unmasked features the testimonies of a group of men — identified by their first names only — that span five decades, ranging from a teenage Spacey at...

Kevin Spacey is pushing back against the Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked, billed as a “forensic look” at his career and the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against him, ahead of a U.K. premiere on May 6-7.
“I will not sit back and be attacked by a dying network’s one-sided ‘documentary’ about me in their desperate attempt for ratings,” Spacey said in a long thread on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. The Channel 4 doc comes in the wake of Spacey being acquitted in July 2023 of nine charges in a U.K. criminal case, and will air on Max and Investigation Discovery, though no U.S. premiere dates have been announced.
In his social media post, Spacey rejected the British broadcaster as the right forum for addressing his controversial past: “There’s a proper channel to handle allegations against me and it’s not Channel 4. Each time I have...

Kevin Spacey on Thursday has vowed to respond to new allegations that are being put forth in the docuseries Spacey Unmasked, which will air in the UK on Channel 4 on May 6-7 and also in the U.S. via Max and Investigation Discovery.
The docuseries, Channel 4 has said, “investigates Spacey’s conduct and talks to multiple men unconnected to [last year’s] case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before.”
Spacey, who has faced multiple allegations of sexual assault and but last year was found not guilty on nine charges at London’s Southwark Crown Court relating to four men, says he has asked for a chance to respond to the docuseries’ content but has not been given sufficient time to do so.

TV show creator Armando Iannucci has opposed those who have labelled the casting choices of Doctor Who as “woke”.
Iannucci, who is behind programmes such as The Thick of It and Veep, recently spoke at the MacTaggart Legacy panel as part of the Edinburgh International TV Festival.
Joined by writer and producer Jack Thorne, British historian and broadcaster David Olusoga OBE, and Channel 4's former Head of News and Current Affairs Dorothy Byrne, the writer discussed making programmes and films that feel representative of the UK.
“British television is great, we want it to be even better, and it can only be better if it’s much more reflective of who we are, as a country and as an audience,” he explained.
In Iannucci’s 2019 film The Personal History of David Copperfield, Dev Patel played the title role – a move that the creator described as “colourblind casting” and something...

British broadcaster Emily Maitlis has warned that populism has overcome the power of the mainstream media to hold politicians to account in the wake of Donald Trump’s popularity and Brexit, and unveiled a blueprint for wrestling back control in her MacTaggart lecture Wednesday.
Delivering this year’s annual Edinburgh TV Festival address as she takes a “deep breath” following her recent BBC exit, the former Newsnight presenter, globally recognized as the journalist behind the notorious Prince Andrew interview, said “one set of rules had been replaced with another” when Trump won the U.S. presidency in 2016.
She used a string of examples from the past five years, including the infamous Robert De Niro rant against Trump, to explain the way in which the media has allowed populists to dominate. It was part of her thoughtful speech entitled “Boiling Frog: Why We Have To Stop Normalising The Absurd.”

Veep and The Thick of It creator Armando Iannucci is still angry. In fact, he told delegates here at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday that he is “angrier than ever” at the direction of the UK’s politics and broadcasting, seven years after his blistering MacTaggart lecture urged the BBC to fight back against its critics and railed against a sale of Channel 4 — both topics now back on the agenda.
Iannucci was one of many creatives to vocally criticize the British Conservative government over its plans to sell network Channel 4 into private hands. As he did on Twitter last year, Iannucci pointed to the fact that well over 95 of submissions to the government’s own consultation on the sale were against it but the government is pushing on, making things bleaker than when he addressed the festival in 2015.

True crime docuseries “Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?” asks — and promises to answer — why an educated socialite heiress would prey on other women. It seems thousands more people are wondering the same thing.
The three-part docuseries investigates how “socialite turned sex trafficker” Maxwell became entangled with convicted abuser Jeffrey Epstein for decades. The All3Media-produced series premieres Friday, June 24 at midnight on the Starz’s app and on-demand platforms. The first episode will air on the Starz channel Sunday, June 26 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt with the next two episodes following weekly.
“Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?” works backward to see why Maxwell was convicted on sex-trafficking charges in December 2021; she is awaiting sentencing on June 28.
“We have grown used to stories of men preying on young women,” executive producer Dorothy Byrne said in a press statement. “The story of Ghislaine Maxwell shocks and fascinates because she was a woman who preyed on young women.

Among those who will be present at the in-person event in Edinburgh are “Succession” patriarch Brian Cox, “Heartstopper” star Kit Connor and “Strictly Come Dancing’s” Rose Ayling-Ellis, who will give this year’s Alternative Mactaggart speech.
Actor Ayling-Ellis, who was “Strictly’s” first deaf contestant and is a British Sign Language (Bsl) campaigner, is set to discuss her experiences in the industry in what is sure to be a no-holds barred speech that follows on from last year’s Alternative Mactaggart lecture by “His Dark Materials” writer and disability campaigner Jack Thorne.
Cox will appear in conversation to discuss his career, his scene-stealing role as Logan Roy and his working-class Scottish roots while the cast and creative team from Netflix hit “Heartstopper” will also be on hand to discuss the coming-of-age romantic drama,...

British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell is incarcerated in a New York jail while facing charges of helping convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein groom young girls. She was arrested in July 2020 and has been denied bail twice as she is deemed a flight risk. She is facing trial for her role in the Epstein scandal, offered to surrender her U.K. and French citizenship recently in exchange for bail.
The documentary features interviews with Maxwell’s friends, former boyfriends, rivals and confidants, many of whom have never spoken publicly before and focuses on key stages in her life.

The Edinburgh TV Festival is the latest casualty of the coronavirus pandemic after organizers announced that the event will move online.
The Edinburgh TV Festival was due to take place on 26-28 August, but the physical conference will be “reimagined” as a digital event for the industry, with key sessions taking place online.
This includes the keynote MacTaggart Lecture, which was delivered last year by Channel 4’s former news and current affairs boss Dorothy Byrne, and the controller panels with Britain’s top broadcasting executives.
The aim is that the main sessions will take place over the same three days in August, but other events will also be staged in the months leading up to the festival.

Louisa Compton will be the new head of news and current affairs at U.K. broadcaster Channel 4, replacing Dorothy Byrne who stepped down from the role earlier this month.
Compton will be responsible for overseeing Channel 4’s news and current affairs programming as well as sport. Head of sport Pete Andrews will report to Compton.
Byrne will remain at Channel 4 for a year in the specially created role of editor at large.
Compton joined Channel 4 in 2018 as commissioning editor for news and current affairs. She has overseen “Dispatches” and was responsible for coverage of the 2019 U.K. general elections. In recent weeks she has been leading the current affairs department’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, commissioning several quick turnaround programs.
Prior to joining Channel 4, Compton was responsible for launching the BAFTA and Rts award-winning “Victoria Derbyshire” BBC TV program, and has had stints in radio.

Dorothy Byrne is to step down as head of news and current affairs at Channel 4, taking on a specially created role of editor-at-large for the U.K. broadcaster.
A hugely admired executive, Byrne’s decision comes less than a year since she delivered an acclaimed and much-talked about MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh Television Festival where she attacked TV industry sexism, lambasted politicians for lying, and stressed the role TV must play in preserving democracy.
Her department has also been responsible for documentaries including “Leaving Neverland,” the investigation into Michael Jackson, as well Oscar nominated Syrian war doc “For Sama.”
In her new role, which she will take on for a year from May 1, Byrne will work with C4 on a number of projects including developing a factual podcast strategy and helping to shape and implement a new sustainability strategy. She will also help mentor and develop staff across the organization.

Dorothy Byrne, a highly-regarded veteran of British television, is standing down as Channel 4’s head of news and current affairs and is taking on a new role as editor at large.
Byrne has been in the post for more than 15 years, overseeing ITN-produced Channel 4 News and current affairs documentaries such as For Sama, which won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar.
In her new role as editor at large, Byrne will spend the next 12 months helping develop Channel 4’s podcast strategy, as well as implementing a sustainability plan and mentoring staff. She will no longer be an active commissioner.

Channel 4’s Head of News and Current Affairs Dorothy Byrne is only the sixth women to give the well-respected MacTaggart lecture, the keynote address at the Edinburgh International TV Festival.
Previous speakers include Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner and Norman Lear.
Byrne addressed a range of issues during her speech including her take on the news and current affairs sector in the UK, the current state of British politics as it pertains to news and journalism as well as the need for diversity.
However, one of the main thrusts of her speech was sexual harassment.
She joked that she was not first choice for the lecture. “I was telephoned late on a Friday night a few weeks ago while dancing at the Hebridean Celtic Festival in Stornoway. So, I realized at once I was your first choice. But we old ladies – or even wee old ladies – are not proud. Decades...

Broadcasters can arrest their fall in ratings by making “really clever and difficult programs,” according to Dorothy Byrne, Channel 4’s head of news and current affairs, who delivered the keynote MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday night.
Speaking to an Edinburgh auditorium packed with many of the U.K.’s most senior executives, Byrne said that broadcasters who are “desperate for young audiences” should tap into the fact that millions of them are now politically aware and active, listening to podcasts and Ted Talks and reading books on serious subjects such as climate change and the viability of financial systems.
“We have to stop being afraid of serious analysis authored by big brainy people. We have the ability and we have the airtime. Let’s make some really clever and difficult programs.”
