X-Men comics have always been about the future. They are, after all, stories about mutants, the next stage in human evolution. The central tension dividing Professor Charles Xavier and his best friend Magneto is how to go into that future, either working with humanity or ruling them.
X-Men comics have also always been very, very confusing, with their frequent tales of clones, shape-changers, and alternate realities.
Given those two facts, it’s no wonder that X-Men creators would embrace time travel as a storytelling conceit, throwing Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants far into the future or launching them deep into the past. The results vary, but these fifteen tales represent the best, and sometimes most headache inducing, of the X-Men’s adventures across time.

The 1990 crossover Days of Future Present is only half an X-Men story, as Franklin Richards is the main character.

God I missed Jimmy Olsen.
We got our hands on an advance copy of Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #10, the first post-lockdown issue of Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber’s blazingly smart, brutally funny hit series. While there was no expectation that an issue that was probably mostly in the can before everything shut down would feel any different, it’s still comforting to slip back into this insanely silly world to find it exactly as it was left: there are a couple of bits in here that are the funniest things I’ve read in eight to ten weeks.
But for all the Kevins that need avenging, what really sets this book apart is the attention to detail by the team. There are so many little touches to the way the story is told that make this a superlative comic reading experience. The best non-gag touch of the entire...

These preview pages from American Carnage #4 shows that Hill & Fernandez's American Carnage feels like the best of mid-period Vertigo.
American Carnage is a revelation. Bryan Edward Hill, a rising star at DC who won praise for his work on The Wild Storm: Michael Cray and Detective Comics has a straight up throwback Vertigo book here with art partner Leandro Fernandez.
In my mind, there are two main periods of Vertigo comics. There's launch era Vertigo - British Invasion comics like Sandman, Invisibles, or Hellblazer - the weird urban fantasy from the British titans of comics like Gaiman, Ennis, Morrison, or Delano. And then there's mid-period Vertigo, when they moved away from the Swamp Things of the world and onto immersive crime slice of life stuff like 100 Bullets and Scalped. In many ways, American Carnage feels so much like 100 Bullets that I think Hill and Fernandez's comic gets...

Lime Pictures, the British production company behind Netflix’s teen drama Free Rein, is developing a Ya drama about a futuristic death row. The All3Media-owned indie has optioned Ben Oliver’s forthcoming book The Loop and will turn it into a returnable series.
The series follows Luka, who has been wrongfully imprisoned for 736 days inside The Loop, the futuristic equivalent of death row where young offenders await their execution. Inmates have the option of taking part in ‘delays’, medical and scientific experiments which push back the date of their execution. Luka’s day-to-day routine is mind-numbingly repetitive, but then things start to change: rumors of war are whispered in the courtyard and the government-issued rain stops falling. Soon, he realizes that breaking out of the Loop might be his only chance to save himself and everyone he loves.
The project will be developed by Louise Sutton, scripted content boss at the company,...

Once again, a look into the future, with some very interesting looks at the past, including the reprinting of a comic that was never released in America in the first place, the infamous Elseworlds 80 Page Giant that was pulped because of concerns about Superman’s babysitter.
