Cortney "Cort" Wilson is a California-based film and documentary director, writer, and Emmy-nominated producer. Hailing from a remote fisherman's town in Sonoma County, Cort's roots are a unique blend of a witchy Brooklyn mother (who's actually from Jersey) and a father who was a legendary commercial fisherman and a mechanical and musical genius.
Cort's producing career took off at Andrea Sperling and Joey Soloway's Topple Productions, contributing to the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning series Transparent and I Love Dick. This experience paved the way for their next role at NYLON Studios, where they produced and directed the millennial-focused news show NYLON News: This Just Happened... that no one saw in 2017. This project led to better reels, commercial directing gigs, and, eventually, the position of Director of Production at Girlgaze, Inc. in 2019, where they continued to push creative boundaries.
With 15 years of industry experience, Cort arrived in Los Angeles with zero connections and built a remarkable career from scratch. Recently, Cortney has focused on impactful documentary content, consulting on "Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me" for Apple TV and "Love, Lizzo" for HBO. Their notable work with MasterClass includes Creative Producing courses featuring Ringo Starr, Yo-Yo Ma, Joan Benoit-Samuelson, and more. They also produced Web3 content for WWE through Fox's Blockchain Creative Labs. Lately, they have been consulting and advising creatives on mastering the latest advancements in AI integration into our industry.
Cortney's current projects include a documentary on the government-backed Kelp Restoration Initiative on the Northern California coastline, a short film about voyeurism in the middle of nowhere, and a feature film that questions society's treatment of emotional people titled "Don't Cry."
