Is a long-standing “The Voice” curse about to be broken? If Gwen Stefani‘s R&b singer Rose Short ends up winning Season 17 during next week’s finale, she’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by Twitter. Since the Instant Save twist was first created in Season 6, no recipient has ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan came the closest in Season 14 by being the runner-up to winner Brynn Cartelli, but all of the other times — including last season with Andrew Sevener — the saved artist finished last in their respective finales.

In advance of the Top 8 performing on May 13, we polled viewers of “The Voice” to see who they want to win season 16. Their first choice in our best to work power rankings is Maelyn Jarmon, who has racked up an impressive 35% of the total tally as of this writing. She is being coached by rookie John Legend. Close behind with 31% is Gyth Rigdon, who is on Team Blake Shelton. A win by him would bring Blake that long-elusive seventh victory on the show. None of the other six artists still in the competition merit double digit support.
Of Blake’s four other finalists, the highest scoring is Dexter Roberts with 8%, followed closely by Kim Cherry with 7% and Carter Lloyd Horne at 5%. Also registering just 5% support is John’s other artist, Shawn Sounds, as well as reigning two-time champ Kelly Clarkson‘s lone act, Rod Stokes. Blake’s other artist, Andrew Sevener,...

The Top 8 artists for Season 16 of “The Voice” will compete in the Semifinals for America’s votes on Monday, May 13. On this week’s results show, three-time champion Adam Levine lost his two remaining artists, leaving his team without a potential finalist for the third straight season. Two-time reigning champion Kelly Clarkson has one artist still in the running, while newcomer John Legend has two and six-time champion Blake Shelton has a whopping five.
For Blake that means at least one of his artists will not make the Season 16 Finals, but it also means he could have all four finalist spots from his team (would be a series first). Which of his artists is most likely to get the chop? Will it be Kim Cherry, the rapper-singer from Florida who bested two Team Adam artists in last week’s Instant Save? Or can she knock off one of her own...

After the shocking Top 13 results were revealed on Tuesday’s episode of “The Voice,” only eight artists remain in contention to win season 16. Of the four coaches, Blake Shelton has five artists still in the running while the other veteran of the show, Adam Levine, was reduced to none and must sit on the sidelines for the rest of the season. Rookie coach John Legend still has two artists in the hunt. And reigning two-time champ Kelly Clarkson has only one artist left who could make it three wins in a row for her.

Team Blake Shelton entered the Top 13 of “The Voice” Season 16 with a whopping six artists, and amazingly all but one — Oliv Blu — advanced to the next round during Tuesday’s results show. Carter Lloyd Horne, Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts and Andrew Sevener all made it through based on America’s overnight vote, while Kim Cherry won the Twitter Instant Save. That means Blake’s team now makes up five of the final eight artists, a truly impressive feat for the most winningest coach in “The Voice” history.

Hey, "The Voice" fans. Tonight, May 7, 2019 was the big night where we found out who survived this week to move on to the top 8. That's right, guys. Five contestants were indeed eliminated tonight, and we're about to go over how it all went down because it wasn't so straight forward. Apparently, three singers had to participate in a sing-off and so on and so forth. You know how The Voice does it. They're always trying to keep things confusing. I mean fresh. Anyways, with that said, all the judges/coaches: Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend were, of course, on hand. To get things started, they revealed that Maelyn Jarmon was the most streamed artist out of last night's performances. After that, host Carson Daly got right down to business. He revealed that Maelyn Jarmon from Team John Legend and Dexter Roberts from Team Blake were safe...

As The Voice sped toward Season 16’s semifinals Tuesday, five — count ’em, five — more singers were given the chop. Based on Monday’s performances by the Top 13, historical indicators and TVLine’s poll that followed our recap, I figured the departing quintet would be: Team Blake’s Oliv Blu, whose vocals haven’t been on par with her styling; Team Adam’s Lb Crew, whose voice failed him when he reached for a high note; Team Blake’s Kim Cherry, whose enthusiastic rapping always seemed unlikely to strike a chord with The Voice’s country-leaning audience; Team Legend’s Celia Babini,...

American Idol Wednesday night featured guest mentor Jason Mraz helping the Top 5 singers master songs picked for them by viewers.
American Idol Recap
Alex Preston was first up, singing “Sweater Weather” by The Neighborhood. Preston was strong vocally, hitting all of his notes with a bit more power than usual. The judges weren’t bothered that Preston didn’t change up the song too much. They did, however, encourage him to focus on bringing more energy and range to his performances.

Attention "American Idol" singers Jessica Meuse and Sam Woolf: Be afraid, be very afraid. There should be no big surprises as to who goes home during Top 5 Week, as Jessica and Sam have the highest odds to be eliminated based on your votes in Gold Derby's predictions center. (Make your own predictions by clicking here.) -Break- 'American Idol' Top 5: Caleb Johnson predicted to be first rock winner in six years Jessica has been in America's bottom two for the past couple weeks in a row, just narrowly avoiding elimination as the likes of Dexter Roberts and C.J. Harris were sent home instead. Jessica's biggest problem is that she's not as memorable or showy as the main frontrunners and thus may get forgotten when it comes time for America to vote. As for Sam, the show's youngest crooner was already eliminated once back in Top 8 Week, and...

Following the elimination of his friend Dexter Roberts, it was then C.J. Harris' turn to be cut from season 13 of American Idol.
C.J. spoke with reporters, including BuddyTV, about meeting Dexter for the first time (and what it was like to compete against him), his son, being called out for pitch problems, landing in the Bottom 2 yet again, heading out on tour this summer and what he expects his debut album to sound like.

"I think The Marshall Tucker Band's 'Can't You See' worked really good for me and 'Gravity' by John Mayer. American Idol’s current season is now down to it’s top five contestants after Thursday night’s elimination show.
American Idol Results
The results show began with a look at the Idol hopeful’s sitting down to a home-cooked meal by Caleb Johnson’s mom to celebrate the musician's 23rd birthday. The light mood was short-lived in the auditorium, however, as soon it was time to get down to the business of the show – weeding out one more musician on the way to naming the winner of American Idol’s 13th season.
This week, Randy Jackson felt like birthday boy Johnson had nothing to worry about after his back-to-back amazing performances during the country and rock and roll themed night. Jackson also felt that Sam Woolf, who was nearly eliminated from the competition a couple of weeks ago but benefitted from a judges’ save, had shown considerable improvement and...

American Idol’s top six contestants had to pick one country and one rock anthem to perform for Wednesday’s live show.
Jena Irene
Jena Irene was the first Idol-hopeful to hit the stage, taking on Heart’s “Barracuda.” Once again, the young singer brought her charisma and her unique vocals and wowed both the audience and the judges. Her performance convinced the judges that she could be the one to beat this year.
For her country song, Irene chose former Idol winner Carrie Underwood’s “So Small.” Instead of sticking to the song’s country melody, Irene reimagined it with her sometimes-haunting sound that completely blew resident country judge Keith Urban away.
Sam Woolf
Sam Woolf selected Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time” for his rock song, which the judges agreed was a wise choice. Harry Connick Jr. believed Woolf’s performance, claiming he felt a “sense of commitment” from the young singer,...

We're down to six on "American Idol" and the singers are doing double-duty on Wednesday (April 23) night. Alex, Jena, Caleb, Cj, Jessica and Sam will each sing one song dubbed "Country" and another song deemed "Rock." Two quick thoughts: 1) Dexter Roberts picked the wrong week to go home. If ever a theme would have helped ease Dexter along in his "Idol" genre, this would have been it. 2) For all of the Judges' Save thing, this week's theme seems to doom Sam Woolf, doesn't it? I continue to suspect that Jena, Caleb and Alex are in their own voting class. And of the remaining three singers, who can pretty much go home in any order as far as I'm concerned, two of them can be comfortably classed in a country-rock niche and the other one is Sam Woolf. Either we're about to see some impressive theme cheating from Sam, or else he's doomed before he begins.

Dexter Roberts doesn't have any music-related regrets about his time on American Idol, but he is disappointed that he didn't have a chance to get revenge on fellow contestant Sam Woolf for pranking him earlier in the season.

As he exits "American Idol" after making it as far as the Top 7, Dexter Roberts has a mature, even a grateful, attitude about the journey he's taken as a music artist. "I've learned a lot from all of my vocal coaches," he tells Gold Derby. "I've learned to hold notes longer and when to break out and sing a certain part. I've really enjoyed all of the help that I've been given. -Break- Some of that help has been positive feedback like JLo's remark when he crooned "Keep Your Hands to Yourself": "You always come out here and sing kind of perfect." But those other judges could be tough on him. Still, he's cool with that. Stress is expected on elimination nights at American Idol, and this Thursday was no exception.
After judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. gave rave reviews to most of the Top 7 during Wednesday night's performance show, it was anyone's guess who would be sent home from the Fox reality singing competition this week.
The tension in the studio was palpable, as host Ryan Seacrest began to reveal which contestants had been voted into the Top 6.

The "American Idol" Top 7 results are in, and country crooner Dexter Roberts has now gone the way of Malaya Watson, Majesty Rose and M.K. Nobilette, i.e. kicked to the curb by America's votes. While the studio audience and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. seemed shocked by Dexter's elimination, Gold Derby's racetrack odds actually predicted that Dexter would be in the bottom two. The only difference: Instead of America's choice of Jessica Meuse sitting next to Dexter on the losers' stools, we assumed it would be C.J. Harris. -Break- To cast your votes for next week's Top 6 showdown, simply log into your predictions, click on the "American Idol" button and answer our weekly questions. Once again, it's like this: Assuming Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson and Alex "New Hampshire's Own" Preston are safe on Thursday (April 17) night's "American Idol," I don't much care who goes home or who's in the Bottom 3. There are the three people I care about and the cannon fodder. The big question: How is "American Idol" planning on killing the 30 minutes tonight? For the second straight week, Fox hasn't bothered to announce a guest performer, which either means that the producers decided they were happily able to fill the half-hour without a musical number, or they're having trouble booking guests. I have no evidence to confirm the latter. So... Who knows? On to the recap! 9:00 p.m. Et. Forget what I said about no guests, because... Kevin Bacon! Demi Lovato even stopped by to tout her tour and serve as a pseudo-mentor and judge.
Jena Irene (sporting new Lea Michele bangs) stole the night with her emotionally powerful rendition of "Creep" (chosen by Caleb Johnson so she could "turn it into a big, beautiful theatrical rock song"), which she did, earning a standing ovation from Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez (clad in a backless, DayGlo yellow leather dress).
