Father of
King Michael, in whose favor he abdicated. His first child, Mircea
Gregor Carol Lambrino (1920-2006), was born to him and his first wife
exactly one year after their marriage was annulled by royal decree as
the wedding took place in contravention of law. Mircea styled himself
HRH Prince Carol of Romania. In 2003, a Romanian court allowed him to
claim the surname Hohenzollern, and, thereby, cast doubt on Michael's
legitimacy. Mircea's son Paul continues to press his claim to the
now-defunct throne.
