A Houston woman convicted of fatally stabbing her boyfriend with a 5 ½-inch stiletto heel told jurors Thursday that she killed him to save her own life during a lengthy fight in which she was chased down, knocked into a wall and thrown over a couch. Ana Trujillo took the witness stand for the first time in the two-week trial as part of the penalty phase, which will decide her sentence. During about seven hours of rambling testimony, Trujillo said she had been repeatedly abused by men and sexual assaulted. The jury convicted Trujillo on Tuesday of murder in last June's killing of her boyfriend,...

Back in November of last year, I reviewed an Apex Publications anthology called Appalachian Undead. It was one of my favorite books of 2012, but thanks to a strange set of circumstances the project was shelved, leaving me as one of the few who actually got to read it. Fortunately, Apex has refused to let the project disappear altogether. Like any self-respecting zombie, that collection will live again – in a couple of different ways. The anthology itself will be resurrected more or less intact as a new release called Mountain Dead, and I hope to have a look at it when it’s ready to go. In the meantime, Elizabeth Massie has transformed her Appalachian Undead short story “When Granny Comes Marchin’ Home Again” into a full-fledged novel called Desper Hollow. The DNA of Massie’s original story is mostly intact. There’s no widespread zombie apocalypse – the trouble is instead...

David Walliams has weighed in on Sir Bruce Forsyth and Simon Cowell's debate about youngsters appearing in talent shows. The 'Britain's Got Talent' judge defended his fellow panellist Simon - who clashed with the 85-year-old star in recent weeks after he criticised 'Bgt' for allowing young contestants to compete - by saying he would have been ''desperate'' to appear on the show if he was as talented as 14-year-old finalist Jack Carroll at his age. He wrote on Twitter: ''As for kids taking part on #Bgt if I'd had the talent of @fatjacko at 14 (or even now) I would...

Britain's Got Talent star Jack Carroll has cheekily stated that Simon Cowell and David Walliams have "got more potential as a couple" than a comedy double act.
The 14-year-old comedian, who suffers from cerebral palsy, joked about the relationship between the judges while chatting to Digital Spy following his successful audition on Saturday's (April 13) show.
DS later challenged Carroll to come up with a better 'knock knock' joke than fellow Bgt contestant Paul Stark, whose disastrous audition ended with him lashing out at the audience.
Carroll also spoke about what tips he would give Walliams after the judge admitted to being the inferior comedian, and jested that some of his upcoming material could make "Ofcom go mad".
DS also spoke to Britain's Got Talent star Alice Fredenham about her crowd-pleasing performance of 'My Funny Valentine' and her rejection from The Voice UK.
Britain's Got Talent continues on April 20 at 8pm on ITV.

Jimmy Carr is backing Jack Carroll to win 'Britain's Got Talent'. The teenage comic had judges - Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams - in fits of laughter with gags poking fun at his battle with cerebral palsy, and the 14-year-old stand-up has already won the support of fellow comedian Jimmy, who met him last year while working at the Pride of Britain Awards. He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: ''You wouldn't bet against him becoming a star. ''I met Jack thanks to the Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards and he's brilliant. He knows how to write a one-liner and...

Britain's Got Talent returned to screens this weekend and proved that despite a few unfortunate exceptions, the nation still has a lot of talent to offer.
From comedian Jack Carroll to the tear-reducing shadow dance act Attraction, there was most certainly variety on the show's premiere.
Jack Carroll, a 14-year-old comedian, impressed the judges with his self-deprecating jokes. Carroll suffers from cerebral palsy but used his condition as a source of humour. Asked why he does this, he said: "In comedy, a lot of times, your weaknesses are your strengths."
He got off to a brilliant start by telling the judges he was a "professional gymnast" when Cowell asked him to tell everyone a little more about him.
After his performance, David Walliams told him he was a "comedy genius".
He continued: "I wasn't as funny as you at 14, I'm not even as funny now as you are now at 14 years old.

Once again, Britain's Got Talent proved to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, offering up plenty of moments in its series seven launch show where you could either cringe or cry.
Digital Spy has selected our five favourite acts from tonight, as well as the five that got us phoning our local loony bin the quickest. Now it's up to you to tell us who gave the best and worst performance of the Bgt premiere in our exclusive poll.
The Best:
Alice Fredenham
So unsure of her abilities that she kept her voice of "liquid gold" hidden from everyone, Alice Fredenham gave a show-stopping performance of 'My Funny Valentine' and, according to Simon Cowell, is destined for greatness.
Attraction
These Hungarian shadow dancers reduced Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and us to tears with their epic true story of lovers torn apart by war. Not even the presence of Emeli Sandé could put us off.

The Voice UK and Britain's Got Talent went head-to-head in a ratings war earlier this evening (April 13).
Which did you think was best? Has The Voice really upped its game this year, or did the return of Got Talent highlight its flaws? Was it a good call to bring David Walliams and Alesha Dixon back for their second series on the ITV show?
It is the second year that the BBC and ITV talent shows have gone up against one another in the schedules. Earlier this week, the BBC announced that they will be moving The Voice UK to a later time slot to avoid a clash with Simon Cowell's show.
The BBC series is now in its third week, with Britain's Got Talent launching its seventh series tonight with the return of last year's panel.
Tonight's episodes saw a host of acts make it through to the next stage of both competitions.

A young comedian impresses the judges in the first round of Britain's Got Talent auditions tonight (April 13).
Jack Carroll, who was born with cerebral palsy, wows the panel with his self-deprecating humour.
The 14-year-old, who relies on a walking frame to get around, has the panel laughing from the start with his sharp wit.
When Simon Cowell asks the young comic to tell the audience about his act, he quips: "I'm a professional gymnast."
Following his audition, David Walliams describes the teen as "a comedy genius".
"Jack... I wasn't as funny as you at 14 [and] I'm not even as funny now," said the former Little Britain star.
"It was incredible. Every joke was a winner."
"The thing that's great is that nobody feels sorry for you," agrees Amanda Holden. "You're self-deprecating, you're hilarious and I think you've got a huge future".
Cowell adds: "I've got to tell you Jack, you've got...
