Shawn Mendes is back on the stage after over a year.
On Saturday, he surprised many fans at Ed Sheeran’s concert in Toronto as the “U.N.I.” singer called the Canadian musician onstage. They then performed an acoustic version of Mendes’ song “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.”
Last year, the 24-year-old canceled his Wonder World Tour to focus on his mental health and said that considering he began his touring days at age 15, “it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family.”
“I feel a bit speechless about it, to be honest right now,” Mendes said on stage as he and Sheeran talked about their performance.
As the two singers discussed the fans’ reactions to the concert, Sheeran said, “I’ve had that three times in my life at gigs.”
He then listed the three gigs, “Paolo Nutini in Glasgow, Stormzy...

Ed Sheeran has released “Boat”, a new single described as a metaphor for depression.
The release follows “Eyes Closed”, the singer’s 14th chart-topping single in the UK.
Composed by the English seaside in the depths of winter, “Boat” is the opening song on the singer’s forthcoming album, Subtract.
An accompanying video, directed by Mia Barnes, shows the 32-year-old being engulfed by waves, echoing the singer’s comments on Instagram last month.
In a post announcing the album, Sheeran explained that Subtract reflects a period of turmoil. “I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety, I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up not but being able to break through for air.”
Sheeran recorded Subtract with Aaron Dessner in February last year, after experiencing various personal struggles.

“To sing is to pray twice,” said St Augustine. It’s a haunting line – perhaps celebrating the miracle of human hope over any expectation of divine attention– that Tracey Thorn quotes with aching resonance on Fuse, Everything But the Girl’s first album in 24 years. It’s an album that makes a church of its elegant electronica: all vaulting arcs of yearning melody and glimmers of stained glass that dance upwards, to the familiar urban spire of Thorn’s beautiful, hangdog voice.
“I’ve always been an atheist,” Thorn wrote in a column published in the third month of the pandemic. But, taking her daily walks around a London graveyard, she found her questions and her internal dialogue with her mother (who’d been dead for a decade) beginning to feel “a bit like prayers. How long, oh lord, how long?” Perhaps it’s strange to say, but Ebtg have...

Fans have praised Taylor Swift for how she handled a wardrobe malfunction on Thursday, during one of concerts.
On Thursday night, the singer performed at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, as part of her US Eras Tour. In a video taken at the concert, which was shared by a fan on TikTok, Swift could be seen wearing an all-purple outfit as she performed the song “Lavender Haze”, from her 2022 album, Midnights.
As she continued to walk on the stage, she had a minor wardrobe malfunction, as she noticed that her sparkly, purple garter had broken. However, she still continued to finish her song, before she walked over to her backup singers.
While she approached them, the tune of her next song, “Anti-Hero” started to play, and she began to sing. Once she reached her backup singers, she pointed out the broken garter to them, and they stepped in to help.

I think everybody’s just trying not to fall apart in some form,” says alt-soul singer Joesef with a nervous laugh. “It’s just who can hide it the best.” We’re sat on two ends of a giant sofa in his PR’s office in London, comparing stories on the qualms of “adulting”. The 27-year-old moved to the capital from Glasgow in 2021, but still romanticises the city in which he grew up. “There’s a certain level of togetherness that’s very palpable there,” he says in a thick Scottish accent, which is “worse” when he’s had a drink. “Everyone speaks to everyone”, says the singer. He can’t go to the shop without being stopped by five locals asking how his “ma” is. “I’m like, God, I’m just tryna’ get a loaf of bread!”

With the music industry picking up steam post-pandemic, there’s been a palpable energy shift in the new music we’re hearing from future stars. From sharp-tongued indie-pop to fast-paced drum and bass, this new wave of artists aren’t here to mess around.
Here are the 10 artists we think you should keep an eye on in 2023.
Bloody Civilian
Nigerian singer and producer Bloody Civilian is a born storyteller, drawing on her west African heritage along with influences such as Frank Ocean and Kid Cudi. Born Emoseh Khamofu, she released her debut single “How to Kill a Man” – a heady concoction of juddering rhythms and infectious hooks – last year. This was followed by “Wake Up”, a collaboration with fellow Nigerian artist Rema that appeared on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Don’t mess with her – she’s here to slay. Roisin O’Connor

Hamza Yassin had a slight wardrobe malfunction during the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final.
The semi-finals of the BBC One show took place on Sunday night (11 December), with the five remaining couples competing for a spot in the final.
Each of the couples will perform two dances for the judges.
For their first dance, Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystal performed the Charleston to “Pencil Full of Lead” by Paolo Nutini.
The pair did extremely well, earning high praise and a near perfect score of 39 out of 40 from the judges.
Viewers at home agreed, with many posting to Twitter to share their enthusiasm for the pair.
Many, however, also noticed a slight wardrobe malfunction for Yassin who was sporting a tartan kilt and a waistcoat for the dance.
“I didn’t need to see Hamza’s pants!” wrote one person. “I don’t think they thought this costume through!”

Not because the London singer is looking for someone to date, but because single people have started to cite a love of her music as a non-negotiable. “All I ask is that you: listen to Etta Marcus” reads one dating profile. “We’ll get along if: you like Etta Marcus” states another. But Marcus herself had no idea about this. “Are you serious?” she says, her blue eyes widening.
Despite only entering the industry two years ago, Marcus has gained a distinct “if you know, you know” cult-like fanbase, akin to that early Tumblr movement surrounding a young Lana Del Rey. Why? Well, she’s got the type of vocal that silences a bustling room, or that suddenly makes you aware that you’re swallowing. Her indigo tone slices the air like scissors through ribbon,...

Pulp are finally back. The band have announced the dates for their first UK and Ireland tour in 10 years, ending in a headline slot at Latitude festival next summer.
The Sheffield band will visit venues across London, Dublin and Glasgow, as well as performing two shows in their hometown.
Frontman Jarvis Cocker announced the news via Instagram this morning “five minutes before the rest of the world”.
“Three months ago, we asked, what exactly do you do for an encore?” frontman Cocker said in the announcement.
“Well… An encore happens when the crowd makes enough noise to bring the band back to the stage, so… We are playing in the UK & Ireland in 2023.
“Come along & make some noise,” he added.
As well as announcing their tour, the band have shared the news that they will headline Latitude 2023 alongside Paolo Nutini and George Ezra.

Over the past several months, I crisscrossed the world, following Harry Styles as he rolled out his impressive, game-changing third album, Harry’s House, and played explosive, sold-out shows for hundreds of thousands of fans from Coachella to New York to London. We finally sat down in Hamburg for a long conversation that spanned his career and personal life, and later caught up on the phone while he was in Italy.

A band as seasoned as Asleep at the Wheel hardly needs to put out new music these days. With a 48-year run that spans more than 20 albums, there’s plenty of material for Ray Benson and his crew to draw upon. But the Texas-based Western swing ensemble is back at it with a new LP, New Routes, and a youthful reimagining of an old-fashioned ode to getting high, “Jack I’m Mellow.”

We've already had one episode of Battles on The Voice UK and it got pretty dramatic, so who knows what could happen this weekend? There are still 12 pairs of acts waiting to step into the ring in an attempt to make it through to the Knockouts (or at least get stolen by another coach).
Read on to find out who you'll see battling this weekend - and what they'll be singing (complete with pictures of the battles themselves)...
Team Will
Stephen Cornwell vs Jake Shakeshaft
Song: 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' - Coldplay
Remind me who they are! Stephen won over Rita Ora with his muscles but Will snapped him up after his rendition of 5 Seconds of Summer's 'She Looks So Perfect'; Jake, on the other hand, impressed the coaches with his name and, more importantly, his Ed Sheeran cover.

The hottest night in the British music industry has come to a close! It was an incredible night at the 2015 Brit Awards with performances and memorable moments from Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Madonna, and many more.
The show aired live from the UK at London’s O2 arena and was hosted by TV personalities Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. Big winners of the night included Sam Smith, who took home awards for both British Breakthrough Act and Global Success. Ed Sheeran also won big at the ceremony, walking away with the Mastercard British Album and British Male Solo awards.
While the Brit Awards are the biggest night in music in the UK, there were a number of Us stars who provided the show’s standout moments. Madonna, who made her first Brits appearance since 1995, took a nasty tumble during her performance of “Living for Love” – Don’t worry, she’s okay!

Corin Hardy has signed on to direct the remake of The Crow.
The Hallow director has replaced F Javier Gutiérrez on the comic book film, reports Deadline.
Gutiérrez exited the project due to his commitment to the newest film in horror series The Ring.
Filmmaker Edgar Wright recommended Hardy to producer Edward R Pressman, who worked on the original 1994 and has returned for the reboot.
Hardy is best known for directing the animated short Butterfly, as well as music videos for acts including Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Paolo Nutini and The Prodigy.
James O'Barr's graphic novel was famously adapted into a film in 1994. Alex Proyas directed the movie, in which star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set.
It centres around a murdered man who comes back to life for revenge.
Luke Evans will star in The Crow, which is scheduled to shoot in spring 2015.

A new director has been named for The Crow reboot. Corin Hardy is now set to direct the film based off the 1989 graphic novel by James O’Barr. F. Javier Gutiérrez dropped out of the project to focus on directing The Ring 3.
The Crow will be Hardy's second film. His first film, The Hallow, will debut next year. He has managed to gain some attention off of his music video work, directing videos for artists such as Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Paolo Nutini and The Prodigy. Hardy also gained acclaim for directing an animated short called Butterfly. Probably the biggest thing to note is that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) is the one who recommended Hardy for the Crow job. That’s one big stamp of approval.

The rebooted version of 1994 comic book classic, The Crow, has found a new director. The previously-attached F. Javier Gutiérrez has bowed out, and relative newcomer Corin Hardy will take the reins on the gothic revenge actioner.
Per Deadline, Hardy’s name was suggested to Edward R. Pressman – who produced the original and is tackling the same role for the remake – by none other than Edgar Wright. A self-confessed fanboy, Wright was impressed by Hardy’s first short, Butterfly, and the edgy music videos he crafted for Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Paolo Nutini and The Prodigy, and recommended him for the gig. Hardy’s feature debut, The Hallow, traces the story of family who move to the rural confines of countryside and wind up fighting a load of creatures in the woods. It’s yet to be released, but will hopefully land a date for 2015.
