Twickenham film studios, used for productions as diverse as Roman Polanski's Repulsion, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, and the Beatles films, is to be saved from closure following a campaign backed by figures such as Steven Spielberg and Colin Firth.
Administrator Gerald Krasner said in February that the studios were to be closed, just one year ahead of the facility's centenary anniversary, due to ongoing financial travails. However, opposition from film industry figures and local residents to a plan to demolish the site in favour of housing appears to have prompted a change of heart. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hotel magnate/mattress salesman/former Presidential hopeful has begun the paperwork filing to create Trump Studio City in Miami-Dade County. Property tycoon-turned-reality TV star Donald Trump is planning to build a major TV and movie studio in Florida.
The news broke during a meeting of the Miami-Dade County Commission on Wednesday when local politician Joe Martinez announced plans for a business venture he called Trump Studio City, which would be built near Homestead Air Reserve Base.
Martinez, the County Commission Chairman, was joined by Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Commission voted unanimously to approve a feasibility study.
Reports suggest the new production site, if approved, will be twice the size of Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

Donald Trump has his eyes on building a new movie studio in Florida. At a meeting of the Miami-Dade County Commission on Wednesday, Mayoral candidate Joe Martinez reportedly surprised everyone by introducing the possibility of “Trump Studio City,” which would be built on county-owned land near the Homestead Air Reserve Base. Martinez, who is currently the County Commission Chairman, brought along Trump's lawyer, who touted thousands of new jobs.
