For those lucky enough to have experienced this, think back to how you first managed to get your dream job. The painstaking process of gathering enough relevant experience over the years, looking for open positions, and sending out résumés to whomever will take them -- not to mention all the rejections along the way -- can turn even the best and most optimistic of us into cynical grumps. Actors, for all the glitz and glamor we see from the outside looking in, oftentimes have to suffer through similar moments of heartbreak over and over again. Not all actors, however, are Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Is anyone really ready to get married, let alone commit?
Tayarisha Poe’s new film, “The Young Wife,” asks and answers the age-old question and more, with Kiersey Clemons starring as a young woman whose “non-wedding” to her elusive partner (Leon Bridges) brings out all the pressures of a traditional union. The chaos and expectations of family and friends heighten the not-quite-bride’s spiraling panic, and all seems poised to unravel just before the party meant to celebrate their love.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Judith Light, Kelly Marie Tran, Aya Cash, and Michaela Watkins co-star. Poe writes and directs her follow-up to 2019 Sundance debut “Selah and the Spades.”
“The Young Wife” premiered at SXSW 2023, where it was picked up by distributor Republic Pictures, a Paramount Pictures label. “I’m excited to share the work of our wonderful cast and crew,” Poe told IndieWire. “For me this is a story of color and chaos,...

Stephen Falk’s Fxx underrated comedy “You’re the Worst,” which ran from 2014 to 2019, is a rom-com at heart … and it’s also raunchy, mean, deeply strange, and even off-putting at times. It’s a show where the central couple, Gretchen Cutler and Jimmy Shive-Overly — Aya Cash and Chris Geere in roles they were seemingly born to play — first meet at a wedding where Jimmy just got kicked out and Gretchen is stealing a gift. Both of their characters are established in their very first interaction. Gretchen asks Jimmy for a cigarette, and he’s irritated because they’re “expensive.” The incredulous yet brazen way Cash looks at Geere in response is the blueprint for Gretchen and Jimmy’s dynamic going forward.

This article contains spoilers for Gen V season 1 and The Boys through season 3.
From the beginning of The Boys spinoff Gen V, Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn), the dean of Godolkin University, has appeared to be just another person whose morals have been bought by Vought. The secret experiments that she and Dr. Cardosa (Marco Pigossi) have been performing on young supes in the secret on-campus facility dubbed The Woods are cruel, but not any more so than what Stormfront (Aya Cash) and Lamplighter were doing to the supes held at the Vought facility Sage Grove in The Boys season 2.
Until episode 7, Dr. Cardosa even believed that the supe-targeting virus that he’s been working on was for Vought so that they could find a way to control supes and keep them in line. However, in the episode “Sick,” Shetty reveals to Cardosa that Vought has no idea about the deadly...

Fans of most TV/film adaptations tend to get upset whenever they see changes from the source material, but not fans of "The Boys." The original comic series, written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson, was so crass and shallow that it feels like a miracle the TV show's as good as it's been. Every change this adaptation's made has served to make its main characters far more compelling and sympathetic than Ennis ever managed. Homelander was a boring, one-note psychopath in the comics, but the show has turned him into one of the most fascinating TV villains of all time.
Introduced in season 2, new supe Stormfront (Aya Cash) followed the same path. In the comics, Stormfront appears only briefly, and doesn't have much to do or say beyond being evil and bad. The Stormfront in the show gets a whole season-long arc, one where her evil nature...

And Kimiko dreamt up a “brilliant” musical number set to the Gershwin hit “I Got Rhythm,” Fukuhara recalled.

A slow-motion panic attack in movie form, “The Young Wife” swirls around the hopes and doubts of a young woman (a radiant Kiersey Clemons) on the day of her “non-wedding.” It’s not a moment of matrimony, nor is it quite a commitment ceremony, but instead a day-long party, a celebration of the love between Celestina and her wishy-washy boyfriend River (Leon Bridges), who’s hours late. There are late bloomers and then there those who never bloom at all. Unfortunately for Lisa Steen’s feature debut “Late Bloomers,” The dramedy follows Louise (Karen Gillan), an aimless 28-year-old musician who breaks her hip while drunkenly stalking her ex. Through her injury, Louise befriends a group of elderly women at physical therapy and unwittingly becomes the caretaker to cranky Polish-speaking Antonina (Margaret Sophie Stein).
The parallels between Louise and Antonina are explained only in their shared shrugging off of polite social norms and blatant disregard for conventionality: namely, Louise is avoiding facing her ailing mother (Talia Balsam) who has Alzheimer’s and dodging calls from her scatter-brained father (Tim Nealon), while Antonina digs her heels in about moving into a retirement home. Nods to Antonina’s youth and her relationship with her own late daughter only sprout in the background of “Late Bloomers,” teasing what the film could have been.

In this era of so-called peak TV, television networks, cable channels, and streaming services continue to disgorge a head-spinning array of content on a seemingly daily basis. Watching all this content is simply a physical impossibility for one person. Given the sheer volume of television shows competing for viewers' attention, it's not surprising that a select few shows will inevitably rise to the top while others face the cruel axe of cancellation.
Yet this has always been the case since not every TV series deserves to become a hit. However, there have also been many shows that were high-quality but never quite managed to find the audiences that they should have.
This is particularly true when it comes to the situation comedy, which is a genre that dates back to the earliest days of television and has remained a staple with viewers. Some sitcoms, such as "Friends," "Seinfeld," and "The Office,...

Sex scenes can be awkward to shoot. It's a lot like mastering a dance: There's choreography to learn, and then the logistical challenge of marking and setting the scene pre-shoot. Then there's the filming process itself. Already, the actors are in a vulnerable position and cameras are there to capture every angle, getting close-up shots of faces, limbs, and whatever else feels necessary for the scene to induce that feeling of intimacy.
Depending on the specificity of what the director hopes to accomplish, actors may perform the same sequence repeatedly. The best example that comes to mind is the bloody sex scene in David Fincher's "Gone Girl." While shooting that jaw-dropping scene, Fincher meticulously filmed Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris doing the scene over and over right down to the throat slit until they had it down perfectly.
Repetition may be key, but it can be a lot...

Just starting its second season, Welcome to Flatch is the perfect example of a show fit for those after dinner-blues.
It's quick and witty and will make you heavily consider moving to Ohio in search of a life outside the city.
Fox's somewhat new mockumentary isn't anything tv hasn't seen before, but its storytelling and compelling cast create a show perfect for the casual viewer to tune in every week and enjoy.
The show follows several characters, including two cousins, Kelly Mallet (Chelsea Holmes) and Lloyd Mallet (Shrub), played by Sam Straley, as they talk to a 'documentary crew' about their daily lives and try to become internet famous.
The two are described as childish and immature for their age, proving several times throughout the series that just because a town may seem like it doesn't have a lot going on, they're always wreaking havoc on something.

Perhaps the biggest development in season 3 of "The Boys" is that Vought's beloved group of superheroes, The Seven, lost a couple members. Supersonic is dead, as is Black Noir. Starlight (Erin Moriarty) has left the group forever, and Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) is no longer even a supe. That leaves only three members left: Homelander (Antony Starr), the Deep (Chase Crawford), and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). If you're someone who'd actually like to be rescued from a dangerous situation, this is not exactly an inspiring line-up.
So naturally, season 4 will see the addition of a few new members of the Seven, which means we're about to be introduced to some brand new supes. So far, we've gotten a glimpse of two of them: Sister Sage and Firecracker. But who are these two supes? What are their powers? What can we expect from them as we head into the new season?...

The Vought International roster keeps expanding the realm of “The Boys.”
A first look at Season 4 introduces two new supes, Firecracker (Valorie Curry) and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). While the details of their roles are still kept under wraps, their patriotic costumes give some slight hints as to their superpowers, thanks to costume designer Laura Jean Shannon. The Sister Sage moniker has already caused fans to speculate the character has a connection to the Sage Grove Center psychiatric institute shown in Season 2.
Season 4 of the Prime Video series is currently in production. Heyward previously starred in “Orange Is the New Black,” and leads the AppleTV+ series “Hello Tomorrow.” Curry stars in Peacock’s “The Lost Symbol” based on the Dan Brown novel.
In addition, Heyward and Curry, “Walking Dead” alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan is confirmed to be starring in a mystery role for Season 4. “The Boys” college spin-off “Gen V” is also in the works.
