A quick review of tonight's "The Newsroom" coming up just as soon as I Google "Alan Sepinwall hate"... I feel like I should just write several thousand words about all the unfortunate aspects of the scene where Maggie and Sloan confront the entitled, oblivious "Sex and the City" fanfic author, but Aaron Sorkin's ongoing issues with the internet are self-evident, so let's talk about some other notable developments in "The Genoa Tip": * The clip of Will working on 9/11 evoked the real story of Aaron Brown, whose very first day as a CNN anchor happened on that terrible day. But...

And here's another very La music video from British indie band Arctic Monkeys, who really should think about modifying that name (the Desert Monkeys?). The sun-drenched "Black Treacle" video comes from a filming session last year with ubiquitous West Coast indie video-makers Aaron Brown and Ben Chappell, of Focus Creeps (Brown and Chappell also directed the Monkeys in "Suck It And See"). "Black Treacle," the latest of Suck It And See's singles, releases digitally Jan. 21 with a new track by the band's most mysterious compadre, Richard Hawley.

Earlier today the British indie rock band Arctic Monkeys released a new music video for their song "Evil Twin", the B-Side track off their "Suck it and See" single. The video was directed by Focus Creeps (Aaron Brown & Ben Chappell) who also handled all of the previous Suck It and See music videos this past year, in addition to directing a number of music videos for indie rocking duo Girls.

The 49th annual Ann Arbor Film Festival is an epic celebration of experimental media that runs for six days on March 22-27. There’s so much great stuff screening this year, it makes one wonder what they’ll have left for their 50th anniversary next year!
A couple of the highlights include the highly anticipated feature-length documentary The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye by Marie Losier, which chronicles the pandrogynous love story between industrial music pioneer Genesis P-Orridge and his late wife. The film already made a big splash at the Berlinale earlier in the year and looks to be a major hit on the festival circuit this year.
Also not to be missed is a special retrospective of one of this year’s festival jury members, Vanessa Renwick, a longtime favorite on Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film. Renwick will screen 10 of her quirky and artistic documentary portraits,...

The teasing is over! This here is the real deal. The moment we wait all year for: The lineup for the powerful, the mighty Boston Underground Film Festival, which is set to run March 25 to April 1. Now in its 12th year, Buff shows no sign of slowing down or taking it easy. In fact, this might be their most demented and transgressive edition yet.
There are homages to Giallo horror, tributes to the grand grindhouse tradition of sleaze and exploitation, sex and violence galore — both separately and together — plus, a resurrected ’80s slasher classic that all combine into an epic celebration of everything that is vicious and twisted in this world. But, in a fun way, ya know.
Alas, I haven’t seen any of the feature films that are playing this year, so I can’t offer any special recommendations of those. Although, there are many (most) that I...

What’s worse for a big-time network newsman: Being stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time by accident or being stuck in such a place on orders from your network? Seven years ago, CNN anchor Aaron Brown took a public and professional beating when he continued to play in the Bob Hope Celebrity Golf Classic after the crash of the Columbia Space Shuttle. At the same time, other vacationing network anchors, including NBC’s Tom Brokaw, immediately returned to appear on-air from their news studios.
