Notebook belonging to Richard Sewell suggests country's close involvement with Us plot to rescue American hostages from Iran
It has caused anger in countries as far flung as Canada, Britain and Iran. Now Ben Affleck's Oscar-winning Argo must face up to a new challenge from diplomats in New Zealand who say they can prove that the Iran hostage crisis-set historical drama wrongly ignored their country's contribution to events shown in the film.
Chris Terrio's Oscar-winning screenplay for Argo depicts New Zealand's embassy as unwilling to help with an ambitious plan to fly six Us diplomats out of the country. The film implies that CIA fixer Tony Mendez, played by Affleck, is the main mover and shaker in a largely Us-planned scheme to rescue the six under the guise that they are Canadian film producers returning from a scouting trip for a Hollywood fantasy film.

Tehran-based film-maker says The General Staff will be appropriate response to Ben Affleck's 'ahistorical' thriller
Filmgoers troubled by factual inaccuracies in the hostage thriller Argo are advised to hold fire until The General Staff arrives to set the record straight. Conceived as a "response" to Ben Affleck's Oscar-nominated take on the 1979 hostage crisis, it promises a tale of cowardly Us diplomats who are treated with kindness and eventually delivered to safety by their Iranian hosts. Viewers should note that Iran's idea of a happy ending may well differ from Hollywood's.
According to Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency, The General Staff will be produced by the state-affiliated Arts Bureau and directed by the Tehran-based film-maker Ataollah Salmanian. "The film, which will be a big production, should be an appropriate response to the ahistoric film Argo," the director explained.

Sioux Falls, S.D. — Russell Means never shunned attention. Whether leading Native Americans in railing against broken federal treaties, appearing in a Hollywood blockbuster or advocating a sovereign American Indian nation within U.S. borders, the activist who helped lead the 1973 uprising at Wounded Knee reveled in the spotlight.
But it was only on his terms. Openly critical of mainstream media, the onetime leader of the American Indian Movement often refused interviews and verbally blasted journalists who showed up to cover his public appearances. Instead, he chose to speak to his fan base through YouTube videos and blog posts on his personal website.
When he did speak out publicly, he remained steadfast in his defense of Aim. He found himself dogged for decades by questions about the group's alleged involvement in the slaying of a tribe member and the several gun battles with federal officers during the 71-day occupation of Wounded Knee,...
