The supernatural horror Baghead, from director Alberto Corredor, will make its exclusive debut Friday, April 5, on Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers, and the supernatural.
Produced by Studiocanal and The Picture Company, Baghead is a full-length feature adaptation of Corredor’s indie short of the same name and will debut as part of Shudder’s Halfway to Halloween annual, monthlong horror-thon lineup. The film will also be available to stream on AMC+.
“Baghead is a tale of family secrets, the depths of grief, and the things best left undisturbed in the basement,” said Corredor. “I’m so excited to share this film with US audiences when it debuts on Shudder.”
Following the death of her estranged father (Peter Mullan), Iris (Freya Allan) learns she has inherited a run-down, centuries-old pub. She travels to Berlin to identify her father’s body and meet with The Solicitor (Ned Dennehy) to discuss the estate.

A big chunk of a screenwriter’s income often comes from assignments (which of course means their agent or manager’s income as well). Agents and managers use a grid to track open writing assignments at studios and production companies. And you could just go through those grids and position your clients for them.” Circle of Confusion’s Zach Cox said: “(It’s) more challenging in that the studios make less movies now than when I got into the business in the mid-2000s.” Thus, there are fewer open writing assignments. “The studios have decided to take bigger bets on bigger movies that they can make billions in return.” “They are certainly not developing as much as they were pre-writers strike,...

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Paramount has snapped up the rights to Meet Jimmy, a short horror film that its Dutch filmmakers David-Jan Bronsgeest and Tim Koomen will turn into a horror film. There was intense interest in the short. Paramount had an inside track given that Platinum Dunes has its deal there and is coming off the sleeper horror hit A Quiet Place. Meet Jimmy is a co-production between Platinum Dunes and The Picture Company.
Full details are being kept quiet, but the short revolves around a mysterious podcast that once listened to, has horrific consequences, much worse than the occasional ear bleeding and unpleasantness caused by listening to the podcast I do periodically with Peter Bart. Sources compare Meet Jimmy to The Ring and A Nightmare On Elm Street, with a zeitgeist hook. Good Fear and Paradigm shopped the short early this week, and Paramount and the producers...

Ah, the ’90s. Headlines of huge spec sales and bidding wars filled the trades. The spec screenplay replaced the Great American Novel as the pastime everyone and his uncle was working on. If you could write a halfway decent actioner or rom/com, you had a shot in Hollywood.
Not so much today. According to Gointothestory.com, there were 173 spec sales in 1995… and 62 in 2017. Ouch! But do those numbers tell the whole story? “There was a long period when financiers weren’t buying as much,” UTA agent Alex Rincon said. “In the last 18 months, they have perhaps looked at their development slates and realized there was not as much original development as they had hoped and got slightly more aggressive.”
Indeed, things are heating up. Spec sales are again making headlines — witness the recent sale of not one but two specs by Emilia Serrano to Sony. Verve partner David Boxerbaum is positively upbeat.

Exclusive: Voltage Pictures has committed to finance Home Invasion, a thriller developed by Silver Pictures’ low budget label Zinc entertainment. The plot is being kept under wraps, but the title offers clues aplenty. I’m told the story involves a family imprisoned in their own home by intruders who play a life-and-death game in which the mysterious rules become clear as the night unfolds. The script was written by neophyte Joseph Dembner and will be directed by first-timer Sean Carter. After hatching the concept with Silver Pictures’ Alex Heineman, Dembner wrote the screenplay on spec. Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Heineman will produce. After the Home Invasion script was turned in, those producers shot a test scene which Carter directed and then shopped it. Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Craig Flores sparked to it, and they also will be producers. Dembner is co-producer, and Silver’s Steve Richards will be exec producer with Michael Fiore.
