Now that season two of 13 Reasons Why is upon us, it's safe to say that it's taken over our lives. Thanks to the massive ensemble cast, we've been trying to figure out where we've seen all the actors before. Some stars, like Brandon Flynn (aka Justin Foley), are just breaking into the industry. Others, like Dylan Minnette (aka Clay Jensen), have been appearing in shows and movies for years.
The guy who plays Alex falls into the latter category; his name is Miles Heizer, and he's been acting since 2005, when he appeared on CSI: Miami. That's (probably) not why you know him, though. Heizer starred for six years on NBC's family drama Parenthood. He played Drew Holt, the shy son of Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham).

If you didn't immediately recognize him in season one, the blond dye job may have thrown you off!

A review of the "Parenthood" season finale — and some thoughts on season 5 as a whole — coming up just as soon as we talk about the big tomato in the room... When NBC announced last spring that "Parenthood" would get its first full-season order since season 2 (and only its second one ever), it seemed like a great thing. Finally, the show would have time to properly service all of the great characters in its stable, would be able to pace story arcs better, and just have more room to breathe for all the great glorious messiness that is life in and among the Braverman family. Instead, things felt even more imbalanced and weirdly paced than in the show's shorter seasons. Some major characters got virtually nothing to do (Crosby's arc for the season was about mold, I think), while we suddenly learned an awful lot about Drew Holt and the spell he casts over the ladies.

Stepping back into the spotlight on Parenthood this week was Miles Heizer as Drew Holt, Sarah’s son. You may have forgotten that Sarah had a son because there’s almost never any screen time given to the kid. But alas, the writers have heard our cries and have given life to a character who may as well have been killed off had they not. In “Step Right Up,’ Drew gained the courage that he needed (with the help of his grandfather, Zeek) to ask his crush, Amy out on a date. Something tells me he would have handled a wandering rat at home better than Amber and Sarah did in Amber’s new digs. Perhaps it is because Drew always had the courage and strength in him to ask Amy out, he just needed that extra encouragement. Whereas Amber had no intention to come in contact with the rat.
