Three hundred twenty-three feature films are eligible for the 2014 Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today.
To be eligible for 87th Academy Awards consideration, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days.
Under Academy rules, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.
Feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category. The Nine Network.s crime drama Fat Tony & Co. easily won its timeslot on Sunday night. The premiere of the Screentime-produced series starring Robert Mammone as the infamous criminal Tony Mokbel drew 1.379 million viewers in the five capital cities. Adding the regional audience of 443,263, the first episode had a national average of 1.834 million, peaking at 2.06 million.
The second episode was watched by 1.236 million in the capitals/1.6 million. The nine-part series features other original members of the Underbelly franchise including Vince Colosimo as Alphonse Gangitano, Gyton Grantley as Carl Williams, Les Hill as Jason Moran, Madeleine West as Danielle McGuire, Simon Westaway as Mick Gatto, Gerard Kennedy as Graham Kinniburgh, and Kevin Harrington as Lewis Moran The premiere of season four of Seven.s Downton Abbey pulled 1.125 million (down 206,000 on the launch of season three last year) in the capitals, 1.74 million nationally, and ABC.s Rake had 617,000.
