Liam Neeson isn’t done with the action game just yet. The star who found a second career in his twilight years as a man with particular sets of skills is getting the most out of his time while his body allows him. Neeson recently starred in the Netflix action film, The Ice Road, from the writer of Die Hard with a Vengeance and writer/director of Thomas Jane’s 2004 Marvel adaptation, The Punisher, Jonathan Hensleigh. The Ice Road saw Neeson and Laurence Fishburne trekking across a frozen highway in semi-trucks as the ice perpetually cracks below them. There are now reports that a sequel is on the way and heading to Amazon thanks to a huge deal made at this year’s Cannes market. According to Deadline, the “biggest deal thrashed out so far at this year’s Cannes market is nearing completion with Amazon Prime Video set to...

Exclusive: The biggest deal thrashed out so far at this year’s Cannes market is nearing completion with Amazon Prime Video set to pre-buy international rights — excluding Germany — to Liam Neeson action sequel Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky in a pact pegged around $17M.
Deal isn’t done but is heading that way, we understand from market sources. Germany has sold in a separate multi-million dollar pact to a different buyer.
The project will see the evergreen Neeson headed back to treacherous and frozen terrain, this time swapping out The Ice Road‘s harsh climbs of Northern Canada for the similarly inhospitable mountains of Nepal.
The Solution Entertainment Group is handling international sales. CAA Media Finance is repping U.S. rights. The Solution, CAA and Amazon all declined to comment.

Liam Neeson’s unexpected yet remarkably durable second act as a grizzled action star isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, and each one of his modest hits makes it that much easier to imagine the 69-year-old actor will be able to keep this up for many years to come. His secret? Efficiency. If Neeson broke into the world of mid-budget, low-rent beat-em-ups as a gangly brawler who was ready to go anywhere and fight anyone in order to rescue his daughter, his subsequent contributions to the genre were a lot more sedentary.
Movies like “Non-Stop” and “Run All Night” tried to hide that fact behind their titles — even “The Commuter” promised a greater degree of movement than it ultimately delivered — but Neeson’s more recent efforts have stopped trying to disguise that skewed ratio between intensity and exertion. In “Cold Pursuit,” he sparked a war that allowed him...

In his new movie The Ice Road, Liam Neeson plays Mike McCann, a trucker who is one of several drivers recruited to transport three large, heavy drills to a remote northern Canada mine in order to free miners trapped in a collapse. But to get there on time, McCann and the others must drive their 18-wheelers over the title routes — roadways literally made of ice that have frozen over the surface of vast lakes, with all the dangers that one could imagine possible just under their feet.
It’s a unique scenario that is especially suited to Neeson’s talents as a latter-era action hero, with the Irish actor bringing the same vulnerability and everyman sensibility to the role that makes all his action-movie roles relatable to audiences. The actor’s approach to his work also extends to embracing the realism of the film itself, which writer/director Jonathan Hensleigh...

Liam Neeson has a simple test he does to see if a script is working for him when he first reads it. “It’s a cup of tea test I do,” says the 69-year-old Irish actor. “If I get to page five and I think, oh, I must put the kettle on for a cup of tea, that’s not a good sign. But occasionally I’ll get a script, like The Ice Road, where I was able to finish it. It felt that good.”
The Ice Road is Neeson’s latest film, arriving this week on Netflix, and it continues his career’s somewhat improbable second act as an action hero. Neeson stars here as Mike McCann, a trucker who is one of several drivers recruited to transport three large, heavy drills to a remote northern Canada mine in order to free miners trapped in a collapse.
